Going Silently in to the Night
Small foreword before starting the post itself. I originally intended to this post back in the Martial Arts week a few weeks back, but then I was snared by the simple awesomeness of Batman: Arkham Asylum, after which I had to return to work with my vacation having ended. So this post kind of simmered away, but I still kind of wanted to do it due to several discussions I have had and read on the subject, so here it is finally happening. With that said, to the first part of the topic itself.

Martial Arts Week: Shitty comic, great fights

Chuck Dixon's 2004 Richard Dragon series was lousy, to be sure, but it definitely had one thing going for it. Scott McDaniel's art, while no one is accusing it of being pretty, has an energy and flow that fit the series like a glove and made every fight a joy to read.
As evidence, I bring you the climactic clash between Richard and Lady Shiva.

It's Not About The Answers: Behind The Mask Of Vic Sage, pt 8
A Martial Arts Week special!

O'Neil: Vic the Seeker (pt 4)
The Great Fables Crossover! (sorry Vertigo fans, not that one)

In 1988, Denny O'Neil set off to tell a great martial arts epic, and close the book on the O-Sensei, the old master introduced in Kung-Fu Fighter, responsible for teaching Richard Dragon, Bronze Tiger and Lady Shiva. While I prolly should've held this one off until after I'd posted the arc from Question v1 16-18, where Vic and Ollie first met, well, who's fault was it starting Martial Arts Week now?
But though this crossover takes place in titles starring Batman, Green Arrow and The Question,

It's Not About The Answers: Behind The Mask Of Vic Sage, pt 5
O'Neil: Vic the Seeker (pt 1)
featuring the Post-Crisis debuts of Tot, Lady Shiva and Richard Dragon!

When last we left our hero, he was brought up on charges by the Cool Quota Cops. In the two months between his appearance in Blue Beetle and the debut of his very first self-titled series, he was found by a jury of his super-cool peers guilty of hubris in the first-degree.
The sentence, carried out February 1987 by Dennis O'Neil and Denys Cowan...

No DOOM, only SIN (part 1)
Sorta continuing my previous posts of cute kids from the DCU.

I like Sin and thought there was a lot of potential in her and Dinah's relationship. I definitely hate what happened to her and the apparent reasons why. I thought I would go through Sin's brief appearance (12 issues in all) and subsequent disappearance. Warning: this post contains an amazing amount of Dinah being awesome and badass.

From issues #92-#95 of Birds of Prey (collected in TPB Vol 5: Perfect Pitch) There are a lot of scans here, but I don't go over the 7 page rule for any issue.

To Catch A Thief
So yesterday I finally sucked it up and bought Birds Of Prey: Sensei & Student despite it's gratuitous, egregious, and generally calamitous cover. Even for Greg Land, this is a bad cover. Those who haven't seen on the trade or the first time it was printed with #67, I'm not posting it, I'm not linking it, I'm not subjecting you to it. If you want to see it, it'll have to be on your own time by your own decision. I'm just here to talk about it. I'd originally decided to tear it off and burn it, but I don't keep matches anymore since I quit smoking a few weeks ago.

Help finding some Oracle art?
A few days before THE GREAT DISASTER, someone posted some pages from a comic that had really great art of Oracle. I'm fairly sure I own the comic and just hadn't read it in a long while, and I've been trying to find it now, but I don't know where to look.

I remember it being Oracle with short hair and I think the rectangle-shaped glasses. Ring any bells?

Under the cut is a picture we really need here. Behold: The Birds of Prey! )
