gifts, another thought

YourLibrarian made me think. Dangerous thing, that is. I know it's early, but a "Holiday Wish List" site like LJ had last year would be nice. I'd love to see something year round.

Like if someone *really* wanted a paid account, and could not afford it, or only part of it, they could request on there. If folks wanted to donate a certificate or whatever, there would be links to the paid info at IJ. Plus, they could request fanfic, icons, pics, books, DVDs, avi's folks may have DLed...etc.

Would anyone think that would be a nice thing?

That would be kind of cool. And if they're requesting things like fanfic, icons, etc those of us at a loose end can always use it as inspiration. OK I don't *need* inspiration for fics I have enough of it but if I was bored I could click thru the list and see that someone wants icons and maybe make some.

I think there should also be a free gifts option, similar to the free gifts app on Facebook. Nothing big, just goofy images to send whenever.

OMG yes I want to see a Holiday Wishes comm here! It's about the only thing I'm going to miss from LJ that I wasn't sure would ever get picked up here.

I already have a stock of gifts.

Heh, don't worry the mods over there are very much in the loop about what's going on :)

If you have any ideas about how we might adapt to IJ from LJ, I'm starting to collect ideas here (and if you're inclined, spread the link -- I'm not sure how many people beyond my own flist might see it...)

I'm curious to know how the holiday_wishes mods over in LJ are adjusting their rules and such following feedback from last year, so that we can really mirror it here (if it's OK with the other mods for us to piggyback off their work like that).

It looks like holiday_wishes on LJ has five mods. I suspect IJ is going to grow fast... by next winter holiday, I'll bet such a comm here is going to need at least three or four mods to avoid burning them out.

Hmmmmmm.
