More volts in the system, drown out the symptoms

Who: Juno and Charlie
Where: The hospital reconstruction site
When: Lunch time

Sometimes, odd as it sounded, the relentless burn of overworked muscles felt good to Juno. It worked towards pushing everything else down, drown out the bullshit going through her mind pretty much at all times. Beads of sweat had been running down her spine for hours, the smallest strands of hair glued to her forehead and that smell she had always equated to some kind of moist ground dust had started to emanate from her body. She was going to need a long ass shower tonight.

But it felt good, it felt so good that it was almost like what she imagined a drug-induced trance to feel like. The prospect - dream, really - of landing this job for good along with Hush and becoming roommates out of the slums until the other shoe dropped had really only worked for a limited amount of time. After the high of wonder and fertile imagination had wore off - some time the day after they had gotten the idea - real life had come back to her in full force. And so had realism. The odds had always been stacked against them slum kids, against her even more so. To say things were unlikely to go exactly as they seemed to wish them to (and she still couldn't believe, after everything, that Hush did) was an understatement. Not for the first time this month, maybe week, Juno had had to pull herself back down to earth. Drag herself, more like. Kicking and screaming, rude awakenings everywhere, but it was working. And today, she had managed to keep leveled by drowning it all out. No fluffy dreams, no harsh reality. Just the boulder in front of her.

Meet you halfway

Who: Juno and Hush
Where: Somewhere between the Industrial District and the Slums (and then the scrap yard)
When: At around 6:30pm

It was cold. Actually, it was freezing. At this hour, already dark out, the streets leading from the Industrial District to the slums were mostly deserted. Juno imagined that the people who tended to frequent these streets had tried their best to retire to their homes and keep as warm as possible - and she couldn't blame them. Even with her trusted red puffer jacket over her coveralls, a scarf, gloves and the closest thing to leg-warmers she could find, Juno found herself feeling extremely uncomfortable. Luckily, walking through the snow didn't constitute a problem to her with her powers, but the fact that one of her hands had been de-gloved in order to better message Hush as she made her way...that did. Then again, she had started it, and he seemed talkative, relatively speaking, so Juno wasn't going to shut him down now.

Especially right now, that he had said he would meet her halfway. Idiot. She thought that knowing him, he'd already gotten on his way as he sent that message, and judging by the next, Juno had been absolutely right. The badly-lit streets didn't offer much in terms of aid in recognizing anyone walking in her direction, but Juno's eyes remained searching ahead for any sign of him. He had just offered her a piggy back ride, which was hilarious and only slightly tempting given the circumstances, but still there was no sign of him. Juno fired off a quick reply before continuing on her way. "Doesn't even know which way I'm taking, dumbass, why didn't he stay put?" She muttered.
