Can you tell me more about this suitcase deal?
Each character is allowed a suitcase, bag, or other satchel, and only one. All personal items must be able to fit in the chosen bag. This bag is a reflection of the character, so if your character is a meticulous packer, their bag will most likely be expertly packed. If your character doesn’t care about packing, their bag will probably just have their items simply tossed into it. If you have any questions regarding appropriate items, please don’t hesitate to contact a mod.
Can I play a member of The Regent staff?
While you can feel free to play a member of The Regent staff, there are a few stipulations you should be aware of.
Any staff members of The Regent Hotel are unable to participate in external plots. What this means is that if you choose to play a member of The Regent Staff, your character will not be joining The Regent’s guests on the plots that take them away from the hotel. Essentially, hotel staff members are extensions of the hotel itself, so leaving the hotel at all is not possible.
You cannot play a managerial member of the staff or higher.
Please check The Regent Hotel for information on current staff members. Please try to create characters that are not already represented in the staff.
You cannot adopt any Regent Staff listed under The Staff list. Those characters are considered NPCs, and while anyone can use them in scenes, they can’t be officially picked up.
How did my character arrive at The Regent?
There are two options for how characters arrive at the hotel. The first, which is most applicable for characters that come out of other scenarios, is that the characters just wake up in their rooms. They have been pulled from whatever point in their lives, and wound up waking up in a new bed in the hotel with their packed suitcase in the room. The other option is that the character could be traveling and stopped for the night at the hotel (the location of which can vary as needed), and finds themselves stuck. Think Hotel California.
Is there a map for The Regent?
No. The hotel has a bit of a malleable geography. Any public areas may not be quite where you expect them to be.
What happens if my character tries to leave The Regent?
They will walk into a random room in the hotel, including people's private rooms. If they walk through with another person behind them, you can decide if they both wind up in the same place or in totally different areas of the hotel!
What about contact with the outside? Can my character make a phone call or send an email?
Mostly no. There’s no contact with the outside. If your character ends up with their phone in the hotel, calling out will just ring and ring (remember the days before answering machines?) and no one will ever pick up. Same with emails. Send just send it into a void. That said, another character could call a character in the hotel with them and it would work. Characters can also access a sort of ‘intranet’ which means messaging one another, posting on public message boards, and some basic web search options.
Can I play a character from a different time/etc?
Initial character submissions are preferred from a modern day era, however character submissions for any other era will be considered and responded to!
Can I play a character for just one scenario?
Sure! With the various scenarios we’ll always need new characters to interact with the intrepid adventurers, so feel free to have a cowboy for just an Old West scenario and only keep them for that chapter.
Will the supernatural be involved?
While we don’t see the possibility of werewolves or vampires, there are Talismans which give the holder different abilities, some of which can be supernatural-esque.
Does my character have to have a talisman?
No. If you want your character to be without any extra perks, that’s totally fine.
What about steampunk? Monsters? Brain Devouring Space Alien Gods?
Sure! You make a good argument for it we’ll consider it. The fun of the different scenarios is that we have lots of options to try out different things a the mood or interest strikes.
