Quite the stiff competition, I see. Well, whoever does fill the head post, the office will have a strong leadership and I can only expect the rest of its members to be equally qualified and enthusiastic. Exciting days, to be sure, with every week bringing new and interesting developments to further clarify the future of Scottish Affairs.

Though good Merlin, am I really known for honesty? One wonders how, indeed, I've survived politically all this time.

[Gwen]
Did you know about Graham Urquhart's plan to run for the office? And do you know if it's serious?

[Bart]
Well, it seems you may have cause to mourn your retirement yet again. No rest for the wicked, I suppose -- and of course, you did set the precedent.

[Morven]
If the office goes to Wood and/or Quintin, this is my written permission to strike me down. We've got to ensure you move into Deputy Head somehow, after all, and I'm not sure I fancy a world in which letter-writing campaigns win you public office, either despite a lack of experience or despite opposition to the office existing.

Meanwhile, on the docket for the week:
- Banchory and the potential upheaval in the BIL. FF likely too young to put forward a commissioner, which means it would probably be left to Sterling. Want to brainstorm possible candidates and the likelihood of slipping one in there.
- Kavanaugh, considering this new development. Rowan and Eoghan. As you said, seemed surprised but not altogether displeased.
- However, heard rumours that Nesta Pritchard is displeased, which is a first. Need to find out why.
- Also would quite like to determine how to turn Hamish MacFarlan's bullheadedness to hurt or discredit the BIL. He's been popular up to now but this isn't helping his image, and that can help us.

THE CONTENDERS: SIX LIKELY CHOICES FOR THE SCOTTISH OFFICE )

[DOMGAS]

I have an appointment with Mr. Finch-Fletchley next week. Any contact with him or with anyone representing the Banchory bid is to be reported directly to my office.

[Desmond]

I was surprised that someone could make a credible bid, as Mr. FF did, and we had heard not a peep of it. Please discuss, including our plan to avoid further surprises.

BIQL IN A PICKLE )

Longest pro match I ever went to was a six hour Harpies match, back when I was still in school and staying with friends for the school holidays. Not sure how people manage when matches go 10+ hours. I mean, even cricket matches take breaks for tea and to go home for some sleep.

Also, since the Referendum, we've had a hell of a lot of people doing the rounds, visiting from outside Muggle Liaison. Wouldn't surprise me if people were doing research for the Scottish Office stuff.

Who: Bart Roberts and Sebastian Cavallero
What: Cav needs to talk and Bart has some questions
When: Sunday 4 February 2000, afternoon
Where: Bart's "office" in the Portree clubhouse

Now that was a surprise to Cav. Though maybe it shouldn't have been one. )

I'd like to congratulate Justin Finch-Fletchley on his elevated status as boy-wonder millionaire playboy. Happy belated birthday to you.

[Mel, Fraser, Ainsley (FAME?)]

I called a few mates of mine and the consensus seems to be stab the book with a basilisk tooth.
