No Place Like Not-Home

Who: Chase and Kyle, Chase Kyle and Adam, Kyle and Adam
Where: Round the hotel
When: Morning

The last place that Kyle expected to be when he woke up that morning was his bed back in the hotel. It was disorientating, to say the least. For the first few moments, he had no idea where he was - only when he caught sight of the ripped pages of abandoned drawings by the side of the bed did everything come slamming back. He sat bolt up in bed, looking round the room. He was back. He wasn’t going to get lynched and burned at the stake or anything horrible like that. The relief was overwhelming - right up until the moment that it clicked in that he was alone. He scrambled out of bed, throwing on jeans and a shirt. He needed to go check on the others, make sure everyone made it back okay.

Who: Ella and Tierney
Where: The Regent Hotel
When: Around noon

When Ella woke up in her hotel room she was both relieved and annoyed. She was relieved to be in familiar surroundings again, but annoyed because she still didn't have her freedom, which meant she wouldn't be seeing her family any time soon. A part of her was starting to really enjoy Lavel, especially because she could walk around and explore as she pleased and she had been yanked away from it all so suddenly. Now that she was back in the hotel she was stuck there with no way of escaping and there was nothing she could do to change that. She considered complaining to management again, but she knew that didn't get her far last time. She was convinced it wouldn't get her far this time. In fact, the only thing she would accomplish was to get herself pissed off which was an emotion she wasn't in the mood to feel right now.

Since a lot happened while in Lavel she was going especially slow that morning. She took her time waking up and slept in for as long as possible, eventually rolling out of bed for breakfast then rolling back into bed to get more shut eye. It wasn't until roughly eleven forty-five in the morning that she woke up for good and hopped in the shower. As she was brushing her teeth while waiting for the conditioner to soak into her hair she heard laughter. She finished up her brushing, rinsed her hair out and peeked out of her shower. "Hello?" she called. The laughter continued. It was children's laughter and it caused her to end her shower then and there. She exited the bathroom and found an outfit to wear quickly. The laughter sounded like it was coming from the room next door. She wondered why there would be children in this hotel. She knocked on the door to the room next to hers, but no one was answering the door. She couldn't stop herself from asking out loud, "What's going on around here?"

for the birds

who: Autumn and Adam
where: around Adam's room
when: early morning

Adam rolled over the moment he woke up, reaching for Kyle, but not finding him there. Instead it was just an empty bed. At first he thought he was home, back in his apartment, but after blinking a couple of times he found himself in the hotel. That wasn’t exactly ideal, home would probably be better, but at least it would be easier to find the person he was reaching for. Adam sat up, ruffling his bedhead until he spotted the raven staring at him from the bedpost. He yelped, not remembering that decoration and the bird moved and Adam made an embarrassing noise as he tried to scramble away from the thing. He wound up falling off the bed with a thud, grabbing at his pants and dashing for the door. He needed to find someone to get the live bird out of his room. Shutting the door behind him, pants half on, shirt left behind in the room, back against his door. There had to be some sort of facilities people right? The bed was made sometimes. It was a weird hotel, but it was still a hotel. He just caught his breath when the bird cawed at him from where it was sitting on a light fixture, watching him. And Adam made that same noise again, jumping out of his skin.

Foolish Missions in Horrid Places

Who: Finn and Norman
Where: Norman's Room
When: late morning

Norman was scared. Maybe scared was an understatement. Maybe crazy was the real word. He had his hands clutching the inside of his blue cloak to his chest as he walked, maybe with more purpose than before, through the halls of the hotel. He didn’t know where he needed to go, but he knew he needed to get away from these terrible footsteps. Every time he turned around they stopped, but as soon as he started walking again so did those other footsteps. And he was scared. Really scared. Hurrying more, he turned a corner quicker and more hastily than he would normally have in effort to find somewhere safe and without these footsteps.

Seeing and Hearing Things

Who: Edison and Kennedy
Where: The Hotel (her room)
When: Morning

Edison woke up back in his bed. That was the best part. It wasn’t really his bed, but after the medieval times? The bed was a god send. For the first few minutes after waking he didn’t move. The bed was comfortable, a step above sleeping on the floor like he had be. Nothing was trying to attack him. It was calm almost. At least until the screaming started. It was distant, but he could hear it. Someone was screaming. He sat up, looking around the hotel room that looked exactly like it had when he left it. There was nothing out of order, nothing that said someone should be screaming, but he felt like he needed to look into it. Sure, he’d seen enough horror films to know that he shouldn’t, but it wasn’t stopping and the pull was too much to ignore. He changed quickly, dragging his fingers through his hair and heading into the hallway to see if the screaming was there too.

