Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:clark kent, kara zor-el, lois lane

Who: Lois Lane, Clark Kent, and Kara Zor-El.
What: Lois is pissed. She was told something then followed up with research. So, confrontations.
When: Wednesday Night (I guess)
Where: Clark's room.
Rating: TBD

Lois wasn't one to just take the words of some guy she'd never spent time around at face value, so when Fangs the Vampire said something about Clark and the Red-Blue Blur being one at the same she didn't exactly believe it at first. But she did think to actually look Clark up on Google, and that Smallville thing up on YouTube. And lo and behold, there was Clark, zipping around and having superpowers.

It wasn't the fact that he was, apparently, a meteor freak that pissed her off. It was the fact that he didn't trust her enough to tell her. He knew that she knew about Oliver being the Green Arrow, and he obviously knew she was fine about it. Plus, reporter or not, she didn't go around outing him.

Just a few seconds after she got the text from Clark telling her that Kara was also there she was outside his room, her fist pounding on his door.

The second Lois had asked her if she knew Clarks secret all along was when Kara had gone right to her cousins room. What Lois was probably thinking was meteor freak, because that made the most sense. She had a pretty good guess that Clark would be more than a little worried. And sure enough, she'd spent the past few minutes trying to figure things out and calm him down. This was his secret to tell, but it affected her too. He wasn't the only Kryptonian walking around the city. She wasn't that worried. But she also knew Lois had feelings for Clark, and she was pretty sure Clark had them for her. Not that she was going to bring this up. But because of that, this couldn't explode into disaster.

When Lois banged on the door, Kara glanced to Clark before walking at a human pace toward it, turning the lock and opening it slowly. At first it was just her looking out the crack of the door to Lois.

Yeah, she looked pissed.

Silently, she stepped back, giving room Lois to push open the door and enter. Though while she did that she would be positioning herself beside Clark. She considered Lois to be one of her best friends, but she'd do just about anything to keep Clark safe.

They were dealing with a serious, serious problem. For as long as he had been at home, keeping his secret had never been easy. Clark had to take certain precautions with next to everything that he did. From doing chores to lifting groceries to commonly walking through the streets. It didn't matter what he did, Clark was raised to be as careful with who he was as possible. The world could not learn about his secret. Nothing good would come of it if they ever found out who he - and Kara, as he glanced over at his cousin with a frown - were. That had always been his motto and he had stuck to it well. Then they got landed here. In this alternate universe, where google was familiar with the names of the small town people Clark was acquainted with, it was much harder to keep things quiet. Movies, TV shows, comic books. What was the point of having a secret as big as theirs was when entertainers seemed to thrive on it?

Standing uncomfortably, Clark looked down at the conversation between himself and Andrea on his phone. Lois was coming over, Andrea refused to lie, and that vampire wouldn't keep his mouth shut. What was going to happen? What would Lois do? What did she believe?

She couldn't find out. Clark didn't want her to know. It wasn't safe. And...they weren't exactly...normal. People usually had a problem with that sort of thing, didn't they?

Swallowing hard, Clark glanced to the door when he heard the heavy thumps. He couldn't move and, honestly, was grateful when Kara chose to answer the door for him. As soon as Lois appeared, Clark took a few steps backward. Lois was a tiny woman, he was practically made of steel, and yet he still felt the need to cower just slightly behind his cousin. And so he did.

"Hi, Lois."

"Hey," Lois said simply as she pretty much slammed the door closed behind her. She then turned to face the two, eyes narrowing and arms crossing over her chest as she looked between them. Not wanting to lay into Kara, she settled her glare on Clark. After all, even though she and Kara were really good friends, especially since arriving in this crazy world with demons, she still didn't know her quite as well as she thought she knew Clark.

"So do you just not trust me?" Lois started. Supposed meteor freak or not, Clark probably had good reason to hide from her. Lois never cared if her opponent was bigger or stronger, no matter what the situation was, and this was no exception. Most of the time she tried to handle things head on. "Is that what it is?"

Kara glanced behind her, not moving as Clark almost seemed to be standing a little behind her. She got it, even if Lois couldn't actually hurt him, well, the woman could be extremely scary when she wanted to. Was Kara scared of her? Not even close. But she was still worried about this whole thing was going to end.

