Day 43.Weather: Heavy clouds roll in, covering the sky by midday. Temperatures hit 53 at the warmest point of the day, and the night is
very chilly.
Events: In the course of the night, Tanner and Hollis are removed from the tower. Benny, Morgan, and Arlo were simultaneously added to the tower, and each will have
the typical first morning experience.
Everyone will wake to that familiar omen of impending doom, that little blinking red light on their computers indicating a message from TPTB. People aren’t locked in their rooms, though, so that’s a good sign! No one was moved, either. People will wake wherever they fell asleep, and they can come back to this message at their leisure.
It reads:
“Greetings.
You all managed to figure out that everyone here is blessed with some preternatural gift fairly early. For those keeping track, within the tower there are currently eight vampires, nine werecreatures, five witches, five elementals, five psychics, and four feytouched. The non-human races (vampires, werecreatures, and witches) outnumber the human races (five elementals, five psychics, and four feytouched), twenty-two to sixteen.
For individuals possessing a great deal of knowledge regarding the occult, the distinction between human and not is generally made by whether or not an individual can be turned - be given the vampiric embrace, or the curse of a were’s bite. Elementals, psychics, and feytouched can be turned, and therefore they are typically classified as human - simply a gifted human.
Because the humans within the tower are at a disadvantage - both in the minority as far as numbers go, and generally unable to compete with the greater gifts of the inhuman races - we have decided to grant them each a gift.
Every human in Tower Aspera has been granted a device to allow mobile access to the internet. Perhaps this will even the scales slightly.
Good day.”
Well,
fuck you too, guys. Haha, but seriously, all the ‘human races’ have mobile phones with network capability now. Yes, Simone definitely counts as a human race.
These phones are not
their personal phones from the outside world. They are brand new, and of no recognizable brand. Any expert judging their capabilities would deem them to be top of the line. The phones are incapable of calling the outside world or accessing the internet (fucking duh), but can make calls to other phones - either the other mobile phones, or the room phones in the Tower Aspera suites. All the numbers have been preloaded into the contact lists. The phones have network capabilities anywhere in town, though may be sluggish or spotty deep within the caves. The phones also have front and back facing cameras. As one final little bonus, the phones all have a protective case in each owner’s favorite color. How thoughtful!
Ah, but here’s the rub. The phones reflect whoever is in possession of them. They can be given away. If someone feels charitable and believes there is someone else more in need, they can gift their phone to that person.
All contacts will automatically change in everyone else’s phone, and the color of the case changes to reflect the new owner.
For example, puny human Jim has been gifted a phone, but he thinks superior vampire Linda could use it more. Jim gives Linda the phone, and everyone else’s phone contacts automatically update in the directory. Jim's number is now Linda's number.
Oh. Yeah, now that you mention it, I guess the phones
could be stolen, and it would work exactly the same way. Huh. Weird.
