Pepper had always been taught it was rude to stop by someone's place empty handed, at least until you were better acquainted. That was his excuse, at least, for the bottle of pepper-laced vodka he carried as he Apparated to Aloysius' place, having divested himself of his pie on Rufus' desk and his paperwork, carefully, in his flat. (If Jo, or someone else from the DMLE who knew about Rodolphus attacking her, was involved with The Hardy Boys, he didn't want to leave anything where they could find it.) He didn't bother bringing a copy of the Prophet; it wasn't as though he wanted to dwell on it, and it played up things he really didn't want to discuss, and it was just sort of plain morbid.

Shifting the bottle to his other hand, he knocked firmly on the door, leaning half-against the wall slightly spiritlessly as he waited for Aloysius to answer.
