Gratuitous Star Wars references before Kevin Smith made it cool While finding pictures for my post on the incredibly fucked-up love life of Scott Summers, I came across these scans that were not Scott-Summers-fucked-upness-centric. Enjoy.

Tigra/Hood rematch?
This is from Newsarama's coverage of Marvel's Dark Reign Panel at FX International.
Starting with issue #26, it will be the new Initiative under Norman Osborne, the Hood and the Taskmaster. Gage said he liked the fact that he got to pull out a lot of villains from big name guys, but at the same time, he got to search for obscure villains who weren’t in the handbooks – such as Johnny Guitar and Dr. Sax from the old Dazzler books. Gage said the fun part is writing the villains when they are put into a position where they have to act like heroes. What does a naturally selfish person do when they are put in a position where they have to save lives and risk their own lives in the process? I like exploring what happens to heroes and villains when the roles are switched. And for anyone who remembers when Tigra got a beating from the Hood, Christos said to pay attention, because now the shoe is on the other foot! “She’s coming out of the refrigerator, scratching, clawing, biting – been using my cat as research,” Christos joked, but McCann was quick to add that no cats were harmed in the making of Christos’ book.

This guy should team up with Sister Bertrille
Not all Christian-oriented comics are as pushy or narrow-minded as the Jack Chick tracts or those Spire Comics with the Archie characters. BROTHER JUNIPER started as a collection of cartoons in 1957, then ran as a daily strip from 1958 to 1989 (a decent enough span). He was the creation of Father Justin "Fred" McCarthy, also a Franciscan. The cartoon monk was inspired by tales about the historical Brother Juniper, a 13th Century associate of St Francis of Assisi. (As an aside, hagiography is full of amazing deeds and fabulous events, as much so as Golden Age science fiction.)I never found Brother Juniper's panel to be hilarious but it was often charming in a low-key, mild way. There was no preaching, no shows of drunks being redeemed or anything like that. BROTHER JUNIPER was laid back but sincere. And it is funny to think of a monk naively driving around with a pair of baby shoes hanging off his rear view mirror.

The History of Jason Todd (Part 5) -- Death & The Return
So... a death and a resurrection? Damn, I should have posted this on Easter!
Here are the links to the previous "History of Jason Todd" posts:
Part 4: http://asylums.insanejournal.com/scans_daily/183159.html Part 3: http://asylums.insanejournal.com/scans_daily/182791.html Part 2: http://asylums.insanejournal.com/scans_daily/178502.html Part 1: http://asylums.insanejournal.com/scans_daily/146730.html
And I know we all hate Jason right now for what's going on in Battle for the Cowl but... well, it's understandable that the kid has violence-against-family issues. As we see here...
