A couple things that make me smile

It's the simple things in life that bring us joy, right Hal? Just like I can enjoy your strangely delighted and delightful pose, there.

This one is from BoP #104, scanned from my copy of the Dead of Winter trade, which is why it's a little blurry on the left edge.

Oh, Zinda. ♥ You tell her!

That is all!

I've been trying to find a Spy-Smasher worth posting. It's not going well.

You mean Katarina Armstrong or a different Spy Smasher?

Oh superdictionary. And here I was thinking the one with Aquaman and the Sailor was the gayest entry. ...Okay, so maybe Aquaman and the Sailor was the gayest entry, but this is just pretty.

Spysmasher I: Awesome kickbutt Nazi fighter.

Spysmasher II: Girl who has a hate/hate relationship with Oracle and thinks everyone is a spy and must thus blackmail superheroes into obeying her. Also have Mary Sue levels of clearance in government.

...Can we have the Nazi fighter back now?

That arc and the senator arc were both disappointingly loosely plotted, which is a shame because Katarina had some interesting potential as a nemesis. And the Checkmate connection never really played out either, past that one ultimately pointless coffee conversation with Babs and Sasha.

Spy Smasher 2.0's interactions confused me. On the one hand she was "Do what I say or I'll kill one of you to enfore discipline!" Then she's immediately flip-flop into "You can trust me! Let's all be friends! :D"

She was threatening Huntress and Barda. Huntress, who survived multiple gunshot wounds through the stomach. And Barda, who just pages before was digging bullets out of her skin with an arrow, and doing it very nonchalantly. She didn't even notice the bullets until Misfit pointed them out. How the fuck does Smasher plan to actually go through with her threat? 'Cause if you threaten someone, you had damn well better be able to carry it out. So I'm guessing she gave the threat, realized she couldn't do shit to them about it, then tried being nice. Not that it worked.

Seeing Babs beat the shit out of her was hella fun though.

Katarina Armstrong is quite a character. She knows when to ask for help, but doesn't quite grasp the concept of *asking* someone to help her instead of demanding/coercing/blackmailing. Unless she asked Babs and Co. first and *then* resorted to blackmail.

It's interesting, because in that regard she's the polar opposite to Babs. Babs has built up her team on trust, friendship, a good reputation within the cape community, or at the very least, offering decent paychecks.

Whereas Kat knew, given her past interactions with Barbara, knew she had no trust or goodwill or any strong sense of friendship, so her only option was to barge in and make demands, and use blackmail. I suppose she was either expecting or hoping that trust would follow eventually, but, as we know, our Birds are not so easily manipulated.

That's a strangely adorable pose Hal is in there. He's like 'Wheeeee!' I mean, yes, so in the comic it's scanned from he's stoned, but it's still funny.
Did Spy Smasher ever show up after 'BoP'? I ask because one of these days - when I, y'know, have actual money to spend - I will probably get around to buying a few of the BoP volumes, and I'd like to know if there's any further stuff that I should follow up on with. Because I like Spy Smasher. The name itself is irresistible.

Well, the BoP trades you want are BLOOD AND CIRCUITS and DEAD OF WINTER. I think someone mentioned her possibly being in CHECKMATE, but I'm not too sure.
