[He didn't wake with a start. Misha, he was real accustomed to other folks in his head while he slept. It was hard to keep them out sometimes in waking, but it was real awful in dreaming. He woke real slow, and with all the memories playing over on top of each other in his mind. He had a real nice dog named Rosie, and he was sick in a sink, and he wanted to dance ballet, and he was a sacrifice, and they all overlapped real heavy 'til the boy woke with pale eyes blinking slow. Damian, he was over there painting, fingers all covered in real thick black, and the world, it got itself real loud.

And, Misha, he done something he'd never done 'fore this. He blinked himself up, deliberate. Up, and he was back 'fore any time had passed, least for the world being flooded by Corinthian's demise. He stood, wordless, kissed Damian's hair, and then he was gone, and 'fore the other boy had a thing to say 'bout it. He couldn't stay any.]

[She'd fallen from the sky.

The memory had struck her while she was flying, and then she'd fallen from the sky, thankfully hitting tree instead of bare ground, but still with enough speed to injure her wing. With nowhere else to go and no way to help herself, she walked awkwardly toward the B&B, grateful that it was close. Even if close was a relative thing, especially for short legs that were not meant to cover distance on the ground. She had to rest often, breath coming harder and the periods where she was walking growing shorter.

The B&B finally loomed ahead of her, and she knew that Atticus lived in the carriage house. Slow steps, growing slower, finally brought her to the carriage house's door. She paused, trying to gather as much strength as possible, and then pecked four times at the door. A pause, and then four more. She would do her best to continue until someone opened the door.]
