09:25 pm [jarodrussell] [Link]	Perfect Moment: Catwoman #70 I haven't read Catwoman since the 90's, when she had the purple costume and a rack that made Peej's look modest, but when the following page was posted to the old SD, this became my third favorite comic page ever (second favorite Batman page). I forget who scanned this, but my thanks to them for it. ( From Catwoman #70... ) I've kind of kept an eye out to see if this was posted earlier, but never saw it. If, however, I missed it and am double-posting, I apologize. 05:57 pm [bluefall] [Link]	The Many Faces of Barbara Minerva, part 6 (Versus Catwoman) And we're back; this time with an installment so ludicrous I can't even work up any real ire for it. I'm just left shaking my head in depressed bemusement, wondering how it all went so wrong. I mean, it's not that getting Cheetah a little cross-DCU exposure is a bad thing in principle, and even the basic formula of "catwoman + cat woman = double the feline fun" does seem sensible at first, cursory glance. Enough, even, that we've seen it not once, not twice, but three times with this incarnation of Cheetah at least - very impressive considering that a) Selina's not even remotely connected to Wondy, b) she's not even really exactly a hero and c) barring Injustice-type "everyone and their mother who was ever a bad guy is there" crossovers, her fights with Selina are the only times Cheetah's ever gotten coverage outside Diana's book. Ever. Of course, "cursory glance" is a pretty pathetic thing to hang a story on, and it all falls apart like a house of oversize novelty cards after the Batmobile crashes into them the second you take even a fractionally deeper look at the characters involved. But Pfeifer and Loebs never let continuity or consistent characterization stop them before, and dammit, they aren't about to now. ( I think I need someone to draw me a picture of Wolverine biting Sabertooth's lip like that. Call it a thought experiment. ) Next up, we find out why Cheetah's wearing stupid pants, with post-ICk JLA and v3 WONDER WOMAN. Yeah, I know. But hey, at least there's pretty Dodson art. The story is written by John Francis Moore, and the art is by Staz Johnson and Wayne Faucher. They do a good job copying/riffing/homaging David Mazzucchelli's style for YEAR ONE flashbacks. 11:35 am [bluefall] [Link]	Catwoman's Origin: Also Multiple Choice (but some choices are better than others) Recently, the issue of Catwoman's origin came up. Specifically, the post-Crisis Y1 retcon that she was a prostitute, inspired by "real man" Batman to dress up like a loony and follow in his footsteps, or something; the subsequent Zero Hour retcon to something much better; and the innumerable other retcons that ignored the Zero Hour retcon in favor of Miller's take, only more XTREEM, adding rape, underaged victimization, etc etc. And since everything is more clear with scans, I thought I'd post those two different takes, so everybody can see the contrast for themselves. After Harley started hanging with Holly Robinson, Selina's protege, some suggested that Holly would keep Harley on the straight and narrow path. I'll avoid any obvious jokes about the likelihood of Holly intending to keep any attractive woman straight, or Harley being at all straight with red haired women... Oops, too late... But any association with Holly means one will be associated with Selina. And Selina Kyle is... Well... Selina has confused the fandom for years, due to being the Love of Batman's Life. Since he loves her, and she does sometimes fight bad guys, she must be a superheroine, right? Actually, she's an irredeemable, unrepentant, and very naughty girl.
