Seven Devils

Halloween at the hospital is always interesting. Luckily I'm not in the Emergency Room, or in direct contact with patients. But it never fails, every year, that the newest aid finds themselves in the morgue on accident and gets scared out of their mind.

I've yet to discern whether or not they're truly lost or simply drawn to the basement subconsciously by other means.

Stay tuned for the security camera footage, though.

First day back on the job.

Got a 12-hour shift to look forward. Also working the graveyard one so I am in equal parts hopeful and worried that it's going to be a slow one.

Though knowing my luck I'm probably going to be stuck on clean up duty.

There's a vague chill in the air, with a shift of energy from that which brings life, over to death.

It's odd to be thinking of a natural balance following the events the other week. Speaking in a spiritual sense, one might argue the plunge into darkness was premature and far too powerful to offer any kind of natural benefit or order. But Fall is undoubtedly here to set the balance right, even if it's not quite as obvious in North Carolina.

I am currently being aggressively guilt-tripped by my dogs. It's my own fault, they saw me unloading ice cream from the groceries and started begging. After a straight hour of 'no' I went downstairs to get caught up on some work and Charon followed so he could throw himself onto the couch and has been huffing and whining ever since.

Normally, I love Fridays. They're great. They signal the approach of the weekend. But I'm a night nurse. Who got home at 8. And has not been able to sleep. And who also has to work tonight.

Ugh. Ugh why.

If this goes on much longer, the search for Adam Sycamore is going to turn into a recovery operation. It's such a tragedy when someone goes missing like this, and my thoughts are with the Sycamore family. I still have hope that Adam is found unscathed and unharmed.

Between you and me, I'd expect to we working late when Adam Sycamore is found. Hope for the best; prepare for the inevitable. And death, not mercy, comes for us all.

I'm sure that, at some point, I'll stop falling asleep at my desk and being awoken by the custodial staff three times a week. Given that it's Sunday and this happened today...I don't think it bodes well for the coming week.

Perhaps I should stop trying to replace my blood volume with coffee and go home.