Her own arms hung at her sides, listening. Honestly she had half expected the shouting to begin right away. "Why don't you say when he's not trusting you with first?" she asked, blinking slightly. She already knew Clark trusted Lois. It was the danger that came with knowing his secret he didn't trust, as far as Kara knew. People got hurt, and Lois wouldn't be, and already wasn't any exception to that.

But Kara wanted to know just what it was that Lois had read, or seen on the computer. Maybe she had done some serious research, maybe she hadn't. She was going to assume that Lois knew nothing about herself, because all the attention was directed at Clark. Or maybe Lois just wanted to hear it from Clark, and it didn't really matter if they were both involved?

She did not look happy. Clark was actually afraid that Lois was going to start flinging objects across the room at him. He wasn't worried about the harm that would come as a result of her actions, but the apartment was his and he was the only one actually furnishing it. It was why standing behind Kara was a good plan. She wouldn't want to try and hurt Kara, right? Of course not.

"Yeah, do that. You should definitely do that." If she didn't know what he thought she did, then this could be handled a lot differently. Clark wasn't about to shout out denials when he wasn't even sure what it was that he wasn't trusting Lois over. Even if, weighing all the possible options and all, it was sort of obvious. That vampire had said one word too many.

"I do trust you," he hastily added, awkwardly looking to Kara for backup on the statement. Oh, who was he kidding? Kara was already doing enough for him by being there. What else did he want from her?

"I'm talking about a certain secret of yours that has a hell of a lot to do with the meteor rocks," Lois replied with a sigh. Really, she would have rather had this conversation, arguement, whatever it was with just Clark, but she could deal with Kara being there, too.

Thankfully, a certain scent hit her coffee radar and she turned to head towards the small kitchen area, mouth still running. "Oh, and there's the part about the running around saving people. Don't get me wrong, that's not the part that pissed me off. It's the fact that for some reason, you didn't feel like you could tell me." Voice raising towards the end of that, so they could hear her over the cabenet doors she was slamming in search of a mug. Finally she found one, then helped herself to Clark's coffee, as well as sugar and milk from the fridge. "You know I didn't freak out or go spouting off about the other hero type I know."

When Lois turned to raid Clark's kitchen, Kara turned to look at Clark, eyebrows raising. The woman was on a rampage, and apparently Clark's coffee was going to get it. While she was going on, and making coffee, Kara shrugged slightly and mouthed 'what do you want to do?' to Clark, before answering Lois when she stopped.

"Clark isn't a meteor freak, Lois." she said flatly. Well, he wasn't. And if he was going to be busted for anything it wasn't going to be for something he wasn't. Then she kept her gaze on Clark, watching is reaction and facial expressions to figure out where he was going to go from there. She wasn't going to drop any bomb he wasn't going to be okay with. Her hand reached over to her other arm, fingers grasping around the silver cuff that never seemed to leave her body, thumb brushing over the small silver carving.

She dropped her voice a low, so only Clark could hear, because something told her if she asked a question off topic Lois might throw something at her head. "What other hero type?" how many hero type friends did Clark have? Was there a society of them now?

Catching the gesture from Kara, Clark lifted his shoulders and shrugged awkwardly. It was obvious, judging from the mortified look on his face, that he wanted to do nothing more than turn and retreat. Leave Lois to invade his apartment while he vanished into thin air. Really, it would only take a second. He could go hang out in Hong Kong for a while until he was sure that he was safe. Like that was far enough to avoid the wrath of one Lois Lane.

"Green Arrow," Clark muttered in response to Kara's question. He then took a tentative step forward, one hand sliding into the pocket of his jeans while the other rose up to grip at the back of his neck. He looked more than uncomfortable right now and Clark felt that he had every reason to be. "Lois, I..."

Am not going to deal with this? Am going to leave? Oh, he wished.

"What exactly do you think it is that you know?" He needed the exact clarification there. "Because I'm not a meteor freak," he repeated, already knowing that Kara had voiced the same response for him. It needed to be repeated anyway.

Lois looked back at them then, frowning a bit before taking a long drink of her newly procured coffee. Hopefully, that would calm her down, at least a little bit. But there were never any guarantees. Except, of course, that Lois was someone no one wanted to be around when she didn't have coffee. She still looked pissed, because she still was, but she looked just slightly hurt as well.

"And do you mean that?" she asked, sending a pointed look right at Clark, then scoffed a bit. "If you're not a meteor freak, then what are you, an alien or something?" Yeah, she knew aliens existed. Just like she knew that it wasn't always meteor freaks that had hero complexes. Or even villain complexes. There were other things, but they were just less common than the meteor freaks.

