More from Tec' 856!
Renee's investigation continues!

When last we left her, our girl was investigating Chandless Shipping, but a lug named Mr. Bolt with a taser got the jump on her. Our story this month picks up with Bolt and Chandless deciding their little snoop'd best disappear, permanently!

So they drug her, lock her in the trunk of a car, then take it for a long drive off a short pier. What does Renee think about all this?

She breaks out, of course, and confronts Bolt in the parking lot. She'd try saying something witty...

"Where's Louisa Soliz?" Bolt doesn't know the name.

They're interrupted by Chandless, who has a gun. Renee takes a slug in the arm, then dives behind the cars for cover. When the shooting finally stops, Renee hazards a glance.

And she's left with nothing but the fleeing Chandless and a nameless buyer in Long Beach, not to mention GSW in her arm. Well, which of those trails seems hotter? We'll find out in a month!

The hair color bothers me. It's too close to her skin color.

Y'know, I was right there with people thinking that there's too much detail in the mask, but the shadows of where her face should be really do lend it their own sort of creepiness.

I was going to say that as much face as they gave her in the last panel is missing a certain Question-ness. But, actually, this works. It's not a normal face, but it is expressive. So, OK.

I had to do it.

Yee-haa, Renee!

Was that a Batman Begins callback at the end?

I'm afraid I can't agree with the people who like the way Renee's mask is drawn. As far as I'm concerned, those big, features-outling globs of shadow just ruin the all-important illusion that she is, in fact, faceless, which is a big part of the psychological benefit of wearing a mask like that in the first place.
And Renee, you may be cold, but you are NOT wet. Those ain't wet clothes, and your hair's dry, too. Lazy, lazy, mister artist.

The water was shown in panel's I'd cut to be dripping off her hat. This may be more a case of Lazy Mr. Colorist.

Water dripping off a hat doesn't cut it - if she's just escaped from the trunk of a car that was plunged into the harbor, her clothes should be sopping wet.

Wasn't necessarily a no time passed, either. She'd been waiting in the parking lot for Bolt for a while, implied by the pool of water she'd been standing in. Also, as she was saying that line, you can see the water trailing with each hit she gives. I still say it's more an issue of the coloring, which could've gone a long way to make it more clear if it'd even tried.

Also, as regards her mask, I'll let it slide because it still doesn't show as much detail as Vic's in the Veitch mini.

Each to their own. It just bugs me, is all.
