Finally back out and feeling better! Looks like I managed to catch the flu right when we got out of school. which made my seizures worse Got stuck a few days in Saint Mungos. Gotta admit that i'm fortunately getting back home and have a few days to spend my christmas money. Alice, happen to be interested in an afternoon out on the down?

It isn't a United States custom, but mum still has us drinking wassail and eating shortbread to greet the new year. For all that I've studied traditional literature, I never quite understood these traditions outside of the idea of greeting the year with something sweet.

Does anyone else have any interesting traditions?

The weekend without magic actually gave me a ton of time to work on carving out new wands. I'm finding that (from what my uncle tells me) the people that get my work enjoy the intricate decorations. Vinewood carved with actual vines, cherry blossoms on my newest cherry wand. They'll need cores, obviously, but I'll do that over break. They'll need some time to tell me which they should have.

I may or may not be considering a small ceremonial fire tonight in Slytherin where I burn the fake IDs I had that allowed me to buy cigarettes in muggle stores before today. There may or may not still be some special skittles. There may or may not be cake. Details to follow.

Allowing Professor Stark to upgrade this was probably a terrible idea. Not having to carry around my books all the time and still being able to annotate whatever I'm reading is amazing, but I don't think I've pulled myself out of those books for more than an hour or two the whole weekend.

Damn it, life sucks. Like, not 'oh poor me', but when it throws those incredibly difficult decisions at you, and makes you come to terms with your own thoughts, feelings, emotions, and you realize that you have to make this right decision. You have to. It won't completely decimate your life if you get it wrong, but it'll damage one of the few great things about your life, if you get it wrong, and that's just absolutely terrifying.

That being said, it's not all whiny posts for me today. Today, I have managed to finally finish one of my songs and when I get near a computer, I'll find someway to upload it to YouTube. Hey, Stark, maybe that's what you should invent for these journals and magical world, a magical equivalent of muggle tech. Just saying.

Also, I've eaten too many chips today.

Going from carving wands to carving flowers. I need to keep in practice for next summer, and I think I may have wiped out the library on reference books on wandlore. If you're looking for that, sorry!

It's my last day working at the shop for the summer. Almost closing time now and I'm finding that I'm going to miss it a lot during the school year. I can keep up my carving but I'm not going to be able to really make anything until at least December. It'll be a long stretch, that's for sure.

I broke my hand on a stupid Death Eater's stupid face and I can't do anything with it. I never realized how clumsy my left hand is until now. It feels like I'm trying to do everything backwards. How do people do this all the time. Does it just feel normal for them? This is dumb.

At least I don't have to stay with my mother My daddy hasn't let me out of the house since he heard about what happened in the newspaper. I think he's mad because I just told him that I got into a fight and not about the whole Death Eater attack thing. It wasn't entirely wrong and I didn't want him to worry, but now he is anyway. If they're going to find me in Reliance then they deserve to find me, honestly. I can barely find me here.

It's terrifying that all of that happened at the World cup. I'm glad that we couldn't go this year. I can't imagine if I'd been there in the attack or had gotten hurt. <s> What if I fell and hurt my head? </s>  I hope that everyone is safe and alright? Those who have family that's hurt,, they're in my prayers.

I'm a little worried to go back to school after all of this, but also excited. I've missed seeing everyone and especially my magic.

You know, I'd never thought I'd say it but I can't wait for school to start. I miss my magic and it's more and more tempting to want to try to cast something with my new Wand. Da's warned me about it, especially since he's not been in the best mood lately. He's not too happy that I brought home a new wand, but he accepted it when I told him that the shop owner had funds from the school for such a thing sometimes.

Does anyone know if we have any sort of readings to get done before classes start?

I am very much enjoying summer this year, more than normal. Having time to read and study what I want to learn- well, I suppose need to learn is more suitable- is great. School is wonderful and all but really there is a lot that I can't get there with what I intend to do with my life. Making wands is what Ollivanders do, what we've always done, and so while it's great to learn about magical creatures, I don't know that I need it outside of learning magical properties. Not that the animals are anything less than fascinating, honestly, and I think that might be among my favourite classes. Uncle is letting me work in the back this year, so I am able to create finally instead of just reciting back the qualities of the various wand woods and cores.
