From Pictishqueen over on Greatest Journal:

This post at Valleywag may be of interest. Six Apart's problems seem to go far deeper than mishandling fans. Live Journal founder Brad Fitzpatrick may be about to jump ship because of their problems and they may be looking for a buyer for the company. Apparently it's not only their users they wont communicate with.

Perhaps the most telling bit of this story is this comment

Six Apart is in two separate businesses -- selling blog software and services to big companies, and managing social networks LiveJournal and Vox. The two don't mesh well, and it shows. CEO Barak Berkowitz's corporate-running-dog background has not prepared him at all for dealing with feisty online users, and his ineptness was on display in the recent fan-fiction censorship scandal.

I must admit that the words "transparency-loving company" made me laugh (in a rather joyless fashion). Many of the issues users had with 6A recently were about the lack of transparency.
I think "transparency-loving company" is meant to be ironic. According to various gossip blogs in Silicon Valley, 6A is famous for its crap-tastic ability to communicate with its customer base and inability to come clean about, well, anything.
I think "transparency-loving company" is meant to be ironic.

Oh. Well, then...

My irony-dar, it failed me.
Hm, I thought it was because LJ used to be very clear about policies and things, before 6A bought it.
That's pretty much the point that's being made, I think.
Imho, I think 6A only bought LiveJournal because they saw it as a cash cow.

At least they know the cow has sharp hooves. xD
Ironically, if they'd done their homework, they'd realize that such a cash-cow can be pretty high maintainence. They sure as hell haven't been taking care of it.
Of course not. They think that whatever they do, the users will agree with or at least learn to deal with, which is entirely not the case. They expectet the users to be in a lackadaisical stupor regarding their methods of running the business and they underestimated the vigor that fandom has when backed into a corner.
There's only one thing for me to say to this?

SixApart? PWNED
Oh my. The founder is bailing. I see this as A Bad Sign.
