The Meta Game

NAVIGATE the meta game
There is a theory. A theory which states that all fiction has a basis in fact. That no idea is entirely original, but simply a divine glimpse into an alternate reality. A secret world, where legends live and breathe.

This theory is not just a simple idea, but fact. And only a small percentage of the human population will ever glimpse beyond the veil. The veil between our world as we know it, a façade that has been so carefully constructed to keep humans safe, and the true world. The Metahumans see the world as it truly is. And they are its guardians.

The Meta Game is an original superpower game, in which all characters have undergone an awakening, becoming metahuman. In this universe, there is a secret organization - referred to only has the Agency - that keeps tabs on all metahumans and preternatural activity. In this world, everything is true, and nothing is impossible.

Upon an individual's awakening, they are recruited into the Agency and offered a deal. Have your newfound powers and memory wiped, and safely return to your old life unchanged - or, embrace evolution and join the Agency. As a member of the Agency, your entire world opens up. The secrets of the world's legends are at your fingertips; an endless supply of knowledge for you to study to your heart's content. Money, more money than you have ever dreamed of. Luxury, travel, and of course, power. You are given a shortcut to devoting your life to whatever it is you've always dreamed of. But in exchange, you agree to become a guardian, and fight to protect the world from things the average human is incapable of facing.

When zombies rise in a Louisiana bog, it's you fighting on the frontlines. When aliens harass cattle in the English countryside, you're on clean-up duty. Some poor archaeologist has triggered the wrath of an Egyptian mummy's curse? It is your duty to send him back to the afterlife where he belongs. You will face creatures of every mythology, and stand triumphant. Thanks to you, the human world will never know how close they come to a new apocalypse each and every day.

It can be a thankless job, but hey. It's a living. And at least you don't pay taxes anymore.

The Hereafter

In the winter of 2015/16, the US experienced an increased rate of missing persons, murder, and violent crime. An alarming number of these cases remain unsolved. It all becomes additional political fodder, written off by many as a sign of the darkening times. But a small percentage of the population knows better.

They are secret keepers. They live in the shadows, their true selves hidden from the world. They understand the things that go bump in the night. Because they're one of them. Vampires. Werewolves. Witches. And everything in between, all the creatures of myth that aren't supposed to exist.

In the spring of 2016, as the snows melt away in Chicago, a small group of supernaturals decide it's time to take matters into their own hands. One day, the supernatural residents of the windy city begin receiving mysterious invitations. A club in the middle of nowhere, some one stoplight town no one's ever heard of. Inside those walls you can find just about anything, or anyone; from the pillars of society to the lowliest of criminals, you'll find them there.

In the Hereafter.

The Hereafter is a modern day urban fantasy game for original characters, set in Chicago, IL. We offer both a supernatural slice of life environment, along with an over-arching plot, open to all players and characters to participate in.

In the world of the Hereafter, an unspoken rule has been broken. Someone isn't cleaning up after themselves, and is risking the worst sort of exposure to the underground supernatural world. A vampire house, a dark coven, and a werewolf pack have entered into an unholy alliance, united by the belief that they are superior to humanity. They are gods on earth, humans merely peasants beneath their feet. It will be up to the supernatural denizens of Chicago to decide: oppose them, or join their ranks?

Praestare: a preternatural roleplay

Woodhaven was established in 1542 by Pastor Abram of the Lutheran Church, when the town was built around Saint John’s Lutheran Church. In less than twenty years the town managed to quadruple it’s population and moderately wealthy in trade with lumber, coal and produce. Good fortune seems to have smiled on the residents, as there is no history of famine or plague upon record, nor aberrations in livestock.

However, the town has suffered it’s fair share of violent animal attacks or missing persons over the years. Although in the last fifty years this has grown to be far less common.

Woodhaven is not a typical tourist destination, but it still draws visitors from local nearby towns and the occasional straggler who is looking to lose themselves in Devonshire county.

Praestare is an original character roleplay that takes place in the fictional town of Woodhaven, located in the United Kingdom. The primary focus of this game is on character development — be it through choices, relationships, or orchestrated events. This game is played in paragraph storybook format: we do not mind the use of gifs included in your thread, but no one liners, please. Currently, we’re a small group of writers looking to challenge our writing and expand our creativity with other like-minded individuals - if you think this is a good fit for you, please join us!

The Dark Era RPG

We have pre-mades with existing connections in game. Original Character Welcome.

Late in the Victorian era,the tightly held beliefs started to crack by the perfunctorily of moral disillusion. Anything that could get under and let loose the suffocating principles became a welcome, yet often, secret delight. This was the era of peace, of success, of industry and dark perversions. This, the Dark Era, where magic and mystery were cherished, celebrated and even respected becomes our stage for apocalyptic creativity.

It's time to face the darkness.

The Lost and Found

Supernaturals are in every dark corner of the world.

The world is filled with so many types of people, it seems near impossible to keep track of all of them. But that is what "They" do. It's unclear when "They" started, how "They" became so organized, but as long as anyone can remember, "They" have been there in the shadows, watching. Few people know who "They" really are, what "They" are called, but their purpose is well known throughout supernaturals; "They" keep you safe. Safe from the humans, safe from other supernatural species.

Sometimes, safe from yourself.

This is where L'académie des Objets Trouvés comes in. Affectionately called The Lost and Found, it is a school where adolescent supernaturals are taught to hone their skills, hide their telling physical attributes, and adapt to living in the world of the humans. Only .03% of the world population are supernatural, and it is only through the close monitoring and assimilation strategies of schools like this that they have continued to thrive undetected.

The Lost and Found is a supernatural school with a complicated history and an easy premise. Players can play as students or teachers, and can choose from a variety of supernatural races (or suggest their own!). Occasional school wide plots ranging from creepy to silly help keep things lively, and players always have input. Students are between the ages of 16-19, and players must be 18+ (due to mature content).

It's just like any other boarding school- grades, tests, dances, rumors, crushes, roommates, and bad cafeteria food. The only difference is here, your teacher really is a demon. Well... there is one additional difference, just a small, minor catch.

You're not allowed to leave until "They" decide you're ready.

Bump in the Night

Bump in the Night

MODS  •  RPG  •  OOC

Imagine for a moment...

Most Wanted List
Cast List
if all the things that scare you, everything in the darkest recesses of your mind was reality. Take a moment to consider how well you would sleep at night knowing that somewhere out there things were lurking, things that don't quite make sense to you in the light of day. Now come join us in finding out.

In the 1980's the United States confirmed the existence of Preternaturals and the fact that they do--and have--been living amongst the rest of the population for years. As the years have passed, their presence has grown increasingly hard for the rest of the world to ignore. Preternaturals--commonly referred to as spooks by normal humans aka mundanes--include vampires, were races, psychics, individuals capable of wielding magical power and elementals just to name a few. Some of them live peaceably and in secret alongside the mundanes, and some of them toe a very different sort of line, using their abilities to go outside the law.

Some mundanes take it upon themselves to eradicate these monsters from the world by any means necessary while some spooks have stepped up to the plate to control their own through more conventional means.

Where will you stand? Are you a spook or a mundane? Where does your allegiance lie, and how will you react to all those things that go Bump in the Night?

Bump in the Night is currently accepting applications for all races. If it's crept into your nightmares, you can be it. We especially would like some firemen for the House of Pain and teenagers in general.
