certainty

who: Kai and Ronin
where: his room
when: evening

Kai had been wandering around taking more pictures, but it was eventually dark out, which she really wasn't sure when that had happened, but holy shit, there it was, dark outside. Right. She bounded back upstairs, and instead of going to her room, she headed to Ronin's, knocking on his door in the stereotypical pattern 'knock-knock knockknock knock – knock! Knock! It was only after she knocked that she realized she probably still looked like she’d lost a fight with a rose bush or several. Well, shit. She briefly entertained the idea of ding-dong-ditch, but imagined she wouldn’t get away with it. She’d only be halfway to her room by the time he opened the door…

Ronin had spent a long time immersed in music. Writing lyrics and trying things out on his travel guitar. He had his headphones on and the volume cranked up as he kind of lost his way out of the creative process and allowed himself to simply go wherever the music took him. It was how he was only vaguely aware that someone had knocked but he hadn't quite heard that there'd been a pattern to it. He figured it was Sullivan, coming to find out why he hadn't come down for that drink. No, Sullivan wouldn't come find him, he'd assume the reason Ronin didn't come down for a drink was because he'd spilled to Kai and they were in the middle of having sex because that was what people did when they confessed love to one another, right? Sigh. He didn't figure it was Kai because she hadn't been around all day so maybe it was her sister there to tell him off. He just didn't want to answer the door. The impish part of him that was always curious propelled him toward it anyway, weird little practice guitar strapped to him like a regular one would have been had it been able to fit into his luggage. He opened the door and there was Kai. He frowned slightly, confused, but then smiled. "Hey, sorry, I can keep it down," he said then frowned even more. "What the hell happened?"

Date Night

Who: Kyle and Adam
Where: The bar, their rooms
When: Evening/night

Kyle was weirdly nervous. ‘Weirdly’ because he didn’t think there was any chance that he would be badly received in his date, but still, the feeling was there. Throughout the day, it had been building - the feeling that it was of utmost importance that he made more than a good impression tonight. He wanted to leave Adam speechless, entirely floored. Kyle needed to be perfect. Nothing less was good enough.

Didn't intend is to go like this! )

So Sideways

Who: Caleb and Lindsey
When: Evening
Where: Stairwell and hall

Lindsey waited a good long time after Christer left before she left the fort. Slowly she uncurled herself and stripped herself of the over the top clothes. She donned a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt, skipping the steel toed boots for cheap canvas sneakers. She didn’t want to be by herself. She felt down. There were no kitten ears when she left her room. She took herself down the hall to the stairwell, foregoing the elevators to simply plod down the stairs. She was focused on her own feet and ignoring everything around her.

Caleb was just about to head upstairs again to knock on Lindsey's door for the second time that day. He took the stairs because he was aware that if they were stuck here for a while, taking the stairs was going to be good for exercise in the enclosed space. That and he wasn't sure he trusted an elevator that looked like it had been built over eighty years ago. When he glanced up the stairs, he saw the girl in question. “Lindsey,” he greeted.

Planning Revenge

Who: Bianca and Ivanya
When: Evening
Where: Courtyard

Bianca had had enough time since her run-in with Kennedy to calm down and then get riled up. She’d found the abandoned bottle of champagne after finding a mirror on one of the walls and ensuring her hair was, in fact, in tact. The bitch had put dried flowers or some shit in it which was why it had flaked away in her hand. She had taken herself out into the courtyard and was sitting on a bench beneath a rose bush where she could see the entire courtyard. She had finished half the bottle of champagne and she was buzzing hard both with the alcohol and the fury she felt over what had happened. Her eyes flitted around and through the roses periodically as she attempted to relax into some semblance of herself again and bemoaning the fact she’d lost her vomit-covered Jimmy Choos in the hall. She was muttering under her breath and ripping apart rose petals between her fingers, leaving them in shreds on her lap and all around her.

"Now, what the hell did those flowers ever do to you?" Ivanya asked, stepping up near the bench. She'd seen another new girl out in the courtyard and was a little pissed that she decided destroying the nice flowers was something she should do. It was really the only bit of 'outside' Ivanya got to see anymore and she certainly didn't want some entitled guest throwing their weight around, massacring the roses. "You should cut that shit out. One of them is bound to fight back before too long."

The Luxury of Daydreaming

Who: Edison & Alyssa
When: Midday
Where: The Throne Room Bar

It was a new day and she was still in the 50s style bedroom she'd gone to sleep in the night before. When nothing happened to help her get home and nothing else of note took place other than meeting Sullivan which was definitely a highlight, she had resigned herself to the fact she had no control over the situation and would simply have to ride it out. It was tempting to let it frustrate her but that was a waste of energy. Instead she ate the breakfast on the room service tray, indulging a little in some butter on her toast and a sugar cube in her tea. She wouldn't let it tug at her and make her feel guilty either, she decided.

