Old School RP

Is there anyone who would be willing to take over moderatorship of this community? I'm getting a little burnt out and would like to have another RPer take it over. There's not a whole lot involved; you get an email when a new post is submitted, you peruse it to make sure it meets the rules of the community, and accept or reject.

If anyone sees this and thinks they might be interested in helping moderate this asylum, please let me know! It's basically screening the games that submit ads to check and make sure they fit with the rules of this community, and then approving or rejecting the posts - not a difficult job but having a set of helping hands for when I'm unable to get to things promptly would not go amiss. Thanks!

As a couple people may have noticed, the former moderators of oldschoolrp have decided to step aside, but they were keen on having the community continue after their departure, so you have some new moderators. This is a new contact post for a new generation so that we are not spamming their emails with comments for a community they are not currently running, though it is identical to the old one in content! So here's the thing folks. I've been out of the public RP game since December/January. A few psls here and there is all I'm doing. This is because I'm tired. I'm very tired of the RP scene. I think I'm finally done. I have left RP and come back before, but never for this long and never with the feeling that I wasn't coming back.

I'm saying this because, due to my RP-apathy, I'm no longer interested in running oldschoolrp. My co-maintainer has no designs or time for running it either. If I go, so does she.

We're debating on closing it down entirely or, if the demand for an ad community like this is still strong, handing it over to someone we trust not to run it into the ground immediately.

So what do you guys want? Do you want the community to keep going if we can find someone who can devote some time to it to run it in a way that's beneficial for folks looking for old school rp? Should we just graciously close it and leave that as that?

Leave us your input here and we'll use it to figure out what to do next. Thanks everyone!

Sorry for the delay in letting thing through the queue, but there is currently nothing but HP games in it. According to our rules, HP games get staggered so they don't overwhelm the community. Unfortunately until something else comes in the queue (please submit things non-HP!!) these ones will have to wait a bit longer. I will however, let two through at a time instead of one, in order to help clear out the queue faster.

This isn't exactly a hard and fast rule or anything, but due to the sheer amount of HP games submitting here, they will be making it through the queue a lot slower than other games. We will be staggering games so that we don't see eight HP games in a row. So this means we may have to keep your game in the queue until a non-HP game comes through. Sorry to those of you with HP games, but it's getting a bit ridiculous the sheer number of them out there, and we don't want this ad community completely overrun by them. We are holding ourselves to this as well, since we advertise our own HP game here.

We're changing our "deleting old ads rule" We will no longer be deleting old ads, for a few reasons. One, because there is enough variety and time between posts that it does not seem like the comm is being flooded. Two, we'd rather just approve posts and move along and mod our own games, than troll here and delete old ads. Three, two separate ads here have been linked as good examples of color and image usage and we will not delete them so as to leave the links up.

That said though, there is a new version of the rule:

5. Do not post more than once a week. If your ad is still on the page, please don't post it again. We will no longer be deleting old posts. Do not flood the comm with ads for your game.

Rule 2 was deleted [the rule that says no games that 'just take place somewhere']. It has come to my attention that there do exist games without a 'gimmick' per se that still fit the community's theme. Those games [like hiltonheadic] for example, are welcome here.

There are some great resources out there that need promotion, and sometimes it's hard to find a way to get the word out. Do you have a community that has resources, tutorials, and all sorts of things that help people make their RP experience that much better? Well GUESS WHAT? You can now advertise it here! Just have yourself a nice ad and a subject line, and you're good to go!

The rules [in the userinfo] have been changed accordingly!

Please remember this part of rule #4:

"...please define a descriptive subject. It makes it easier to find your post in the sidebar. Your post will be deleted after one week if you do not add a subject line. You will not be banned and can feel free to post again, with a subject."

I've been accepting posts without subjects, commenting to ask posters to go back and edit their posts with a subject. Only a handful have complied. Starting today, we're no longer accepting posts with subject lines. You won't be banned for forgetting one or anything; you'll just need to resubmit with a subject line. Any current posts with no subjects will be deleted on Nov. 1st.

