TIME UPDATE

Friday, January 13th, 2215

Weather: The snow hasn’t stopped, and in twenty-four hours there’s been an added three inches accumulation in snow. There’s expected to be another four by tomorrow.

Events: The weather is making things difficult for Haven. As many volunteers as possible are working at the hospital around the clock, still clearing rubble and recovering victims (and yes, in many cases, remains). The snow is slowing them down, however, and the roads are getting slick.

A series of announcements are made by the Council at 11 AM. The first is regarding the fate of Alexander Saito. He has been tried in a private trial, taking place most of last evening and going all through the night. He has been found guilty of multiple charges, including murder, terrorism, and conspiracy to commit treason. The Council has sentenced him to pay the ultimate punishment. Saito has been sentenced to death.

Now, it’s worth noting that criminals being sentenced to death in Haven is exceedingly rare. Years can pass without that happening, and the punishment is only reserved for the most severe of crimes. Even murderers and rapists tend to be sentenced to banishment. On the rare occasion that someone is sentenced to death, however, the preferred means of execution in Haven has always been lethal injection. This time, that’s not the case.

Speaking on behalf of the Council, Matilde Bailey reads a statement that is aired live on all radio stations, as well as television channels. Part of that statement includes:

"Capital punishment has never been Haven’s way. It is something we have always tried to avoid, if and when possible. In the event that it is deemed necessary, family members of any victims involved are always invited to bear witness to the deed. In the case of this unfathomable tragedy, the victims are endless. We are wounded as a whole. We mourn as a single being. In this respect, we do not rightly feel that any citizen of Haven can be denied the opportunity to witness justice, if that is what they will need for their own sense of closure. Tomorrow, Saturday, the 14th of January, Alexander Saito will face death by firing squad."

She goes on in that respect for some time, but you get the gist. Any adults who wish to attend and witness the event are welcomed, but it is heavily warned that yes, a man is in fact going to get shot to death, and that’s a pretty grisly thing to watch. Anyone under the age of eighteen will not be allowed. The execution will take place in a space made near the south walls, on the military grounds. About an hour later, a squad is privately designated to carry out the act.

That isn’t the only statement made by the Council, however. They also promise that the situation at the hospital is still their top priority, and that they will be announcing outlines of their long-term plans on Sunday afternoon.
