10:54 pm [seawolf10] [Link]	Comics you really should read... I'm in the process of dredging up a couple old recommendations of mine. First on the list is JLA: The Obsidian Age. This was the crowning point of Joe Kelly and Doug Mahnke's run on JLA, a few years before Infinite Crisis. A mega-arc so big it took two trades to complete, this story could have been even better than it was. A little more refinement, a little more thought during the writing process, and Kelly would have crafted a masterpiece. sigh Ah, well. Even the flawed version that we got was tons of fun. Time travel, sorcery, and a substitute JLA (consisting of Nightwing, Green Arrow, Major Disaster, the Atom, Hawkgirl, Jason Blood, Zatanna, and others) stepping in to deal with a present-day crisis while the 'regular' JLA was dealing with a threat in 1000 B.C...that period's version of a Justice League (hereafter dubbed as the "Ancient League"), based out of ancient Atlantis, and acting under the impression "our" JLA intended to destroy the world. I'm just going to post the beginning... 06:08 pm [lipsofpoison] [Link]	DCU Holiday Special As requested by ladymirth, scans from last years DC Holiday Special. In A Day Without Sirens, there are posters up advertising a day without guns, knives, etc. Despite Jim Gordon's complete disbelief, there are 24 hours without a single 911 call and a downtrodden Jim is much cheerier when he meets Batman, who seems quite happy himself. ( 2 scans under the cut ) In It's a Wonderful Night, Dick runs into trouble while trying to hand deliver a special present for Tim. He then discovers Tim with Owen Mercer at a showing of 'It's A Wonderful Life'. ( 2 scans under the cut ) In The Night Before Christmas, the Teen Titans take a christmas break and go hang out. Tim is a bit emo and he and Cassie reflect at Rockerfeller Centre. ( 2 scans under the cut ) In Party Animal, John Stewart (Green Lantern) and Roy Harper (Red Arrow), are late for the Christmas party, which even Batman is attending. They bring Shaggy Man along to give S.T.A.R labs a break, who gets spooked by the singing. Let's face it, you would too. It all ends with a good partying. Yesterday I posted One Perfect Moment of the Pied Piper and was asked to post a few of his "power of music" moments. ( Two scans of 'Piper is a better musician than Superman' behind the cut ) I must also thank Icon_UK for posting One Perfect Coming-out, which has long been hailed as a perfect example of how to handle such a moment. 09:49 am [kagome654] [Link]	Male bonding on the love boat- 'Three of a Kind' lightbrigade's post reminded me of a story that ran through the Green Lantern, Green Arrow and The Flash comics many years ago entitled 'Three of a Kind.' It was essentially about the three younger heroes bonding on an Alaskan cruise (and fighting some villains along the way). This leads to some interesting speculation on life, love and if Connor is still a virgin. 06:27 pm [bluefall] [Link]	The Many Faces of Barbara Minerva, part 5 (Rucka & Villains United) It's kind of odd to say, but up till this point, the Cheetah has actually had a certain consistency to her. I mean, obviously, in four different chapters we've had four completely different characters, but every different take on Barbara Minerva has actually followed pretty reasonably from the one before, enough that you can actually trace a coherent thread of development through the whole thing - you can see where WML got his reluctant ally from in Perez, you can track Jimenez' calm mastermind to Byrne's deliberate restoration. There have been wild shifts in character, yes, but nothing truly out of left field (Boy!Cheetah excepted, but he doesn't reflect on Minerva herself). You can always pretty much figure where any given emphasis sprang from. Yeah, that was apparently too good to last. ( A sad lack of the barest shadow of consistency under the cut. ) Next up, somewhat less annoying but possibly even more stupid: Cheetah as portrayed by Pfeifer, with bonus Jeph Loeb. Because apparently the purpose of this series was to torture myself and then spread the pain to you.
