Thursday, January 19th, 2215Weather: Light to moderate snow flurries in the afternoon and evening.
Events: There is steady activity at City Hall today, preparing for tomorrow night’s political debate between Councilman Kieran Sullivan and his challenger, Maxwell Wallace. There will be limited space for those wishing to attend and watch in person, but the event will be televised. There is, at this point, no additional news about the sixteen-year-old bandit child recently brought into Haven. It’s rumored that she was moved from the military base in the night, but it has not been revealed to where.
That isn’t to say it’s a slow news day. Oh, far from it. Starting at around 8 in the morning, something strange is happening to Haven’s upperclass. Some are experiencing dulled reaction and response times, or just plain groggy and out of sorts. Some are even feeling a bit euphoric! Until they realize their powers seem to have disappeared.
For a couple of hours those affected in the upper class are in a state of panic. The hospital is flooded with patients, and each and every one of them tests positive for methylepithanaline - the drug known, on the street, as Deadhead. The drug is used in hospitals for suppressing powers during some procedures and operations, and for a host of other reasons as a recreational drug. Once doctors and authorities know what’s caused the problem - and that their powers will come back when the drug wears off - they start looking into how they got the stuff in their system in the first place. The answer floors the authorities.
Late in the morning, it is discovered that the water supply was poisoned at no less than a dozen popular upperclass businesses - mainly coffee houses and restaurants, but the Dove Tail Club was targeted as well. Everyone that reported symptoms and lost powers either got their breakfast or morning coffee in one of these establishments.
In each place, near the water supply, a copy of the transcripts of Alexander Saito’s trial is found nailed to the wall.
This likely means that all of the rebels under Saito have not been caught. And who knows what they’ll do next.