Then she took herself downstairs to the lovely ballroom she'd seen. She'd put on gray tights and a gray leotard and tied a soft white wrap skirt around her middle. Her white slippers weren't on her feet until she got to the ballroom and sat to tie them on. Once she was all set, she slid a CD of Tchaikovsky into her laptop and began warm ups, one hand on a rail that surrounded part of the dance floor. And promptly lost herself in dancing, cleansing her mind of the frustrations and fears surrounding being trapped in this place.

Edison had talked to Ella for a while wandering with her before splitting off and letting his own mind take him where it wanted. The music caught his attention, something he hadn't heard before, which meant he was following it, ducking into the ballroom. Seeing her there, that slowed him completely, leaning against the wall and watching. For all his knowledge on other things, he didn't know a thing about ballet beyond tights, tutus and shoes. And beautiful women apparently. So sure, most guys wouldn't care about the stories or the whatever drew women to the ballet, but he knew standing here watching her dance, that he liked this much at least.

We are on things that make us smile. Though that salad made your list is weird. )

Twenty Questions

Who: Edison and Ella
Where: Outside his room then around the hotel
When: late morning

Edison had really enjoyed talking to Kennedy and despite the weird waking up in the hotel that didn’t make sense, things weren’t really as bad as they could be. He’d not slept much just an hour or two, passing time on his computer, reading through things to show Kennedy at a later point, things that she might deem interesting and he was awake when he heard breakfast arrive. That itself wasn’t a bad deal and he brought it in to munch on food before getting dressed and deciding to head out again. He packed his laptop, wanting to have it on hand if he happened to run into Kennedy, but his real goal was to explore the hotel, really take it in and see what he could learn from it.

Ella wasn’t pleased about waking up yet again in the hotel, but at least she didn’t have a nightmare that night. She felt a little unsure about her safety, even though nothing had happened to threaten her well being. Nothing out of the ordinary had happened to her during her stay thus far other than the issues she had with her phone the day before. She was still waiting for the right moment to try one of the doors leading outside to see what part of the hotel it would lead her to.

After eating her breakfast she grabbed her things and headed out of her room to explore. She was browsing some of the games she had on her phone when it slipped out of her hands and broke into a few pieces. Ella muttered some profanity under her breath as she gathered the battery, sim card, the back of the phone and started to put the pieces back together. “Stupid phone, stupid lotion,” she said as she kneeled on the floor outside of the door her phone had broken in front of. She didn’t stop to think about it. She just needed her phone working again.

Improv, Live at the Regent

Who: Bianca and Kennedy
When: Afternoon into Early Evening
Where: First floor alcove of sorts

Bianca had passed the freak in the lobby making a huge ass mess with the cushions from the couches, tossing her a look that said that was exactly what she was thinking of the girl. To which the kitten-eared fool had giggled. Maybe the alcohol had her face not behaving properly. Maybe there was no bite to her bitch. That made all the more reason for her to have listened to Mickey and not had more to drink. She ditched the bottle on a table with a vase full of cut flowers and headed onward. She wasn’t sure where she was going but she ended up in some strange little alcove that seemed off the beaten track. There was an arrangement of furniture that looked like it had once been a smoker’s corner or something. One could also probably use it to play cards as there was a round table in the center of the plush chairs and loveseats.

“How cozy,” she deadpanned and dropped down onto a loveseat. She just needed to close her eyes for a moment and she sure as hell wasn’t going back to that nasty room she’d woke up in. Especially not when she herself had randomly walked into a stranger’s room. She didn’t need any strangers walking into her room while she slept. That she was pulling her legs up beneath her and falling asleep in public and that there was pure and utter irony to that? Well it didn’t cross her mind and soon she was snoring softly, out for over an hour at the very least.

After wandering aimlessly in the basement trying to find her way out of the goddamn labyrinth that was down there, she eventually was back up into the hotel. She had opted to wander around, and had gone back up to the top floor to release the elevator from where she'd stuck it, not planning on a second jump down the elevator shaft today. After a while, she found herself coming upon a little area that was set up like a lounge, or something, and some chick sleeping on one of the chairs. So, Kennedy did what she did best. Improvised.

