Further details on no_lj_ads

First sponsored communities, then sponsored themes, after that came sponsored mood themes so even paid users would see ads (which 6A denied by simply saying sponsored whatever wasn't ads...) and now we have sponsored v-gifts. I think they also tried to put ads on people's userpics page at one point, but users protested, so it was changed back.
And people wonder why I dislike 6A for reasons other than the fandom debacles.

Exactly! There was a time when I used to recommend LJ left and right, but after a while I realized I'd have to make a ridiculous amount of caveats and howtos -- when creating a new account make sure you don't forget to choose Basic, don't use the LJ main page, use the navigation bar to log in or out because login/logout.bml has ads too, beware of sponsored comms because they have web bugs, and holy shit does this ever end?!. D:

ahaha, I saw that. It made me think of one of the tens of thousands (probably hundreds of thousands) of comments on news posts, someone saying that with them deleteting and screening comments there soon we'll only be able to talk about how much we love 6A and how we'd like a coke, and someone replying that no, Diet Pepsi Max sponsors LJ, coke will get you banned. :P

Not surprised in the least. Allowing ads, oh excuse me, sponsers (yea like LJ is the NFL or Nascar... right) means big $$ for SA/LJ. Makes what their customers spend on them look like chump change.

So glad I gave my money to IJ!

No matter how LJ tries to spin it, it's advertising. Plain and simple. Pepsi paid good money for all that face time.

You can't refuse LJ gifts. Even from people you don't know. You can only delete them after you've received them.
