[Event | Yule Ball]
Night was falling, the smell of spices were in the air and Jennifer was busy putting the last finishing touches on all the hard work everyone had done to get the athletic complex decked out and festive.

Walking through the front door, you'll see a table where you can put all your presents on for now with a tree sitting behind it. Don't worry, the bots will make sure no one but Jennifer takes any gifts off the table! There's also a series of volunteers ready and willing to help you out of your coats if you need it, but otherwise, please don't hesitate to shed off a few layers.

It might be a little warm if you don't.

Inside the main entrance, Jennifer's taken care to section off the room into the main dancing area and a stage salvaged from the Valentine's Day auction off to the side for the performances later on. Surrounding the outer edges, are tables and settees salvaged from the Shelter so that those who wish to watch can do so in comfort. Do be careful though. Scented candles are lit on each table to provide a soft light to balance out the harshness of the lights over the dance floor.

And of course there's food. Punch and egg-nog and shrimp and cheese and a myriad of other finger foods. There are cookies decorated with frosting and lemon bars and cranberries and a giant bowl of sugared dates. Marzipan is scattered across the table and a small gingerbread house sits as a centerpiece, but the cake is the main attraction.

But the cake comes with a price. Anyone who wants a piece, must do what it says on the toothpick first. Have fun! And no cheating. Someone might be watching to make sure no one does.

Music is already playing and Jennifer's leaving things up to the host club to make sure people start dancing, because what's sadder then a ball with no dancing? Do make sure to enjoy yourselves. It's why we're all here!

((ooc: The first thread is for the cake game and will list various things you must do. The second is for performers to do their act so we can group reactions together in one spot. And last, mingle, threadjack, and have merry with whatever your characters want to do in the rest of the post!

As an ooc gift meme was suggested instead of actually threading out every gift exchange, we will be doing that instead, but we highly encourage you to still seek out your gift recipients and build CR in the post as you will.

Also, mistletoe can be found neatly tucked inside wreaths at the main entrance to the Athletic complex and also from the cloak room leading into the dance hall. Be nice! Ask permission first.))

Kaworu Nagisa. [He nods in greeting.] I met another one who looked a bit like you, only with longer, darker hair and glasses. And I'm here with Hiling.

[Moving a bit closer, a mischevious grin on his face.] Were you part of the hacking attempt, too?

Ah. You must have met either Regene Regetta or Tieria Erde. [Since they were the only ones with darker purple hair] I see. She definitely needs some amusement. [Having seen Hiling depressed for a few days it was good she was doing something]

Yes, I was one of the hackers.

Right, it was Tieria. I keep forgetting his name. He knew someone from my world, who was here before I arrived, which was how we met.

[At the mention of Hiling needing amusement, he looks curious, but not at all concerned.] Jennifer intimated that a friend of hers had disappeared recently.

[And a slightly sharper smile when he answers in the affirmative.]

I had a feeling the culprits weren't Lilim - they would have been far too concerned about the potential effect on others. Acumen certainly doesn't react well to having its power tampered with, does it?

I see.

He seems to have made quite an impression on people. [There is a tone that says he doesn't really likes Ribbons] Hiling's twin.

No, certainly not. [Though he is honestly surprised that it was as little as it was between both Acumen and the Defense Force]

Twin? [He has yet to see both sides of a matched pair, so he looks quite surprised.] Your kind have siblings? I was under the impression that you weren't organic.

[Despite his grin reappearing, he looks openly unimpressed as they continue to discuss Acumen.] I've had my powers blunted by Acumen recently as well. Apparently blocking the signal on someone's life signs for about fifteen seconds - without harming them, either - is grounds for it. Thankfully, all the Defense Force had for me were lectures.

We are organic in that we are not made of a metallic substance. But we don't come into existence the way that humans do. We also have nanomachines that allow us to heal faster than a human would. But our "siblings" have the same basic DNA sequence that we do though there are variations.

