Basically what you do with OpenID is that you type in the URL of your LJ and then it redirects to the journaling site, such as LiveJournal, and it asks you to grant the other journaling site, such as InsaneJournal, permission to log into your account.
I have not yet tested it, but I'm fairly sure InsaneJournal is an OpenID provider, just like LJ is. So, when you go to comment on an LJ entry, click the radio button that says OpenID, among the options at the top of the form, and, when it gives you a window, type or copy in your IJ journal url (http://www.catwoman692k.insanejournal.com/). I think you get a syndicated icon next to your IJ username, to identify you on the comment.
Er, not with a www at the start of it. *frowns at fingers* Just http://catwoman692k.etc, It may be set up to take the url even without the http://, but I'm really not sure.
I explain how to do it here:

Add your LJ friends and have them add you and you can read their locked entries too. LJ even lets you upload icons that express your disgust of their fascist policies--at least, that's what I did!
-memes this to figure out later-
So LJ peeps could still read my IJ from thier friends page? Can I do the reverse (even entries of thiers that are friends-only)?
I think they'd need to syndicate your journal (get the rss feed) to see your entries on their flists, but if they have username.insanejournal.com friended on LJ, you get to see their locked entries.

I think your friends would have to do the reverse openID process to see your locked entries.
Yes, it works on IJ too. I did a test run.
Wait--I'm not sure about the "friends page" thing. But they can set up RSS feeds very easily from the Firefox browser. Just click on the orange square at the right of the address bar and it gives you options.

To see my friends...

Okay, I added all my friends from LJ onto my IJ OpenID account. Maybe they will add me back and maybe they wont.

Any way to view my openID friends page on my IJ friends page?

Re: To see my friends...

I don't think so. I have been trying to add LJ friends to my IJ. Supposedly you can do this with a paid account (which I have).

The only solution I have reached is to create an LJ OpenID account here:

http://www.livejournal.com/openid/

Then you get to read your friends page. It looks like an LJ account except you can't post or join communities.

They seem to be on a kick of banning my OpenID every so often (ASSCLOWNS), but if you're not permabanned, you shouldn't have a problem.

Re: To see my friends...

Yeah. I was able to access my LJ OpenID account's friends page and view from there but Ill look into seeing if I can view them from my IJ friends list if I ever can afford a paid account here on IJ.

Also, my friends to see me

If they friend my openid on the LJ side, how can they see my entries on thier friends list as I post them? I tried with my LJ friend and he didnt see my entry pop up on his flist.

Re: Also, my friends to see me

Your LJ friends need to log in at the OpenID site then, in the same browser window, access IJ from their OpenID portal here:

http://www.insanejournal.com/openid/

It works the same as it does on LJ. Nothing pops up automatically on friends' lists, as far as I've been able to figure out.

Re: Also, my friends to see me

Hmm...Well that kind of sucks. Ill be sure t make a memo about that before I totally 86 my LJ account.
You also get a 'friends page' on lj while you're signed in on open ID.You can even edit your profile. Go figure.
