About a page from 'Tec Annual #11
I'm not gonna try to showcase the story here since I want to do a post on Kelly Jones' Oracle story instead (prolly tomorrow!) and wouldn't have many pages to spare, but there were a couple interesting points I wanted to share.

(and i'm sure i'll do a full post on this story once INAtA gets that far, but that won't be any time soon. months, maybe years!)

Moments from Gotham
In a few posts here at the comm there has been some discussion of classism in comic books, which of course means that some commenters have taken aim at Batman, or Bruce Wayne, once more. It isn't the first time I've discussion or such commentary on how Batman could do so much more for Gotham with his money instead of playing with gadgets, although I'm always amused how those comments always single Batman out. The reason, however, why I'm always a bit puzzled by that criticism is that it isn't as if it hasn't been dealt with in the Bat-books themselves, with it having been established several times that Bruce Wayne is the biggest philanthropist in Gotham, if not even in the whole world, and the Wayne Foundation is a significant benefactor in several charity project. It's not a secret, it's not a loose, it's canon. It's been dealt with several times, even if Morrison did drop that really weird dialogue in his storyline.

The discussion did however remind me of an awesome Batman story published in Gotham Knights 32, written by Devin Grayson with art from Roger Robinson. It takes place directly Bruce Wayne: Murderer/Fugitive, with Bruce Wayne having finally returned to Gotham after his innocence has been proven and with Batman having made peace with who he is. It was an interesting storyline and important one leading from NML, where Bruce Wayne failed to save Gotham, despite trying everything. It is a beatiful issue, with each page showing a moment in his life and the impact both Bruce Wayne and Batman have on Gotham, with both of them being as important. So I thought I would post some pages from the story, with it proving extremely difficult to choose which pages to include. I decided to go with scenes that show the long-term impact Bruce has on the city and the lives of different people there, although the story had beautiful moments concerning his relationship with almost all of the central Bat-Clan and awesome Bat-action.

Some Jim Gordon Goodness from Officer Down
This post is filling [info]kingrockwell's request for Jim Gordon interacting with people who aren't Batman and Robin, but I really love this book, so I might babble a little. Or, you know, a lot.

It's Not About The Answers: Behind The Mask Of Vic Sage, pt 4

Intermission: Hangin' with Beetle (pt 2)
With special bonus: Vic's Cool Quota Runs A Surplus

Tonight we're looking at Blue Beetle v6 #'s 5-7, by Len Wein and Paris Cullins. There's a lot of crazy meta stuff surrounding this arc. It ends two months before Ted plays his part in the Legends cross-over, which lead to JLI, so he hasn't really fostered any relationships with DC natives yet, so they apparently decided to reinforce his friendship with a fellow Charlton immigrant first. Also, and really, really interestingly, Vic's guest spot in BB #'s 4-7 (#4, if you'll remember, we glanced at in our last post) were released concurrently with the first four issues of Watchmen. It's makes me curious as to whether this arc happened to further establish Vic and Ted's partnership in order to legitimatize the homage of Rorschach and Nite Owl. It's a lot to think about.

Vic and Cigarettes, not good friends.
So, I've had a bit of a crazy week, which is why my next It's Not About The Answers post has been delayed, but two things that kind of slipped in struck me. The first is that I started smoking again because this has been a crazy week, and I needed it. The second is I started reading 52 because I hadn't bothered with the parts that don't involve Vic and Renee before.

I'll hopefully get the Blue Beetle #5-7 post done before this week's up. Things are lining up weirdly and I don't have nearly as much downtime as the vacation gave me, but we'll see.

Renee's bit from 'Tec 854
I'd been waffling over whether I wanted to post this just yet. I guess I'd had some idea where I'd Start a series on Renee when I was done with Vic, but I'd have so much to go through since I'd want to start at least with her part in Gotham Central if not earlier that by the time I got to her Tec back-up it'd be old hat.

Strike while the iron's hot, they say. Not only that, but I was looking at Cully Hamner's design sketches and there's no way I couldn't share them! There's too much good here.

Joker is God. Amen.
So last post... last day... Joker/Harley week. Sniff, sniff.

Anyways this is my favourite scene from the novelization of No Man's Land by Greg Rucka. A lot of it a more detailed version of the comics, but he did add some great bits. I would highly, highly, highly, highly recommend this book to anyone. It's a great read and has some beautiful Cass/Babs scenes. His Babara Gordon is AMAZING. Seriously. Her anger over Huntress... gahhh... well I don't want to spoil it for you, but get it. GET IT!

And for legality, a scan from Mad Love.

This requires a bit of reading.... but it's only a couple of pages!