That is all the Defense Force had for us as well. Our quantum brainwaves were blunted when we first arrived, which is why we needed so many to hack.

[Ah, finally, a more proper explanation of what they are. Some of it goes over his head, but he gets the basic idea - not unlike what was done with Rei, by the sounds of it, but with nanomachines in place of an Angelic soul.]

Then you're modified Lilim, essentially. Or improved, some might say. [Grinning at that.] Some of your abilities don't sound unlike ours - improved healing, control over certain electronics. Are 'quantum brainwaves' what give you control over computers, then?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]quesstheskittle
2010-12-25 07:18 pm UTC (link)
Possibly. I do not know what a "Lilim" is so we might. [He is intrigued though] Yes, quantum brainwaves are what give us our ability to connect to computers. We were also able to use them to communicate with each other. Some who don't understand would call that telepathy.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Oh, 'Lilim' simply means human. In my world, humans were born of a being called Lilith - thus, Children of Lilith, or Lilim.

Silent communication... that must have been a helpful ability. I can sense others like myself, but not speak with them. I imagine you'll miss that. [Tiny, brief frown. Just like he'll miss the closest thing he had to an offensive ability - dunking people in LCL.]

[info]quesstheskittle
2010-12-25 07:38 pm UTC (link)
I see. Yes, we would be considered improved humans. The original donors for our DNA were humans, but being created to be Innovators improved our abilities over what they could hope for.

It was. Very helpful since we were able to communicate across distances without the use of computers. We couldn't sense each other per say, but with quantum brainwaves we were able to make ourselves known if we chose to. Yes, that will be missed. [Partially because it would have been much easier to understand what Hiling was thinking after Ribbons disappeared.]

Hmm... [That interests him a good deal. If he could have communicated with Arael or Armisael in a similar way, a lot could have been avoided.]

I have no means of communicating with other Angels - I'm the only one in humanoid form, and some of the others can communicate, but the results of communicating with them are rather... catastrophic.

Angels? [Revive is intrigued again. There aren't such things in his world and that always gets him interested. Plus he was talking with one, which made it that much more interesting] Is that they are unable to take a humanoid form? Catastrophic how?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]odetojoy
2010-12-25 08:07 pm UTC (link)
It's not a natural form for Angels - I was artificially crafted, by a group called SEELE, to appear Lilim.

[And now his natural soft smile becomes a little dissonant.] Two Lilim that I worked with found themselves in a position to communicate with Angels - one had her psyche forcibly invaded and wound up in a coma, and the other had her body taken over and committed suicide.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]quesstheskittle
2010-12-25 08:44 pm UTC (link)
So you are an Angel that was artificially made?

[The smile doesn't bother him. It's practically nature for Innovators to smile when talking about just about anything. He does pause however at what he says. Granted its only two humans, but for that occur just through communication...] Yes, I would consider that catastrophic.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]odetojoy
2010-12-25 08:52 pm UTC (link)
Yes, that's right. I still have all an Angel's defensive abilities - although, for obvious reasons, not the offensive ones - and I can serve SEELE's purpose as well as any other, but I wasn't naturally born of Adam.

[And that gives him a new area of curiosity.] Who's behind the Innovades, anyway? I know you were created to survive in space and to unite humanity, but who came up with the whole thing?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]quesstheskittle
2010-12-25 09:16 pm UTC (link)
If those abilities are what caused the previously mentioned events, I would say it is obvious why you don't have those. What sort of defensive abilities do Angels have?

Our reason for existence is due to Aeolia Schenberg. Our plan, Celestial Being, and other aspects of the current world were either thought up by him, predicted, or it was our responsibility to see that they went that way.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]odetojoy
2010-12-25 09:25 pm UTC (link)
Oh, no, those are only encroachment-type Angels - that's a form of communication, not an attack. But Angels can be very destructive, and if SEELE had given me their offensive abilities, I could easily have blasted out of their headquarters and taken matters into my own hands. A tool can only be so dangerous, after all, before it's a danger to you as well. [Smirking coolly.]