Big Boy Panties

Who: Ronin (narrative)
When: Early Afternoon
Where: Kai's door

He'd left Sullivan to go try to talk to Kai which seemed like the most important thing to him then. So he'd stood outside her door for a while. Knocking. Wondering. Imagining. Apparently she was either not home or she was not interested in talking to him. He hoped it was the former but he was left wondering when she didn't answer. There was nothing for it really but to go back to his own room. He'd done what he'd set out to do. Pull up his big boy panties and try to work things out with her but she wasn't there. If she wasn't there and hadn't come to his room it seemed pretty clear she didn't want to see him. So Ronin took himself back inside the closed door. Maybe it was just time to do music or something. He was definitely not up for facing his brother at the bar. Music it was.

thorns

who: Kai and Mickey
where: the coutyard
when: late afternoon

Kai had been walking around the hotel for most of her day, being solitary. She was still spinning her wheels over everything, but she came up with no answers. So, she was losing herself in photography. She was taking frame after frame of the wild garden, climbing into the foliage to get angles she liked. There were light little scratches all over her arms and legs, and two on her cheek from the thorns on the roses, but she was happy to be drifting into that place she loved, that place where she caught fragments of the world. Just a fraction of a second, immortalized.

Mickey had taken his bag back to his room since he didn't seem to be going anywhere any time soon. There was no point in staying his room, which meant he went wandering a little and considered himself lucky when he found the courtyard. Sure plants weren't really his thing, but this was a nice change of pace from the hotel itself. He heard the rustling before her saw her, eventually he did spot her, buried in the plants and he couldn't help but smile. "Are you a woodland sort of creature or just stuck?"

Don't you 'son' me, Asshole

Who: Ronin and Sullivan
Where: Hallway outside their rooms
When: Late morning

Ronin had spent a little bit of time in his room, eating the food that had been left on a tray outside his door. He showered, got dressed, and thought about going back to Kai’s room. He really wanted to see her again. He needed to figure out exactly what had happened last night. He knew what things had been done and said, but what did it mean for them? He sort of dawdled, thinking maybe she’d come to him first. But he was the man. He should man up and take the first step. He took a deep breath, prepared himself for possible weirdness, and stepped out into the hall, turning quickly to lock his door behind him.

At the same time, Sullivan was stepping out into the hallway as he adjusted his tie. He didn’t really have a plan other than to possibly try and find a way out of this place, but he was stunned to see Ronin there. He did a double-take before actually saying anything, trying to make sure that he wasn’t seeing things. “...So you’re here too, huh?”

Preferences?

Who: Chase and Norman
Where: The ballroom
When: late afternoon

Chase had no idea where he was. it was lovely wherever it was, but it was not where he’d gone to sleep. He was amused at how damn elegant the whole hotel was, and he’d wandered around it for a while, taking it all in, perfectly put together and feeling like he could belong in a place like this. Just so long as Antonio didn’t get his eyes on it. Then it would be some awful throwback porn set. But Chase pushed that out of his mind, wandering through the ball room, taking in the chandeliers and the sloping ceilings.

Mergers and Acquisitions

Who: Mai and Ash
Where: Courtyard, his room
When: Late afternoon
Warning - NSFW

There was no doubt in her mind, Mai had Ash in mind the entire time she got ready. Yes, she’d considered her sister and Ronin and what that might mean and hoping that things were fine there and she wouldn’t be putting up with a heartbroken Kai. There was no need for Kai to be heartbroken. Ronin wouldn’t let her down. But that was nothing compared to the way Ash had dominated her thoughts. In the morning, she was thinking more of what he was, who he was. If everything he’d told her was true, he was a big deal. A real one. And one that liked her. It had her nervous, and going through most of her suitcase before finding the right dress, something short and flirty in a light floral, flattering on her frame and perfect with a looser hairstyle. Her makeup was done, her hair curled all of it, and she draped a loose cardigan over it, giving the whole thing sort of a dreamy look or so she hoped.

She started heading towards his room, but he didn’t answer when she knocked. Mai was confused about where to go from there, but she wound up heading down towards the lobby, exploring the hotel slowly until she found the courtyard, surprised by the room as a whole. She wondered if Kai had seen this place yet. This would be right up her alley.

Won't Let You Be Boring

Who: Adam and Kennedy
Where: Around the hotel
When: afternoon

Kennedy had been wandering around, but that got old fast and she was bored. She tried to leave a few times, but only wound up spit out somewhere else in the hotel, and sadly, nowhere all that fascinating. She'd found the courtyard, however, and was sitting on one of the benches, painting her toenails bright red.

Adam had gone through an entire game of Magic with Norman and he was pretty sure he still didn’t understand it any, but he did try. After a while he managed to get away, but still had too many hours before he was supposed to meet Kyle, which led him back to the lobby, wandering around until he found a door he hadn’t tried and wound up in the courtyard. It was overwhelming at first, the roses, the overgrown feeling of it, like something out of a movie or a book, and he didn’t even notice the other person there as he walked around, one hand rubbing the back of his neck while he looked up, taking in all of it.

