LJ is nuts..but then you knew that...

This is over on my El-Jay journal, mostly because I don't want to confuse people who read me here.

Official Word from El-Jay that they will hold us responsible for every hyperlink we've ever linked.

Don't forget to use OpenID if you wish to comment on the post itself on El-Jay

ETA: Now with actual Screen Capture proof!

Hmmm... do any of the official LJ blogs ever link to offsite material? I wonder what would happen if we found links in some long-forgotten official post that now go to something nasty and reported it...

*wanders off with the happy [if impossible] thought of el-jay TOS'ing itself out of existence*
"I wonder what would happen if we found links in some long-forgotten official post that now go to something nasty and reported it..."

Wow, now that's an idea. *smirks*
Hmm... start with the first news post and click forward as necessary? I doubt we'll be so fortunate, but I'd love to find something.
I read your LJ entry and I really like it! It's amazing how you try to communicate with the Abuse Team.

Apparently the Abuse Team is so incompetent, it states rules without knowing whether these rules are realizable in the first place! *is annoyed*
Unbelievable. Thank you for pursuing this so diligently and sharing the results.
I said this in May when the first Strikethrough went down and I'll say it again... it would be a whole lot easier and less stressful for all if LJ/SA would just come out and say "We don't want fandom on our site, please leave."
Thank you for this post. And perhaps also archive the screencap in another photo-host-er ?
Already archived over on PhotoBucket, the very same place from which it's being served.

No way would I put that on LJ's awful photo hosting service.
Maybe also on either imageshack or tinypic, or webshot ... You know, just as a backup.

I'm just wondering how many of my friends could be affected because of linkings. It's not a comfortable feeling, I tell you.
That's just....oh dear.
Thanks so much for your patience and persistence.

I'm getting word of a locked post in innocence_jihad. Screencaps anyone?
Does this mean I can sue Google if illegal content comes up on one of their searches? Oh, wait, LiveJournal logic only works on LiveJournal...
I'm wondering--the more we question LJ--are we putting a rope around our necks so to speak, giving them more ammunition to do as they will. Not one time have they provided a decent answer, every single response seemed like a hedge to a real clarification of policies.

I feel we're at a losing end of a battle that can't be won. Fandom should pick up as a whole and go to a place that want us.

Thanks for trying to get answers. Although, I'm the least affected by their hyperbole, I'm part of fandom and I feel disgusted at what they are trying to do.
Yes, I'd heard that. It's clearly nutso. They're trying to cover their backs, but as a user of their service, that effectively means we can't hyperlink, ever, since outside websites may change. Way to run a social networking site!
