Fujimiya Ran closed his bedroom door, leaned against it, and took a moment to center.

Pulling off gloves he sat on the edge of the bed and flexed his hands. He reached inside his jacket and heard the comforting crinkle of paper.

He took out Aya-chan’s picture and stared at her smiling face.

Covered in a clear plastic sleeve, it was protected from the blood he spilled.

Though it was a reminder of the past, it was also an image of hope for the future. He wanted to see her smiling face once again and not just in a photograph.
