Cheep chip cheep.

Goku blinked. “Uh Hakkai…Jeep is making some weird noises.”

Hakkai chuckled and pet the white dragon. “Do not worry, Hakuryu is just dreaming.”

“Dreaming?”

“Of course,” Hakkai said with a smile.

“What does Jeep dream about?”

“I imagine, many things,” Hakkai answered, “he is rather fond of meat buns. Perhaps he is chasing them in his dreams.”

“Hey! I have that dream too!”

Gojyo, listening in with Sanzo, muttered, “Somehow I’m not surprised.”

Sanzo exhaled smoke from his cigarette. “I shudder to think what you dream about kappa.”

“Why shudder when I can show you?”

“You’re impossible.”

Sanzo's words rang in Goku’s mind and he sighed, tossing and turning on the bed. He growled and went to sit outside for some air. He stared up at the stars and wiped at his eyes.

“Goku.”

“You hate me,” Goku said.

Cigarette smoke puffed into the air before Sanzo sat beside him. “I don’t hate you. Things are just complicated.”

“Really?”

“I care about you more than you’ll ever realize,” Sanzo confessed.

I love you too, Goku thought with a smile.

Some of the most painful scars are the ones that we can't see.

Mine burn beneath the skin, scorching my soul, refusing to subside until they’re doused in tears.

They’re the hardest to heal and try as he might; Hakkai can’t make them go away.

I’ve tried to tell him, but he’s a stubborn bastard.

Guess I’m lucky that way.

I know one day I’ll have to face those wounds, reopen the scars so they can bleed freely and have another chance to heal.

I haven’t told Hakkai yet.

Though, I bet he’s already got some bandages at the ready.

He could smell the aroma coming from the small cabin and confirmed his suspicions about why precisely Hakkai had sent him away for the day.

There was no reason why Sanzo and Gojyo would willingly take him into town together.

It was all too easy giving them the slip.

The smell was so pungent that he could taste it and he almost drooled.

Meat buns took precious hours to make and no doubt Hakkai was sweating up a storm to properly get the dough to rise.

Goku bounded into the cabin and grinned to Hakkai – intent on getting first dibs.

He didn’t eat all the meat buns. He’s just stashing them for later.

“Hey Hakkai, can you keep a secret?”

He smiles, “sure, Sanzo.”

He nabbed some of Gojyo’s cigarettes. Make sure that he gets some more.

“Hey Hakkai, can you keep a secret?”

He smiles, “sure, Gojyo.”

Lips crush together in a desperate embrace. He needs him now more than ever.

Cheep. Cheep.

“Not you too,” Hakkai said, with a roll of his eyes to Hakuryu.

The keeper of secrets adds some more meat buns to Goku’s stash.

Memories are the ghosts in our minds.

 

They haunt our thoughts when we’re alone, in a darkened room, and trying our best not to acknowledge their presences. 

 

It’s when we stop to think, that the ghosts rise to the surface of our consciousness.

 

I see it in them all. 

 

Sanzo not wanting a cigarette, Gojyo not desiring to go out, Goku when he loses his appetite and myself when I decide not to drive anymore.

 

Distractions can only hold the specters at bay for so long.

 

Soon we’ll all face our darkest demons.

 

But, at least we’ll do it together.

There was something about it.

The feel of ripe flesh between his two fingers.

He gave the firm roundness a squeeze and smiled in delight at its resistance to his touch.

Oh yes, he was going to enjoy this more than any other.

He knelt before his prize and gave a soft caress before he began. His teeth nibbled into the flesh and the juices flowed from the corner of his lips. He lapped up the sweet nectar and moaned at the moistness that met his tongue.

This was his addiction.

He couldn’t help his love for his assistant’s plums.
