10:31 am [sherkahn] [Link]	Martial Arts week: When Wolverine was a mere man My contribution to the melee... going back to the classic Wolverine in Japan story (and I hope the Wolverine writers read this and STICK to it like a religion). For those of you who to young to remember the moment before Wolverine broke out as a star and before he became a parody of himself, a little set up. Wolverine is in Japan, wooing the hand of the one woman who he loved truly and deeply: the Lady Mariko Yashida. Being the daughter of THE crime boss of all Japan and a faction of the elite ninja tribe/house, the Hand, didn't help Logan. Logan was humiliated and defeated before her by said boss with a mere wooden training sword (although he was poisoned at the time, she didn't know). But our hero picked himself up, licked his wounds, and goes to redeem his honor. Shingen disapproves, and sends the hand to terminate Logan. And this isn't God-verine, the unkillable. This was back when he was a highly trained but very mortal man. As we reach the big finale of this epic story, we come to this. Big ol ti, I mean, splash page! Besides a BA-related What If? issue, Nuke didn't make any more appearances for a while. Then he returned in the beginning of Daniel Way's Wolverine: Origins series, where we discovered his origin. 11:35 am [bluefall] [Link]	Catwoman's Origin: Also Multiple Choice (but some choices are better than others) Recently, the issue of Catwoman's origin came up. Specifically, the post-Crisis Y1 retcon that she was a prostitute, inspired by "real man" Batman to dress up like a loony and follow in his footsteps, or something; the subsequent Zero Hour retcon to something much better; and the innumerable other retcons that ignored the Zero Hour retcon in favor of Miller's take, only more XTREEM, adding rape, underaged victimization, etc etc. And since everything is more clear with scans, I thought I'd post those two different takes, so everybody can see the contrast for themselves. 10:07 pm [merseybeatler] [Link]	Why I Love Carrie Kelly, part 1 I don't like Frank Miller. I don't really even like The Dark Knight Returns. Much. Yet Carrie Kelly has been my default icon for, like, ages. Wherefore then do I like her so much? Actually, I'm not entirely sure. But what's NOT to like about her? First of all, I apologize for the quality of the scans. This is my first attempt trying to scan from a trade and I've obviously failed pretty miserably. I respect those of you who can actually accomplish it all the more now. Also, spoiler warning for those of you who haven't read TDK. ( thirteen scans and an embarassingly long rant about Girl Scouts under the cut ) Okay. That's all for now. I'm being kicked off the computer. Also: I'm kind of confused by the tagging system. Is there any database for official tags? I hope I did this right.