You can find this in the profile page of this comm as well, but for ease's sake, I thought I'd put it here as well.

1. Allowed: blanket game ads and resource/tutorials communities. If you not sure, just ask! NOT ALLOWED: Celeb communities, Twilight RPs, games with storyline comms, PSL/wanted character requests. There are enough places for them elsewhere. End of story.

2. Games that have excess sub-communities are not what we're looking for. They tend to distract from actual ROLE-PLAYING. This is for games like the ones that existed before these sub-communities, especially storyline comms, became prevalent. We're looking for games with a main community, an ooc, and maybe an extra sub-community or two, such as for logs, plot, or media. This does not include storylines. You must have a threading community/forum and it needs to be easily found.

3. Don't be rude. This means no commenting posts insulting people or games. Commenters like that will be banned.

4. Please place the name of your game in the subject line. It makes it easier to find your post in the sidebar when we look for past posts. Your post will not be accepted if you do not add this subject line. You can feel free to post again, with a subject, but if we have to ask you to do this three times, we ask you not to post any longer and you will be removed. Rejoining to post again after this will get you banned. On that note, no one liner posts. Tell us something abut your game, not just the community name over and over or something random that has nothing to do with the game. "~gamename lol i had beans for dinner :-[" posts will not be accepted. Please no images bigger than 600px without a cut!

5. Do not post more than once a week. If your ad is still on the page, please don't post it again. We will no longer be deleting old posts. Do not flood the comm with ads for your game. You may delete your previous ad and repost only if it has been a week since your last post. Do not delete simply to repost more than once a week.

6. Please try to tag your posts. Please use the ones listed, as they're specific to the community. We'll do it for you if necessary, but it'd be easier if you do. You know what your game's about better than we do. Also, it's easier to find older posts if they're tagged properly.

Note: Any server is allowed. Here on IJ, at LJ, Scribbld, your own domains, forum sites, anything, so long as the game fits other criteria. Don't be shy about posting because your game's offsite!

FAQs:

Why hasn't my game gotten through the queue yet?
There are several reasons:
    1. We simply haven't gotten to it yet. We are busy people and have plenty other things to do.

Why was my game rejected?
We give reasons in the rejection, but it's usually because you didn't add a subject, or your game doesn't fit the criteria. Be sure to read the rules before posting.

If my ad's rejected, can I resubmit?
Sure, as long as you fix what was wrong. As in supply a subject, or whatever was missing. You cannot resubmit Twilight, celeb, or games with excessive subcomms.

Why was my ad deleted?
The most likely reason is that the ad coding was b0rked, thus screwing up the community layout. Another reason is that it was mistakenly accepted. We will comment you to let you know if your ad's being deleted, and you are free to resubmit with it corrected, if that applies.

Why was I removed/banned?
You repeatedly submitted celeb games, Twilight games, games with storyline comms, or anything else that goes against the rules. Three strikes and you're out. If you rejoin to post again, you get banned.

Why don't you accept celeb or Twilight games?
Honestly, because we don't like them and it's our prerogative what rules to lay down here. There are plenty of other ad communities out there to advertise those kinds of games. We're up front about it though so you don't waste your time submitting only to be rejected for subject matter.

I forgot to tag. Will my ad be rejected?
You don't have to tag your ad, and we won't reject you for neglecting to do so. We can do that, though it's better if you do since you know your game better than we do. Tagging your ad does get it accepted faster though, since it's less work for us to do. If you are going to tag it though, don't simply make up your own. Use the ones created for the community so there is order. If a tag you want isn't there, drop us a line here to create it. If you accidentally put the wrong one and need it removed, you can ask us to do that there too.

It's been a week since my last post but I'm still on the front page. Can I post again?
Yes, we will just delete your older ad when we go to approve the new one. We like as much diversity as possible so people can see a variety of things. Keep in mind there are only 15 entries per page so this shouldn't have to happen. Just don't submit more frequently than one a week. If you've got more than one mod, coordinate.