"And I want the truth. I'm sick of you hiding whatever it is from me."

In a response to Clark's look she rested her hand on his shoulder just for a moment, trying smile in an encouraging way. She already knew Lois could handle this. She'd said it a while ago and Kara was sticking to that.

Green Arrow. She'd never heard of him. Shrugging, she pushed that thought aside and moved on.

Kara blinked rapidly at Lois. ...an alien or something? She couldn't hide the amusement from her face as the mouth cracked into a slight grin that she hid with her hand. She had it bang on and probably didn't even realize it. She covered a giggle with clearing her throat, though there was still a smirk on her face she was trying to hide, because she knew neither of them would be happy with her grinning.

Glancing at Clark, she sighed. They were going to be here all day if she didn't say anything. He was great at dragging things out. 'Pretty much' was what she wanted to say. But again, in was Clarks call. Looking over to him she shrugged. "You can answer that question. Hopefully within the next minute or so, or I can take over for you." You could tell just by looking at her that she was much more relaxed. There was worry on her face, but her body was at ease.

Kara wasn't afraid or confused and no unease about who she was. She'd say it flatly to Lois if Clark wasn't going to be able to, though it would only be fair to give him a chance to say it first. "She's going to find out, one way or another. It would be best if she heard it from you." she added softly to her cousin.

Aliens? Oh God, she knew! Wide-eyed, Clark clasped his hands together nervously and shifted from one foot to the other. To the casual observer, he looked very much like a child who badly needed to evacuate to the bathroom. Kara wasn't helping either. It was not funny and her giggling on about it was only making Clark even more anxious. One really didn't need super senses to detect her amusement.

"No," Clark said abruptly, looking from Lois to Kara to Lois all over again, "you don't have to do anything." He drew in a deep breath, nostrils flaring slightly as he looked down at the carpeted floor. "This is my mess. I'll take care of it." Kara wasn't responsible for this. She was a part of it, surely, but she had not been the one lying to Lois for several years. At first, it had been easy. He didn't really know Lois. And she was annoying. As time progressed, Clark felt more and more awkward about it. She had slowly become a part of his life. Constantly there. Dependable. Still annoying, but at the same time...there was something about Lois Lane that fascinated Clark. There weren't many women out there in the world like her.

"Are you sure...?" Clark looked to Kara in uncertainty. This was her secret too. Did she really want to be exposed?

Well, she was the one who said that Lois was going to find out one way or another. And the taking over. Clearly, Kara didn't think that they were going to get out of here without being exposed. He shook his head and sighed. "Lois, I'm -" He tilted his head to the side and shrugged, hands sliding into the front pockets of his jeans. "We. Kara and I, we're not exactly...we're - well, yeah. That."

What? Aliens. He wasn't going to say it.

To say that Lois hadn't been expecting Clark to say she was right would be an understatement. She went quiet for a long moment, that in itself unusual for Lois Lane, and stared at him, eyes wide. Unsure of what to say, or even what to think at first, she put off a response by taking another long drink of coffee.

But she kinda wished it was Jack just then.

"So, I'm trying to figure out if I should take you seriously right now," she said, voice even and unusually calm. There was never any telling how odd news was going to affect her.

Eyes going between Clark and Kara, she bit gently at her lip. "So it's both of you?"

She looked over at Clark as he gave his 'explanation' and it took all her effort not to roll her eyes slightly. They were that. He was never going to let go of the fact that he just wasn't human, was he?

Kara looked back to Lois with a smile. "The story is I'm related to Clark legally through his adopted father." she explained. "But I'm not. We're biologically related. Our fathers were brothers." her smile turned into one that was less amused, a touch of sadness reaching her eyes.

"Our planet was twenty-three galaxies away from the Earth in our world. We're the last of or family. Clark was just baby when he arrived." she said, glancing at him with a slight smile. "But I was a teenager. You just didn't see me around because I was trapped under water, and he didn't know I existed to find me." she shrugged, it was a sore spot for her, not getting to Clark when she was supposed to, but she was moving on. Pretty much over it.

At least she wasn't completely freaking out yet. That was good, right?

