A Counterpoint to the Fanfic is Illegal Hysteria

Getting pissed off and yelling back at LJ and demanding accountability does not kill fandom and doesn't mean we're ruining the fun. It just means we respect ourselves enough to not want to be treated like trash.

That's a fantastic post, and hits on a lot of the points I've been trying to figure out a way to articulate.

In a way, as much as Fandom has been a powerful unifying force in this fight, that's also bitten us on the ass because a lot of people have forgotten that the threat has a much larger scope than just fandom, and the fight is not just about protecting fanfiction and fan art. This started because LJ was abusing its power, and making members into scapegoats.

Sure, they might do it again to Fandom; they've already demonstrated that doing so doesn't bother them. That doesn't mean we should lie down and take it. Or that we should forget that they'll do it to anyone else they think is a safe target, and that's anybody when it comes right down to it.
Short, sweet, to the point. I love it. I wonder if it's okay to link this on my personal IJ.

It's not just fandom. It's LJ and Six Apart not giving a flying crap about their customers and contradicting themselves by saying one thing and doing something else entirely.
Thank you for that link!
