WHO: Amelia and Gio
WHAT: The two meet at their regular noodle joint to discuss Amelia's powers.
WHEN: Saturday, January 29
WHERE: Noodle's favorite place to eat noodles!
RATING: PG
Gio was seated alone in a booth at the specified noodle place where he was supposed to meet Amelia that day, his elbows on the menu they'd given him. He had his cell phone out, and his fingers were tapping the buttons on its front furiously as he played through a fast-paced game. The phone was only inches away from his glasses, and his face was set with concentration.
Yet, while he played he was able to think of other things than high scores and daring in-game maneuvers. Ever since Amelia had texted him with her concern about the 'not so normal weird stuff' that happened to her he'd been thinking about what she could possibly want to share with him. His mind had immediately gone to powers – to whatever supernatural ability she possessed. It was beginning to become routine, at least to his sense of logic, but his pulse couldn't help but race every time he heard someone else had a power.
Something was going on. Even Ed had an ability. Gio had been the guinea pig in that experiment, and he'd consumed as much sugar and as many energy drinks as he could manage without getting sick. He had never felt as wired before in his life. Usually mellow, he'd been unable to sit still. Words that barely made sense were coming out of his mouth. There had been no way in hell he could sleep anytime soon naturally, and he'd told Ed that. Ed's response had been to concentrate, to remain still and look at Gio. Ed hadn't even had to touch him, and Gio found his eyelids growing heavy as consciousness slipped away from him.
Ironically, he hadn't been able to sleep much at all later that night because he was so sick from all of the caffeine and sugar he'd consumed.
But, as Gio thought of that, another voice popped into his head. A voice that said Amelia might not be meeting him to tell him about a strange power she had at all. Amelia wasn't exactly the definition of 'normal,' so a weird thing happening to her could be anything, really. Maybe her evil dog had turned into a saint. That was not so normal.
"Ugh," Gio said, resisting the urge to slap his phone down on the table as he died in the game. It wasn't the frustration of losing that was getting to him, but rather the stress of trying to figure out why everyone he knew could do crazy things. He couldn't! The only thing even remotely special about him was he had a way with fish, and like hell was he about to try to impress on his friends that that was a power.
No, he was more suited to listen to incredible stories than tell his own, and Gio had gotten used to that by now.