They were coming clean. It was definitely new, to say the least. For as long as Clark could remember, when people discovered his secret it was usually by accident. The beginnings of this entire mess were, surely, but when it came down to it he and Kara could have lied and lied until they were blue in the face. Lois had no proof beyond the word of a crazy vampire. Until she got really curious and started hitting the internet. But that wasn't enough evidence. Lois had not physically seen either of them do anything worth giving her the impression that they weren't human.

That didn't matter, though. The story was being told. Lois would react. Hopefully, he was praying, for the better. As much as he picked and teased and argued with her, Clark couldn't deny that Lois was an important part of his life. He knew she had the ability to adapt, but were aliens too much for even her to handle?

"It's true," Clark verified, watching Lois carefully, "our planet was called Krypton. It was destroyed. I was raised here among all of you and Kara..." He looked over at her, slightly able to muster a faint smile. "She's learning."

It was a lot to take in, and it was no wonder Lois found herself heading towards the nearest chair and plopping down onto it. They were saying they were aliens. That was not the answer Lois had been expecting, and the only reasons she even threw that option out there was because, for one, she knew that aliens existed, and because she figured that would be one thing that Clark was sure to shoot down. She had been all sorts of prepared to accept him as a meteor freak, but this was a lot bigger than that.

"So, I can see why you didn't tell me a long time ago," she said, nodding slowly, her eyes locking on a spot on the floor. "But hey. At least you're not lying now. Either that or you're taking a really weird detour around the truth."

She was learning. She still didn't fit in, but she could probably be more in tune with Earths Pop Culture than Clark at times. Maybe. This wasn't her home, but she was doing her best without trying to sacrifice who she was.

"It's a dangerous secret to know." she said to Lois seriously, watching her sit down on the couch. "Maybe not so much here where everyone thinks we're fictional. But back in our world...trouble follows us." she said with a shrug. The she glanced over to Clark. "Or trouble follows him which means it follows the rest of us." Herself, Chloe, Jimmy, Lois, even if she didn't know it.

"Soo..." she said, looking between the two of them. "No more risk of arguing or Lois throwing something at Clark, right?" because of that was the case, this was probably a great time for her to leave. They probably had things to talk about.

"She's not going to throw anything at me," Clark said hastily. He looked over at Lois, hesitating slightly. "Right?" She didn't seem too angry. At all. The fact that Lois was being so oddly understanding was making Clark feel a little disoriented himself. He had expected rage and ranting and an incoming field of furniture missiles. It made Clark feel like he had either had enough practice to get this down the right way without pissing someone off (which he didn't) or Lois was doing this wrong (which he was beginning to think she was). Hands still jammed into his pockets, Clark kept to his corner of the room. He didn't want to wander over, only to have Lois change her mind when he got closer. The last thing he needed for her to do was freak out on him.

...not that she didn't do that often already.

"I'm not lying," Clark verified, "it's the truth."

Lois let out a weak laugh at that and shrugged, her eyes still locked on the floor. "There's always a chance of me throwing something at Clark," she said simply. And there was, it was just in her nature. Lois had the tendency to throw things at Clark when she got mad at him, and it seemed like it got even worse here in Lawrence.

She took another long sip of her coffee, trying to steady herself a bit more. Because even though she may look fine on the outside, on the inside she was far from it. "So... What can you do?" she asked, not completely sure she wanted to know, but her journalistic curiosity was kicking in. Not that she was actually going to write about this or anything, even though it would be sure to land her a job at at least a local paper or World of Weird (or whatever this world's version of the Inquisitor was called). She didn't plan on telling anyone about Clark and Kara.

"Yeah, well just don't make it anything valuable." because then it would break, and they'd just have to come up with the money to replace it. It was easier to just not throw things.

She looked to Lois and grinned. "A wide variety of talents." In less than a second she was at the window of Clark's apartment, instead of where she had just been. "But I'll let my cousin explain that. I'm sure you two have a lot to talk about." she said, a somewhat cheeky smile on her face, before giving Clark a look that said 'you'll be fine.'

They should really just do the world a favor and stop lying to themselves. One hand on the window, she pushed it open. "I've got some things to get in the city anyway." turning to look out the window, she waved over her shoulder. A moment later she was gone, air born and headed away.

No, no, no! Clark shot Kara a look of alarm, but it didn't make much of a difference. The expression returned said it all: this was his mess. She had helped clean it up enough. It was his responsibility to take care of the rest. Tugging at his collar, Clark anxiously shook his head at his cousin in disagreement. He didn't want to do this alone. Except he didn't exactly have a choice. Before he was able to speak, Kara was hopping out of the window to who even knew where.

