CHAOS, FOG and a PARADE
A STARTING IC/OOC EVENT
ARRIVAL OF THE NEW PEOPLE / THE PARADE The fog has cleared and you find yourself standing in the downtown streets of an unfamiliar town. And you’re not alone. There are dozens of people lining the sidewalks on either side of Main Street, cheering. At first you think they’re excited that the fog has finally lifted, but then you realize that a parade is heading towards you.

But it’s not just any normal parade. This is an all out affair that appears to involve most of the town and its residents. If you’re familiar with Earth history there might even be a kind of nostalgic vibe to the event. The closer you look at the parade, however, the more peculiar it appears. The marching band majorettes, for example, are waving flags with an image of a mutated lobster on it. And the drum corp is dressed like lobsters, banging away at the snare with hands sticking out of their large claws.

There’s a float that rolls by afterwards featuring a teenage girl in a bright pink dress sitting atop a decorative throne. She waves to everyone on the side of the street. “Wow! The pig farm sure crowned a beauty for the pageant this year!” one of the locals says. Sure enough, around the throne are four large swine, devouring slop at the girl’s feet.

A bright blue Cadillac slowly drives after the float. The logo for Dolan’s Auto Shop is written on the side and a man with a wide smile honks toots on the horn which lets out an eerie jingle. After that a group of mimes dance around the crowd. One in front holds up a sign for The Tommyknocker Theatre Troupe.

And so on.

Everyone you try to talk to is friendly. The street vendors offer you free hotdogs and ice cream.

All of it is completely normal.

But then why does it make you feel so uneasy?

NOTES You know the drill! Get in the comments! (Insert Brennan Lee Mulligan gif here.)

If you don't know the drill, that's okay! IC/OOC events can be a little overwhelming when just starting out. I wrote an essay about it here if you want to know what's up.

SPECIAL THANKS Round of applause to our very own Marty McChaa for writing up this lovely event for us and finding the images.

The coding can be found at Tess's patreon if you want to have it on hand for your very own. ♥ We're Tess stans here.

"Almost everyone seems happy," Diana replied. "Or at least not ready to riot." She found herself not quite knowing what to do with her hands, and she grasped the hem of her jacket. "Perhaps we should try to find someone who can help us figure out where we are to start?"

Yes, Bail thought, those around them did appear to be in a good mood. That was something, at least. It did put him a little more at ease.

"I apologize," he said smoothly. "I should have introduced myself. Bail Organa," he said, not expecting to see any kind of recognition in her eyes but hoping for it anyway.

"Oh, where are my manners? Diana Bishop." Diana was just about to offer a hand for a handshake when they were approached by a stranger.

"Excuse me? I think you two dropped these." Phones were pressed into their hands, the stranger disappearing before she had a chance to reply in any kind of way. Frowning, Diana looked down to the phone in her hand, notifications lighting up the top of the screen. She saw a pop up about some kind of network and others seeming just as lost and confused and she looked back to Bail. "Well, it seems like we might not be the only ones lost here."

Bail murmured a greeting but they were interrupted by someone handing them a device that was unfamiliar to him. He turned it over in his hands and shook his head. It was smaller than a datapad but not as small as common comm devices. He blinked at the notifications on the screen. "I don't think I dropped this," he admitted, somewhat amused, to Miss Bishop. "Did you?"

"No, I'm pretty sure I didn't." Diana needed some tea. And probably something to eat. And some quiet to think things through, to figure out what had gone so wrong. "If we aren't the only ones, there has to be somewhere we can go, or someone who's been here who might have some more answers than we do. They can at least tell us where we are, and what year it is. And maybe point us toward something to eat. I don't know about you, but I could go for a meal."

"I could eat," Bail said simply, because the truth was - as his wife so fondly liked to point out now and again - he enjoyed eating these days a little too much. Maybe it was just stress eating, who's to say.

He fiddled with the device a bit until it pulled up what appeared to be a map. "Anything on here look promising?" he asked her, holding it out so they both could examine it.

Diana checked the phone again, finding the network and the messages posted. It took her a few minutes, but she found Natasha's post, and she held it out for Bail to read as well.

She looked to his map. "I think that dot is where we are," she added, pointing to a blue dot on his screen. She looked around them for any kind of street names, but didn't see any from where they were standing. But the parade had to be on one of these larger streets, right? "If we can find this park, we might be able to find this Natasha, if we're willing to put a little trust in someone else. Then we can go from there?"

He watched her handle the device swiftly. It wasn't too dissimilar from what he was used to, though he always did have a steep learning curve when it came to these kind of things. He leaned in to read what she held out for him, humming gently, then referred to the map he'd pulled up. "Considering we're both in the same situation, it can't hurt to trust each other and someone else." He turned the device around and looked at some of the signs nearby as well. "I believe we should go that way," he said, pointing behind them.

"No, I don't think it could," she agreed. Diana watched as he looked from the map to the signs. "That works for me." Straightening, she took another careful breath, checking around them once more. There really was no sign of Matthew here with her, but she knew that she couldn't break down over it yet.

Offering a small smile to Bail, she turned to start with him down the walk in the direction he motioned.

Bail appreciated having someone else that was in the same situation as him to work this out with. That was helpful, even if she had truly landed on top of him just minutes before. "Hopefully someone will have answers, perhaps even this Natasha person you've found on these devices."

"I hope you're right, Mr. Organa," Diana replied, offering a tentative smile. "I just hate to think of my husband stuck- well. I hope he made it home safely. I think he did. I don't know- we were traveling and got separated."

She couldn't think about it too much right now, not without panic starting to rise up in her chest. She could feel Corra stirring at her back and she silently willed her familiar to stay. "Natasha seems to know more than anyone I've seen so far, at least."

"It's Bail, please," he said. He'd rather not anyone be formal here, not want to get caught up in anything like that until he was sure he understood what was going on here. "And I hope your husband is safe as well," he told her, thinking of Breha and Leia, wondering where they were, if they had been pulled in here as well.

"Then that's who we should talk to."
