“Hey Omi,” Ken peeked into the office space and shook his head. Omi had fallen asleep at the computer.

Ken touched Omi’s shoulder. “Hey,” he whispered, “you’re going to kill your back if you keep sleeping like this.”

Omi stirred. “Ken?” He yawned. “What time is it?”

“2am,” Ken said.

“What are you doing up?”

“Couldn’t sleep, so I decided to check on you.”

“Thanks,” Omi said, “since I’m awake I’ll stay up with you until you fall asleep.”

“I’ve got some warm tea in the kitchen.”

The next morning Aya and Yohji found them both asleep at the table.

It's his favorite time of night. Deep REM sleep starts taking over when his telepath's exhausted shields have just about reached their limit. Wherever he is Schuldig gets a bit of relief. Sometimes it's apparent in a gradual easing of his sleep-scowl, the sensation of clarity on the job, or a slow building enthusiasm that moves him from the bar to the dance floor. Tonight Schuldig falls asleep on the sofa, long legs sprawled within reach of Farfarello, who shows remarkable restraint in merely poking a toe to watch the twitch reaction. It's definitely Crawford's favorite time of night.

Last week, Weiss needed the lip balm with 20 kissing points, while Schwarz only dabbled for 10 points. No one wanted to admit kissing Schreient for some reason...

Bars closing, lonely drives home, mission time, insomnia: 2 a.m. is a peculiar time, lacking the comforting normalcy of nearly any other hour. The mind runs free in the middle of the night, giving rise to thoughts better left unspoken.

Is Yohji trying to get home after closing down all the local bars (and a few out of town)? Is Aya keeping vigil at his sister's side with only his own thoughts to keep him company - or worse, Schuldig's thoughts? Are there Dark Beasts in the team's sights?

Or has Farfarello simply snuck off to watch the late movie?