"Show off," he muttered. Flying away like that was the one thing that Clark sort of wished he could do right now. Running was always an option, but even Clark wondered if somehow Lois Lane and her need to know all things would manage to block him in super mode anyway. Sighing, he looked back across the room, realizing that seeing Kara just zip off and fly away like that had probably shocked her a bit.

"Kara...obviously has things to do," he started awkwardly. Which Kara had just stated, but it was easier to repeat things than actually get into the conversation that he'd inevitably have to sit through. Or stand. Probably stand.

Lois looked over in time to see Kara go out the window. If there had been a doubt in her head that Kara didn't actually have any powers and was just covering in Clark, seeing her fly away would have gotten rid of them.

"Can you fly, too?" Lois asked, still staring at the window where Kara had been just seconds before. Finally, she turned to look at Clark again, but her face was still relatively blank. Most of the time Lois Lane was fine at taking in crazy things people told her, but something like this, about one of the people she'd known for years and considered a best friend (not to mention those feelings of hers that she tried to ignore), it threw her for a bit of a loop. To put it simply, she was having a harder time accepting this than usual.

"And did Lana know she was dating an alien?"

Okay, so that was a little more Lois-like.

"No," Clark said immediately. He winced slightly, then shrugged. "Not yet. I'm earthbound at the moment. Kara says it's because I'm male or stubborn or something."

Lois was actually sort of scaring him. He was more used to her being a loud-mouth and aggressive about things than calm and quiet. He almost wished that she would throw something at him just to get a reaction that was what he would have considered to be normal. Clark was beginning to wonder that if he started shouting for Kara to come back, would she hear him and do as much? Maybe now was a good a time as any to learn how to fly...

"Lana..." Ow. What a way to dig into more than just one subject. Clark cringed internally, that part of him that would always love Lana aching at the thought of her. He understood and respected their parting of ways - it wasn't like they'd had a choice - but it still stung. "Did know. Not at first, but she found out eventually."

"Well, you are both of those alright. Especially the second one." Lois tried to take another sip of her coffee, but found she had run out and wasn't even sure when that had happened. Muttering something about coffee never lasting, Lois got up and headed towards the coffee pot once more, only to turn at the last moment to see if Clark had anything with alcohol in it in the fridge. She didn't expect him to, it was Clark after all, so she wasn't surprised when she didn't see anything aside from chocolate milk and juice.

With a sigh she closed the fridge and went back for the coffee. "Well, at least she found out eventually. You know, you really should get a bottle of Jack or something. Sometimes people need a shot to get back to their normal brain patterns," she said as she poured herself another mug full.

Clark didn't even appear to be worried about the fact that Lois was digging around through his refrigerator like it was her own. From what he could remember from what his mother had told him, the very first time Lois even visited the Kent farm she had been digging into their cabinets, pouring herself coffee, and acting as though their home was her home without even knowing either of them. It was typical Lois Lane behavior and, for as long as he had known her, Clark really had learned to get used to it. It didn't even phase him anymore, unlike other people who might have been confused or annoyed by it.

"Lois...you're...being evasive," Clark said slowly, looking at her in concern. "Can you calm down on the coffee and alcohol for a second and talk to me?" He took a cautious step forward, trying to make eye contact with her as best as he could. "Please?"

"It's sort of hard to get worked up about alcohol when there isn't any in the first place," Lois said as she finished getting her coffee just the way she liked it, then took a long sip. Once she was done with that she glanced quickly at Clark before looking around the apartment again.

"I'm not being evasive. When have I ever been evasive?" Okay, so maybe there were plenty of times that Lois had gotten evasive about things in the past, and most of those tended to be related in one way or another to when feelings were involved. She just had to hope that Clark wouldn't exactly put two and two together to come to the conclusion that yeah, feelings were involved.

But this was Clark. Lois kinda thought he wouldn't do that math.

"You are being evasive," Clark pointed out, yet again. She was. If she wasn't, the Lois Lane that Clark Kent knew would have taken it upon herself to throw every object within arms reach at his head. While ranting. And glaring. Clark shuffled from one foot to the other uncomfortably. This wasn't going very well at all. "I just told you that I was from another planet," he pressed, moving forward yet another step. It was a bold move, advancing in her direction like that. But since Lois was neither declaring him a monster or throwing things at him, he didn't see why it would be a bad thing.

