The floodgates opened, and Gio listened intently as Amelia told him all about her power. Electricity, turning on light bulbs without a power source (other than herself) – hurting someone accidentally; it made him think back to what Katie had said to him the day Calvin told him his backpack strap would break easily a half hour before it had, that powers could be dangerous. Katie herself had fallen through the floor because of her ability and broken her leg, but Gio hadn't really put much thought into the powers hurting someone other than the person it belonged to.
"I've never heard of anyone creating electricity," Gio confessed, his voice equally as quiet as his friend's, "but I've heard of someone being a human magnet, and another person being able to go through things like walls or floors … and someone else being able to see the future." He didn't mention Glory's power because he still wasn't exactly sure what it was. "Most recently, someone put me to sleep just by looking at me." That still amazed him, possibly because it had been his brother who had done it.
"I think these are all weird things," he continued, "but I don't think it's that abnormal anymore. One of my brothers knows people who can do stuff, too. I've been trying to figure out why it's happening, but so far I'm coming up with nothing." Gio couldn't hold back a sigh of frustration at that. "It doesn't make sense that people would be able to do these things!" After a moment where he was all but ignoring Amelia in favor of the theories racing across his mind, Gio reminded himself he was there for her and that it was all new to her. Maybe she would join in thinking up a plausible explanation later, but right now she needed comfort, not science.
Gio set down the chopsticks he was holding and reached across the table, offering his open palm to Amelia. "If you do ever need a hand to hold and you think you might hurt someone, I'll risk the electrocution," he offered, smiling almost sheepishly because, yeah, that'd been corny. He still hoped Amelia would take him up on it if she needed to.
