Cass vs. Zombies

T'was back at the end of her original series it happened, as a result of Nora Fries being chucked into a Lazarus Pit by Mr Freeze at Cass' suggestion.

Unfortunately for Victor and Cass the result was Nora becoming a flaming, nude woman with acid/resurrection powers who named herself a corny supervillainess name.

This is what happened.

Build an alchemical pit that raises the dead on a mass grave of "ethnically cleansed" people. An example of the stellar foreplanning that is Nyssa al Ghul.

Thanks for the post! So, what ultimately happened to Lazara?

She ran off with Victor chasing her, and she evidently vanished into the ether.

Presumably erased by Superboy Prime or something.

Well, it's a better fate that this I guess.I definitely prefer the Animated series bittersweet ending with Nora getting cured and Victor leaving to go live in the Arctic.

Didnt that end with Freeze coming back afterwards and then nora dying?

She remarried after a while, to the person who helped cure her, as I recall, and Victor promptly became more detached from humanity, hence his appearance in The New Batman Adventures as a head-on-legs thing, before he became sorta-human again in Batman of the Future, at which point Nora probably was dead, I think.

Why does Cass have to ask if the zombies are alive? She just wants to be super extra sure?

"Okay, there's no heartbeat and the internal organs are exposed and I can see the pelvic and hip bones, not to mention the spine, but I can't be certain they're dead. Yo, Shiva! They alive?"

Well she's never encountered Zombies before. Better to err on the side of caution.

Sides, they all might just be guys in costumes. Like they were doing all this down the road from a Scooby Doo villains convention and they all came to find out what was going on.

I think that she meant alive as in sentient or something.

Rather than mindless cannibal things.

That's not Shiva. That's ignore girlNyssa al-Ghul, moronic older sister to Talia (who was made evil by her because of stupid plots in the Batbooks) and whom we don't need to talk of, again. Ever.

Ever.

To this day I don't really understand what Rucka was trying to do with D&tM. I get that Talia had become really problematic, but that... didn't really help, and Nyssa lacked both the credibility (... yes, the... heretofore unseen other daughter of Ra's, of... course) and the hook (aka relationship with Batsy) to take her place.

Talia was awesome in the 70s.

I'd have to see it to believe it. Nyssa, on the other hand, says some incredibly interesting things to Cass in Batgirl.

Here's a hint: the DCAU Talia, who is cool and femme fatalley, was based on her appearances in the 70s (and some in the 80s).

Well I, for one, would like to see more of the quirky adventures of Victor and Nora Fries.

Bring on the supervillains trashing Gotham with their Jerry Springer-esque marital squabbles, followed by (literally) steamy make-up sex!

Half sister to Talia. Other than that, dunno. First appeared in Batman: Death of the Maidens, I think.

Yes, groomed as a replacement for Rā's al Ghūl. She only showed up in Death of the Maidens and this, and then died off-panel in Robin OYL, a victim of Cassandra's suckage.

Yeah, not the most successful villain.

Well, people have gotten most

Nyssa's mother was a Russian Jew in the late 1700s. (I don't think she was ever named in the story.) Ra's had business in Russia, wanted a bedwarmer for the freezing winter, didn't realize he'd gotten the woman pregnant before he left her.

Nyssa was 20-something when her mother died of disease. She went looking for Ra's, eventually found him, and became his apprentice for a century or so.

I've got the story Nyssa originally appeared in (Batman: Death and the Maidens), if you'd like me to post some scans from that.

That's kind of my fear when it comes to fresh zombies. Yes, they're trying to eat me, but for all I know The Virus can be cured and they could be normal again.

Unless they're horribly decayed like we see here. In that case, let's bring out the heavy weapons!

Damn I love Cass. And the cowl sans lenses and face cover looks very cool. Kinda like when Cass went out in Babs's old Batgirl costume and Robin got so distracted by her hotness he got knocked out by a thug.

If it's any consolation, you wouldn't be fighting real zombies, anyway. Despite what Hollywood says, those things ain't friggin' zombies. Zombies have nothing to do with radiation or viruses or hell spitting things out or what have you. Zombies are mindless undead servants under the thrall of a voodoo master - they do not eat brains. They do not eat anything. They're DEAD.
(Sorry, pet peeve. Anyway, a tip - if you ever DO run into some genuine zombies, and their mouths happen to be open a bit, throw some salt into them. If a zombie tastes salt, he remembers he's dead, and heads back to his grave. Word to the wise.)

She didn't. It's the same costume, but Shiva busted out her eye lenses and tore off the part covering her mouth earlier in the storyline.
