Real or fake, genuine or a prank, the fact that rumors and things like this even exist saddens me for what this world has become. The fact that we live in a world where this sort of thing is someone's idea of a joke, or worse, that people may potentially take that joke and turn it into something real actually terrifies me. It says so much about where we have come to, as a society. And it's not a good outlook for what may come in the future.

Well, I'm wrapping up the courses I was taking for brushing up on Friday. I doubt I've the time to get started teaching again for the fall semster, but I will be aiming for the spring.

In the meantime, I should find something else to occupy my time, I suppose.

My new rule is to never eat any homemade baked goods I didn't bake myself or I didn't watch being made. Or if they aren't from friends. I feel horrid.

Okay! A couple of announcements!

First, we will be having a Welcome to Lawrence class tonight for those of you who missed the original post where we considered it. 8pm at the Lawrence Youth Center. We'll discuss the basics of living in Lawrence including the simplest forms of demon protection, housing, ways to get jobs, and displaced friendly visits. It's easy and I typically bring cake.

Second! I have apparently been designated the Fourth of July party planner. So Friday afternoon at about 2pm, we will again converge on the Center and have an awesome party worthy of one Felicia Hardy. Fireworks at 9pm, lots of music, and some great food. Volunteers to help with grilling hamburgers, hot dogs, and brats will be rewarded with my eternal love and devotion. And the annual ceremonial dumping of the tea into the pool once I'm relatively sure most people are done swimming!

...WHO PUT THE ENGLISH GIRL IN CHARGE OF THESE FESTIVITIES?! We lost the war!

The seminar I'm teaching at the university got expanded from three days to five and while I'm excited for the opportunity I'm worried I won't be able to fill up five days worth of lessons. I'm even more nervous now than I was before. I know it might be a long shot, but would anyone be willing to help me figure out how to stretch what I already had planned to five three hour long lessons? Or at least let me work it out and offer advice as I fret. Or reassurance. I could use that as well.

I've made a decision about my personal life, but I have a question first. I don't miss Tom, not really, and I think I should take that as a sign I didn't love him as much as I thought. You come from a later point than I do. Did I marry him? Did I ever go through with it?

Everyone seems far too unhappy right now.

1. I found a new thing for my collection today.  I've called it a twiddledingle.  But, it's probably actually called something different.

2. I smiled at someone at the bus stop, and they didn't get confused and look away.  Also, I rode the bus by myself!  I'm totally getting the hang of this human thing.

3. I learnt how to use the coffee machine.  I THINK I LIKE COFFEEEEEEEE, IT'S AMAZINGGG!!!

I have a paper on Pride and Prejudice due tomorrow that I haven't even started. I forgot how terribly I always procrastinated assignments in uni.

I was discussing the idea of a safehouse for the children in the event it's needed, with Rose. Would anyone have objections to offering our home for that purpose should the need arise? I just know there are so many various protections here, I feel like it'd be one of the safest places for them to be in a crisis.

So Klaus issued a challenge and I refuse to back down. So in the most diplomatic way possible, we're going to settle this once and for all. Suggestions will be welcomed. Rudeness and cruelty will not.

Yes, we have many people here who could be considered dangerous. And yes, it's helpful to know we could defend ourselves if we needed to. But let's stop focusing on one particular group. And we can stop with the death as a means to an end talk as well. Self-defense is one thing, answering an emotional response with a death threat is another.

Now. Can we discuss ways to contain a threat to us all without people getting up in arms, or is the city who stood by each other and fought Lucifer himself unable to do that? We're better than this, Lawrence. Remind me of that.

I started my courses online a week ago tomorrow. I have to admit, doing it mostly on my own at home is very...interesting. I like it a lot, actually, it's very convenient. It's nice to see that, while there seem to be some newer perspectives on certain things, for the most part as I can tell so far...literature is still largely the same.