"Don't you want to talk about it, maybe? Sit down or something?" Because what she was doing now couldn't be healthy. There was no way. It was a very complicated thing to learn about, especially when one was so close with the person who just told tale of being an alien. The cases that they worked were different. Lois didn't know any of those aliens are meteorite infected people personally.

Not like him.

"I am not." Lois was adamant about that, even though it was a lie. With a soft sigh she turned to watch Clark for a moment before speaking again.

"So. Is there anything else you've been hiding from me that I might need to know about?" she asked simply. "Because if there is, now's the time to spill it. Nothing's going to top the whole alien thing so you might as well go ahead and get it out of the way." Of course, if there was something else there was no guarantee that she wouldn't react with throwing things. Hell, there wasn't even a guarantee that she wouldn't revert to throwing things because of this. No one ever knew what was going to flip that switch with Lois.

Eyes staying locked on Clark, Lois leaned against the counter and set her mug down before crossing her arms over her chest.

He decided that it was a good idea to avoid arguing with her when she was in such a weird place. Clark put up a hand, indicating that he was letting it go. Normally he would have pressed on until his point was made, but right now he'd very much rather appeal to her good side. Even if that meant letting things like her obvious need to avoid go.

Anything else? What could possibly top off the alien heritage thing? Oh, right. There was that. Bracing himself slightly, Clark cleared his throat again and looked down. Lois probably wasn't going to like this one. Unless she had already put two and two together. But the shock of finding out that your co-worker slash friend slash whatever else he was might have made it so that she didn't even have the chance to think that far into it.

"You know how I always actively serve as a skeptic to The Blur?" Clark winced slightly. "Yeah, that's because...that's me. I'm him."

Really, that shouldn't have surprised Lois, considering the whole alien thing. But the alien thing still hadn't really set in yet, so hey, color her surprised. And if Lois thought that there weren't any buttons left to push before he said that, she was wrong.

Without thinking about what she was doing, her hand tightened around a nearby coffee mug (not her own, of course, that would be a waste of coffee) before picking it up and chunking it, hard, at Clark. "Why couldn't you have told me at least that part?!" Lois yelled, glaring at him. She was officially mad again. "That wasn't just leaving stuff out, that was lying every time you went all skeptic about him."

Clark would have easily been able to dodge or catch the sailing mug if not for the fact that Lois had surprised him. Once second she was all calm and collected, the next she was hurling his mug at him? It slammed into his shoulder and immediately shattered, the impact very much turning out to be similar to one throwing a glass at a rock wall. Looking down at the ruins of his mug, Clark took a step to the side in case he needed to dodge another flying object. One hand rose to brush the bits and pieces of broken mug from his shirt as he looked across the room at Lois in concern.

"You didn't have to throw that," he pointed out. At least he was getting some kind of emotion out of her? That didn't mean that it was a good thing. After all, she was throwing things at him. He regretted wishing for it, somewhat. "Was I supposed to tell you that I was The Blur? Do you realize how many enemies I have out there that would love to get their hands on the one person who knows who I am? Be reasonable, Lois. I was protecting you."

"Oh, don't you try to tell me what I do and don't need to do, Clark," Lois snapped, glaring daggers at him. "Because you know what? You don't get to make those kinds of decisions for me."

And then he tried to call her unreasonable. Or, at least that's how Lois took it. "Oh, right. Because those same people wouldn't eventually come after me anyway just because I know you? They wouldn't start taking wild guesses as to who you know that might know and snag me or something? You weren't protecting me, Clark. You were protecting yourself."

"I've seen people get hurt time and time again because of who I am and what I can do," Clark said evenly. He wasn't going to get angry. He couldn't get angry. It was better to keep a calm and rational head about all of this. Lois was understandably upset. It wasn't exactly shocking to find that she was annoyed enough to argue with him about this. In one way, it showed that she was a lot less like Lana. The thought wouldn't have even come to him if Lois hadn't have brought her up earlier, but now that it was there he couldn't help but compare. Lana had been a lot more aggressive about figuring him out, but once the truth was there she'd been fairly easy to deal with. Lois, on the other hand...

