I'm not sure what sort of a culture so blatantly throws things into someone's face while they believe that they are down, but perhaps it is how they help people there and he needs to be told how unacceptable this new situation is in small wor...words that he can understand.
I am all for him protecting Tony, but mentioning him in a situation that's not got to do with him seems like a bid for doing just that and pettier than I believe he intends to be. Naturally, that is not magical and someone has to clear things up with him, eh no?
