Omniture overhaul

Lj have just announced (in LJ_biz rather than LJ_news (seemingly so less people will know about it)) that they're going to use Omniture more vigorously now and actually collect data from your entries (hits to a page, where the visitors come from, where they exit to, what browser they're using) rather than from just the public pages. You can opt out from them collecting data by going to the admin console and putting in set opt_exclude_stats 1.

Thank you so much for the heads-up.
This is probably going to seem like a really idiotic question, but how does one FIND the admin console? Because I'm not having any luck, actually.
It's here. I had enough trouble finding it, I figure I can share with others.
Thanks!
No problem. :)
Thank you so much! I just set my LiveJournals to this and am glad I'm not an active poster there any more.
You're welcome. :) I've still got LJ-exclusive friends, so I still know my way around.
Many thanks for this. I was never the most active LJ-er so I had no idea what the console thing was or where to find it.

Now set to opt out. ^_^
Thank you very muchly. :D
Fun, now they're invading privacy even more! D: I swear I'm glad I opted out on that bullshit.
Thanks for the heads up!
Thanks. Also, to get comms out:

set for communityname opt_exclude_stats 1
Would you have to do that for every comm you were a member of, or could an admin do that for their comm?
The admin of the community does it, same as the other settings.
Makes sense.
Thank you for that. They didn't even mention it in the article. Going to go and opt all my fic comms out.
thank you for this.
Thanks for the headsup. Definitely opting out.
*dances*
thank you
*sporfle* at your icon.
that icon is quite spiffy. :D
Thanks for letting us know!
Thank you for this, I'm certainly using that opt-out option.
Thank you for that info!!
Thank you!
LJ - so full of fail.

Thanks for this.
thank you!
I actually have lj_biz on my flist and read this entry! How could they? I don't want to be stalked like that. :( Thanks for the opt out code! I'm so using it!
Thanks for the news.
I ran this past my partner who has expertise in this area. He said that it is almost certainly above board and designed to improve the site and that omniture are used by reputable companies, but that there was an issue in that Livejournal have not stated that they are storing the data anonymously. He explained that if there was a way to trace the data back to individuals then that would be a data security issue as "if someone got hold of those files, they'd know a lot about you". He thought it was, in general, a valid thing for LJ to be using but wondered if they were being careful enough in the way they are going about it. So the key question seems to be 'Are LJ storing this data anonymously?' because if so nothing to worry about, but if not then they should be, and users may be wise to opt out.

After talking to him I decided to opt out.
Considering they apparently have their main systems and back up in the same place so that a simple power cut can take the whole site down ... do you think they're storing it anonymously and safely?

Besides I suspect it's less about 'improving' the site and more about targeting their advertising in some way. The company they're using may be reputable but they just create the systems for collecting the data, it's LJ that chooses how to store it and what to use it for.
Thanks for the heads up, although it's probably only a matter of time before they find a way of doing that without telling us so we can't opt out of it.
Pre-Strikeout/Boldout/what-have-you, I probably would've just looked at this a little funny and moved on. Given that it's happening after everything that's happened over the past few months...eh. It's striking me as a rather not-so-great idea.
Since I'm this little Miss Paranoid, I have to ask this: does putting that command in affect my LJ-use in any way? Or just the way my LJ can be used?