"Take Chloe, for example. Do you know how often she's put her life on the line to keep my secret safe? Do you know how many times your cousin has almost died because of me?" Clark shook his head. "I might have been protecting myself in a way, but it wasn't just about me. People get hurt all the time because they're so close to me. And you, I never imagined that you'd get this -"

He had already gone too far with that one. They both knew what he had been about to say. Lois Lane was too close to him now. He cared about her too much.

Lois perked a brow at him then, crossing her arms over her chest. "Aren't you the one that felt the need to point out just how often I almost get myself killed anyway? Newsflash, Clark. I'm already used to that sort of thing."

She rolled her eyes at the last part though. "You didn't expect me to, what? Get so pissed off that you lied to me for the last few years? No, there's no reason for me to get mad about that at all. I mean, I only trusted you."

Shaking her head, she sighed and muttered where she thought she would be the only one to hear. "I always fall for the hero-type jerks."

"You almost always get yourself killed because of the things that you do on your own," Clark pointed out, "and knowing about all this, about me, it's only going to add on to that. I don't like putting all this weight on peoples shoulders, it makes life difficult for them. My best friend even moved out of Smallville a few years ago because of all the -"

Ah, Pete. That was both a sore and wonderful subject all at the same time. He'd never stop considering him as a brother and really couldn't blame him for leaving when he did, but Clark did miss him.

"I'm sorry, Lois, I didn't think -"

I always fall for the hero-type jerks. The barely audible mutter came out as clear as ever to him. Clark cleared his throat, hands burying themselves even deeper into his pockets. "Uh, Lois...hearing really, really well is sort of part of how I work."

Lois had been about to reply to Clark's little cut off comment about not thinking when she heard the rest of what he said. She suddenly looked a lot less pissed off and a lot more embarrassed, with her eyes going wide and face flushing just a bit.

"You know, I should probably go," she started, looking away from Clark, because he probably wouldn't have pointed out his hearing if he hadn't hurt what she thought she had only said to herself. "Yeah, leaving sounds good about now." The problem was that Clark was standing between her and the door.

Biting down on her lip hard, Lois moved towards him, eyes locked on the floor as she planned to just walk around him.

She was trying to leave? Was it a good idea for her to make an exit like that after having all of that thrown at her? Was Clark supposed to stop her? He reached out with a hand and wrapped his fingers carefully around the upper portion of her right arm. Before Lois could get to the door, Clark turned her about to face him, leaning in close so that his face was merely inches away from her own. Maybe she could run away. But Clark wanted to make it painfully clear that she had no reason to. Not because he was an alien and certainly not because, to his complete and utter shock, she had just admitted to having feelings for him.

It looked like he wasn't the only one who had been keeping a secret. Rather than throwing that bit of information into her face, Clark locked eyes with Lois briefly. In response to her declaration of needing to leave, he merely said, "Why?"

Lois shouldn't have been surprised when Clark stopped her, but she was. Plus, she was wondering why he had to be that close to her just then. Not that she didn't like it. Lois thought she shouldn't like it now that she knew he was an alien, but she still did.

"Because whether I meant to or not, I think I just turned the awkward dial up to eleven and it's probably best if I just... leave," she said quickly, looking up at Clark for a moment before looking away again.

"Just... forget I ever said that, alright?" Especially since she figured that if those comics and movies and stuff got anything wrong, it would be the fact that Clark had feelings for her. There was no way he would. Never mind that makeout session Clark had with the demon in her body a few months earlier, she remembered it all too clearly, but chalked it up to that demon being good at getting guys to do stuff like that.

"I won't forget it," Clark said clearly. He didn't want to give Lois the impression that he didn't understand, respect, or even return those feelings. What he wanted to do was make sure that she was all right before overwhelming her all over again. There was still the possibility of her already being horribly overwhelmed as it were, so he had to be very cautious with what he was saying and doing here. "I don't want to."

He let go of her. After everything, he didn't want to force himself on Lois. That would only alarm and scare her. "You don't have to stay, Lois. But I would really like to sit down and talk to you about all of this." He folded his arms over his chest and looked at her cautiously. Half of him wanted to drag her over to the nearest chair and force her to talk it out. The other part that was afraid of what she might say or do as a result refused.

"And why not?" Lois asked, not snapping quite as much as she usually would have when asking that. "So you can hold it over my head later or something? Because there's a reason I never told you." She shook her head, eyes landing on the window across the room once she was still again.

