Title: Don't Wait Up

“Don’t wait up,” Gojyo said as he hit the night life. However, just as he was enjoying himself with several wrenches, the bars started to close.

“What bar closes at 2 A.M.?!” Grumbling, Gojyo headed back.

As Gojyo walked, he was surprise to spot Hakkai leaning against the bridge, looking out into stream.

“Oy, Hakkai, what are you doing up?”

“I couldn’t sleep, so I thought I’ll take a walk.”

Damn, thought Gojyo guiltily. He easily guessed that Hakkai was waiting for him.

“C’mon, I got some booze that we could share,” Gojyo said, slinging an arm around Hakkai’s shoulders.

Title: Defense Against Nightmares

Hakkai woke in a sweat, the last images of carnage fluttering across his vision. It took him a few moments not to see red.

He startled at the flare of light in the corner, relaxing at the scent of smoke.

“You all right,” Gojyo took a drag on his cigarette, the embers casting a red hue on his face.

Hakkai shivered.

Gojyo dropped the cigarette out the window, into the rain. “It’s just a nightmare, you know.”

“But, what if the nightmare was once real? What if it happens again?”

“I’ll kick its ass,” Gojyo said. “Now, get some sleep.”

Title: The Star of War
Characters: Homura, Zenon, Shien

The night was clear, even beautiful with all the stars shining brilliantly. Homura searched the sky for the red star, the blood star, his star, and found it glowing dimly, which troubled him. Everything he’d carefully plan these years would come into fruittation today. The war star should be outshining all – unless…

Homura stopped in his thought. “You two should be resting.”

“The same could be said about you,” said Shien as he and Zenon emerged from the shadows.

“Don’t tell me you’re worried about today’s battle,” snorted Zenon.

Homura gazed upon the war star again. “No, today we’ll prevail.” 

Title: Perchance to Dream
Characters: Sanzo, Hakkai, Gojyo, Goku
Rating: PG-13
Challenge: 2 a.m.
Team: Sanzo-ikkou

“Ne, Tempi, can I barrow this book,” cried Goku. They were gathered in Tenpou’s study, supposedly helping him clean.

“You can’t read,” pointed Kenren

Angry, Goku swung his chains, hitting Kenren, which caused him to howl in pain before chasing Goku around the study.

“I can’t finish these manuscripts with all this noise,” grumbled Konzen.

Tenpou only chuckled.

At precisely 2 A.M., three men, in three different rooms, sat straight up in bed.

“I would never grow a mullet,” vowed Hakkai.

“Damn, I look good in leather,” said Gojyo.

“Nothing’s changed in 500 years,” sighed Sanzo.

Goku remained obliviously asleep. 

Title: Caught
Characters: Sanzo, Hakkai, Gojyo, Goku

Author's Notes: I don't know what they were thinking, but really, it's not what you think. ;)

“You need to pull the skin gently back,” instructed Hakkai

Goku concentrated. “Like that?”

Hakkai looked and nodded. “Now, you need to rub this oil all over.” Goku complied. “Then place your hand here at the entrance.”

Goku wiggled his fingers through the entrance. “Eww, it’s wet.”

Suddenly there was noise outside the door, and both Sanzo and Gojyo burst in.

“WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TWO DOING?!” Gojyo shouted, voice cracking.

Goku blinked innocently. “Hakkai is showing me how to prepare hen.”

“IN TWO IN THE MORNING?!”

Sanzo pinched the bridge of his nose. “I’m going back to bed.” 

Title: Peeping Tom

Title: A Weary Battle
Characters: Sanzo-ikkou & Kou-tachi

Challenge: 2 a.m.
Team: Kou-tachi
Word Count: 100

“It’s been awhile,” said Hakkai, smiling. “We thought you’ve given up.”

Gojyo laughed. “It’s more like Kougaiji and co. doesn’t want to lose.”

“This isn’t a good time,” said Goku. “We haven’t eaten yet.”

“Enough!” shouted Kougaiji. “Surrender the sacred scroll, now!”

Sanzo looked bored. “Tch, you talk too much.”

The fight began and went well into the night until there were two left fighting. The rest watched wearily from their respected corners.

“Goku,” shouted Gojyo, “Give it a rest already! It’s 2 A.M.; time to go!”

“Lrin,” called Kougaiji. “It’s past your bedtime. We can fight again later today.” 

The Sanzo-ikkou certainly made an impression with their fairy-tales for 10 points last week.  The Homura-tachi wree too busy laughing at the Kou-tachi who were tring to fit themsleves into a fairy tale plot device.

Bars closing, lonely walks home, insomnia: 2 a.m. is a peculiar time, lacking the comforting normalcy of nearly any other hour. The mind runs free in the middle of the night, giving rise to thoughts better left unspoken.

Is Gojyo trying to get home after closing down all the local bar? Is Sanzo deep in meditation? Is Hakkai awake again?  Does Kougaiji sneak away to go flying with his dragon? Is Homura deep in the throes of another nightmare?