It's called an AT Field. In my case, I can block attacks - [A massive, glowing orange shield appears for just long enough to see, then vanishes again] - or evade them. [He floats into the air, high enough that his toes are level with Revive's eyes, then back down again.] I had other abilities, but as I said, they've been removed or blunted by Acumen. Toying with electronics would be quite a risk to it, after all.

[He just takes in the information about Revive's world, wondering how this Schenberg compares with SEELE. His plan was very different, but both wanted to unite humanity. The similarities are undeniable.]

I see. Encroachment-type. Yes, giving a tool too much power does tend to have terrible consequences. [There's a look in his face that says he knows exactly how that would happen from experience and that he hasn't been the one on the receiving end]

[Revive watches unphased as Kaworu brings up the shield and then temporarily hovers in the air.]
Impressive. I can see why Acumen would remove other abilities. Yes, it does seem to be. [He smirks] And I think Acumen has figured that out.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]odetojoy
2010-12-25 10:10 pm UTC (link)
You sound like you speak from experience. [A slight upward lilt to his voice turns that into a half-question.] SEELE were very good at giving people power, then knocking their legs out from under them when they took too much. That's the whole reason I was created.

Acumen is an interesting AI, isn't it? There was one involved in the decision-making at NERV, the MAGI, but it certainly wasn't given absolute power. It was created to be used, like any computer should be - even one capable of independent thought. [A soft sigh.] By the sounds of it, Acumen has no concept of its own flaws. It even has a sort of ego. Doesn't that seem dangerous to you, in both a warden and a computer?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]quesstheskittle
2010-12-25 10:54 pm UTC (link)
Indeed I do. People tend to underestimate the Innovades and it doesn't end well for them. More likely when they underestimate Ribbons. [Since Ribbons would let other Innovades get killed for his own plan] We've been alive quite a long time so we've seen this more than once. I see. It seems a lot of organizations tend to do that.

[They have an AI too? The similarities are surprising] Very interesting. We have a computer with an AI. It is capable of independent thought to determine what is needed to be done next in the plan. I agree. Flaws and ego are dangerous for both a computer and a warden.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

lol, he's bringing out the blah blah blah in kaworu. long comments are long.
[info]odetojoy
2010-12-25 11:04 pm UTC (link)
Have you? Do you not age like Lilim, then? [If they don't age, that might also make them immortal - another similarity with Angels.]

The MAGI was quite an unusual case, from what Keel told me. It was created by a female scientist, who actually built three computers to work in tandem, each one a part of her personality - one thought as a scientist, one as a mother, and one as a woman. According to him, it gave the computer the ability to develop conflicting views with itself... 'the human dilemma', he called it. I didn't see the point of creating a computer to be that much like a Lilim, but apparently it was considered quite revolutionary.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

haha - all a part of his plan?
[info]quesstheskittle
2010-12-26 12:03 am UTC (link)
No, the nanomachines also prevent aging. So we don't age from the time when we are created.

I agree. I don't see the point of having a computer that thinks so much like a human. The point of a computer with an AI is that it is supposed to be smarter than a human, not argue with itself. Ours was just one single one, VEDA. It does fine by itself with some outside input on so it can make decisions.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

this is not the fail you are looking for /hand gesture
[info]odetojoy
2010-12-26 12:08 am UTC (link)
Interesting. Another similarity with Angels. Are you immortal, then? Angels can be killed - I'm actually the last remaining Angel in my world - but left to our own devices, we'll live forever. So it's a form of immortality.

[He nods. That's more what he thinks of as an AI.]

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

hee
[info]quesstheskittle
2010-12-26 12:21 am UTC (link)
We can die, but there is the possibility of having a replacement body that, if we connect to VEDA right before our death, we can use it to move our consciousness to our replacement and survive. It has been used before. As far as we know, if left alone, we will live forever.