Looking at her then, no one would have guessed how angry she had been moments earlier. Now, she just looked tired and slightly hurt. Relationships never worked out for her, so she tried to avoid them these days, heading off the hurt she always ended up feeling a few weeks, or months if she was lucky, later. She never wanted Clark to know she had feelings for him to avoid that stuff. And that on top of all the other stress of the day was just a little too much.

"I doubt there's anything else to talk about."

She wasn't getting it, was she? Clark was going to have to fix that. Maybe Lois would walk out of here feeling angry and upset with him, but she wouldn't walk out of this apartment with a broken heart. He had seen that happen - he'd felt that happen - one too many times and Clark wasn't going to standby and watch it land on the shoulders of someone that he very much cared about. "I don't want to forget because I have feelings for you," Clark told her honestly. It was hard admitting the truth, but a lot easier doing so after Lois had herself. "I have no reason to hold anything like that over your head. If I'm going to put all of my secrets out there, I might as well do it all at once, right? So there it is. I have feelings for you, Lois Lane. I don't want to just be the reporter sitting across the desk from you. I don't just want to be the guy that you gossip to about the Blur. I want to be with you and whether or not you're able to feel as though you're able to do the same after what you've just learned about me is entirely up to you. But please don't feel like I want to mess with your feelings like that, Lois. I wouldn't ever do that."

There. It was done. All three of his big secrets, right there for Lois to pocket, carry around, and either use for or against him later. Clark looked down, anxiously wondering how the rest of this conversation was going to carry out.

Shocked, Lois looked back up at Clark, eyes wide. "I... You... Huh?" That had really taken her by surprise. Lois had always figured that Clark would go find someone else at least somewhat like Lana, what with Lana being the one Clark had pined over for so long, and Lois couldn't be more different from the girl in question. Aside from the fact that they both had dark hair, that was.

"I really wasn't expecting that," she said simply, blinking. "Why? I mean, no. Don't answer that. That's a really stupid question." Usually she didn't ask the stupid questions, but she could easily blame that lapse on too much shock for one day.

"Why?" She asked him not to answer that question, but they both knew that Clark was going to. "You're bossy, you're rude, you're obnoxious. You eat all my food, you complain all the time, you always pick on me." He shook his head, smirking faintly. "In spite of it all, you've grown on me. There's a side to you that I get to see sometimes that other people don't, Lois and every last part of it is..."

He looked a little embarrassed, but Clark went on with it anyway. "It's beautiful. It's you."

Clark wasn't very good at this. Expressing himself, being open about his feelings when it came to...what, was this a crush? Something more, possibly? He wasn't good at it, either way. He feared that one day he was going to say something nice and affectionate and it was going to come off as bizarre and intimidating. Romance was a really weird thing.

It was extremely rare that something could be said to make Lois Lane bashful, but all that stuff that came out of Clark's mouth did the job. Even the parts that were really insults. "You... Uh... Didn't have to actually say all that, you know," she said, going quite red in the face.

She bit her lip, looking up at him. If Clark wasn't any good at the whole feelings thing, then Lois was a disaster, plain and simple. Her relationship history was a battlefield, almost literally, complete with some of her exes ending up dead. Not by her hands, thankfully, but that would have been about the only way her past relationships would have been worse. They all seemed to end with either death or the guys leaving town.

"Yes, I did. I wanted you to know." If she was willing to fess up, so was he. There were no more secrets left. Lois could embrace that fact, or she could turn and walk away forever. At least Clark would know that he had tried. Fingers brushing some of his hair out of his eyes, Clark looked back to the window in which Kara had hopped out of a few minutes ago. He partially wondered if she was lurking around somewhere, eavesdropping in on their conversation. It wouldn't have been too hard with the type of hearing they had. In fact, knowing her? That was probably exactly what she was doing. Hovering by some clouds somewhere with a smug little smile on her face. Uncool.

Clark buried his hands into his pockets again, looking back to Lois uncomfortably. "What do we do now?"

"I don't know," Lois started simply, eyes moving down to examine another spot on the floor. She really wasn't sure what to do just then, after all. Clark was an alien and Lois had feelings for him.

And he had feelings for her.

That sort of thing was probably illegal. "I need to think about this," she paused to bite at her lip. "I'm... Really bad at this sort of thing, you know. It doesn't end well and, well, lets just leave it at that for right now, alright?" And why was he asking her what they should do, anyway? Lois thought he should know better than that, he'd seen a few of her relationships crash and burn himself.