Curiosity

Who: Lindsey and Ivanya, later Christer
Where: Lobby
When: Late Afternoon

Lindsey had wait for quite a while after Christer tried the front door and disappeared. So long that she started hearing her tummy growl. Either he'd really been the one who was going to get them out of here or he'd found somewhere else to be. Whichever it was, she couldn't stay in the lobby anymore. She'd gone upstairs to her room, ordered food, and eaten it without really tasting it much. She probably couldn't have said what she'd even eaten once she'd grabbed her laptop and brought it back down to the lobby. Just for good measure too, she'd put on kitty ears and drawn whiskers on her face for the shits and giggles. She opened the laptop, started up Spotify, and danced around the lobby to the likes of Feed Me, Diplo, and deadmau5 as she pulled all the cushions off all the couches and put them in a pile. She made sure to turn the volume up pretty loudly to annoy Sally at the front desk as she set about to make the fort by herself since Christer didn't seem to be coming back.

Dodging a Bullet

Who: Mickey and Bianca
When: Afternoon
Where: The Throne Room Bar

Bianca had been at the bar for half an hour now. She was soused. She was only on her second glass of champagne but she had always been a light weight and the fact that her blood was pumping hard and fast with fury helped get the alcohol into her system faster. She was busy unloading on Joe the bartender. Not that he seemed to mind.

“I’m serious. If they think they can just use me and then tear me into little pieces and toss me into the wind, they’ve got another thing coming. Bianca van der Noorden does not go down without a fight. No way, bucko.”

To which Joe said, “There was a young girl in here a little while ago. She was a beautiful dancer.” And continued wiping down the bar.

Bianca raised one finger from the hand that held her glass. “Exactly my point. Where do they come up with these beautiful dancers? It’s like they’re everywhere! I swear, nobody fucking cares about actresses anymore. It’s the dancers and the models they want. Well, you know what? I’m going to kiss the first man who walks in here. You watch, I’ll do it. And then I’ll tell him I’m a dancer and we’ll fuck like bunnies the way god intended it.”

The whole concept of waking up somewhere he didn't belong was jarring. The bag packed with his things didn't help matters. He didn't think he'd gotten evicted, and was pretty sure if he had the hotel he would have wound up at wouldn't be this nice, but he didn't have much else in the way of answers. And it took him a good while before he'd come to some sort of terms with it. Then the most logical answer was to try and leave. Only walking out the front door hadn't led Mickey out of the hotel. Instead it dropped him and his bag in a ballroom. Or that was what he guessed you called it. He'd never been in such a place and instantly felt out of place in his jeans and t-shirt. He looked behind him, seeing normal doors and not the ones he'd tried to leave from. What the hell?

Sisterly Gossip

Who: Mai and Kai
Where: Kai's room
When: Late morning

Mai had taken long enough to brush her teeth and hair, but then the anticipation was killing her and she was headed out of the room again back across the hall. Breakfast had been left and she grabbed her tray, noting that most of it she couldn’t eat, but Kai could. She knocked on her sister’s door loudly, then eyed the food, wishing there was more she could eat. That was unfair.

I Think I Have A Lot To OFfer A Man Like You

Who: Ash and Bianca
Where: The elevator
When: Early afternoon

Ash was thinking about Mai and sort of absently wandering down the hall outside his room toward the elevators. He was trying to decide what he felt like doing. He had a planning notebook and his laptop under his arm. He really needed to get out of his room; he wanted to see what Mai was doing. He needed to get work done. He pushed the button and stepped into the elevator. He settled against the back wall after pushing the button for the lobby. He’d work first and then go see Mai. There was only a brief sensation of going down when the car stopped and the doors opened again. They almost began to close again when Ash heard a shriek of frustration outside them.

“Oh my fucking… hold the fucking door, please!” Bianca demanded loudly. She’d been fast walking down the hall away from Kyle’s room with her suitcase rocking on its wheels behind her. She’d been about to pull the case into the elevator when it had toppled, pulling her wrist at a slightly painful angle and holding her back. Which just added to her aggressive frustration. She almost kicked the elevator doors but Ash had managed to push the button to send the doors open again.

Not Where He Planned to Be

Who: Christer and Open
Where: Someone's Room
When: afternoon

At Lindsey's suggestion, Christer tried the door out of the hotel, hoping he'd wind up outside of it. She'd said he could be the one the one to get out and to get them help. It was all the motivation he needed. Only when he went through the door, Christer felt weird at first and then he was blinking, staring at somewhere that definitely wasn't outside of the hotel. No he was standing in another room, one he was sure wasn't his.
