(2018) Dying to know what's around the next bend

Jane was 99% sure her hand was going to uncramp and she wouldn't be stuck with it forever looking like she was holding a writing utensil. 99% sure. She had been furiously scribbling, convinced that some how, some way, she would get a vision of something that would give some relief to the people she cared about here. But no, stupid Jane and her stupid crappy visions got things like celebrity hookups and breakups, whatever the next unicorn food (whatever that meant) would be, Lotto numbers she'd eventually give to Luci. Lame, lame, lame.

Jane shed a lot of that baggage that came with being kidnapped by the government and used as an experiment for two years. She was sober, a sobriety she had fought tooth and nail for, and she was moving from looking skeletal to actually looking like she'd eaten something in the past week. There was color in her cheeks, she stopped waiting for people to tell her what to do and when, and she liked the people here. What she couldn't get rid of, however, was the idea that her worth was tied to what she could do. Jane should have seen this coming--or she should be able to see something, at least, something that would help people like Rafe and Marcela and Deacon.

So she sat and she saw and she wrote until her hand cramped up into a claw and only after prodding did Jane stand up and resolve to get something to eat. Forcing visions never helped and the more frustrated she got, the less they tended to come anyway, so Jane would take a break and go see Rafe. Likely there were plenty of people checking on him in Minx's absence but Jane would forever have a soft spot for her fellow Kickers. She made an extra sandwich, grabbed healthy things like a sprig of grapes, an apple, and a handful of baby carrots (yep, this looked like a kid's lunch in a lunchbox, whoops, sorry Rafe but Jane was no culinary expert) and pinged his device to alert him that she was coming.

If he had blown it out already, well, it would just be a surprise.

Jane knocked at the door, realized belatedly that Rafe wouldn't hear it and the vibrations probably wouldn't be enough to attract his attention so she pinged him again to say she was at the door and was coming in before actually doing it.

"Hi, honey!" Jane chirped with a wave to echo her words. She pointed to the plate, then to Rafe, and then did one of the few signs she knew for 'eat', her fingers to her mouth. "Hungry?" Jane's sign language was limited to the very basic thanks to guesses, the signs she'd seen Rafe use, a few quick internet searches, and the little he'd taught. She'd rely on her device for this one, mostly, but she wanted to try.

Rafe!