Kennedy's morning started out okay. She seemed to have slept well, and the second she realized she was back in the hotel, she showered. She still looked like shit from the animal attacks and all that, but a shower was glorious. Or, it was right up until her vision sparked and she saw blood running down the walls of the stall. She jolted and stumbled back, losing her footing. She dumped herself out of the shower entirely, landing on her ass in the bathroom. Blinking, she stared, but...yeah, no blood. Just a shower. She squeezed her eyes shut, wondered if maybe she was cracking up, then wrote it off as stupidity on her part. She got back in the shower and quickly finished up. She got herself ready for the day – which in this case included a pj outfit, because after the last few days 'lazy' was the way to go.

Walking out into the hall, she screamed, seeing blood everywhere. The floor was soaked, the walls were splattered, drips even fell from the light fixtures above her head and she quickly reached up to wipe her cheek, where she swore she even felt it drip onto her face.

Who: Tierney and Christer
Where: The Regent Hotel
When: Morning

While she'd had no idea how she had gotten back here, Tierney was secretly relieved to wake up in that damn hotel room again. She would have prefered to wake up back home, but this was a slight improvement from that weird medival place she'd been the last couple of days. Sitting up in bed, she looked around the room to get her bearings. It was only a moment or two before she jumped up and hurried to her bag to dig through it. Pulling out a large plastic bag, she began removing numerous little orange precription bottles, carefully lining them on the floor in front of her. After checking the label of each, she then went though each, counting the pills in each container as she mumbled to herself.

So concerned with the medications, it took a moment before she noticed the shadow cast on the ground, hoving over her. Startled, she jumped slightly and looked behind her. Spotting the faceless, suited figure, Tierney frowned and hastily put her things away, pocketing a handful of different colored and shaped pills. "Who the hell are you?" Getting no response, and feeling uneasy at being watched, she stood and hurried out of her room. She needed to take her medication and doing it on an empty stomach was definitely a bad idea. Hopefully she could kill a few birds with one stone: lose this creeper following her, score a snack, and get back onto her med schedule sooner rather than later.

CHAPTER THREE - DAY ONE

Events

Today, people wake up back in their hotel rooms, though there is a strange door in the basement shaped like a castle door from Lavel. It leads back to that kingdom. While the day is normal in most respects, it isn't for everyone...

Tierney is followed by a shadow. It's of a tall person, in a suit, though male/female is difficult to determine. It's head is rounded and seems to contain no features, or at least, none that cast a good enough shadow to tell. No one is seen following her around, just the shadow is cast, always as if there is someone standing behind her.

Ella hears laughter today. It's children's laughter, and always just a bend ahead in corridors, or just in the next room of the one she's currently in. There doesn't appear to be any children around to be laughing, but it's most certainly something Ella can hear.

Maize is plagued by power issues today. Everywhere she goes, the lights/electricity will flicker. They will return to normal when she isn't in the vicinity, but the effect is definitely following her around.

Adam is followed by a crow today. Even if killed, the bird will shake it off, and continue it's pursuit.

Finn feels an intense dread before entering or leaving any room, or before turning down a hallway. It's inexplicable, has no source he can pinpoint, but it's very clearly there.

Christer hears dramatic, scary music everwhere he goes, before any action he takes. His life now has the soundtrack of a horror film.

Edison can hear distant screams for help any time he's been someplace for longer than five minutes. The screams are always distant, he can never catch up to the source.

Norman hears footsteps behind him everywhere he goes today. No one is there, but the footsteps are loud and clear.

Kennedy has hallucinations today. Occasional flashes of blood splattering the walls appear, and anyone she sees she will have flashes of them being messily dead.

Autumn seems to be haunted today. Doors shut behind her even if no one shut it, objects move just beyond her reach, etc.

Not the Leading Man

Who: Marian and Caleb
When: Morning
Where: Tournament Grounds

She’d spent the night in the castle like he told her, but it wasn’t exactly any better inside, what with wolves and birds and rabid chipmunks or something storming the banquet hall, but things had eventually calmed enough that there was something other to do than be scared. She’d set to work the moment someone would let her, helping with the hurt, the wounded, trying to get them what they needed. All the while she’d asked questions, listened to stories, picked up bits and pieces of information here and there. A witch had attacked they said. That the animals rampaging was her fault. It sounded ridiculous, but at the same time, what Marian had seen wasn’t normal.

All the while she watched the door for him. She assumed he’d be next. He’d said he would come back, he’d all but promised, but again and again he wasn’t there. She waited until dawn, barely sleeping, but as the others started to leave, started to find safety outside, to pull the tournament back together, Marian went with them. Her dress was stained with blood, none of it hers, but there nonetheless from helping out, her arms flaking a little bit of dried blood here and there as well. She hadn’t slept which meant dark circles under her eyes and her hair far more wild than it had been the night before. She looked a mess, but she had one goal, searching through the people for him, determined to find him.

the black knight and the witch

Who: Brett and Eris
Where: his place
When: morning

Brett hadn’t slept all night. He couldn’t believe that he had actually kidnapped a girl from the King’s jail last night. For all that he had no love for the ruler of Lavel, it was still a pretty stupid, if not fatal, move for him to make. Yet here he was, sat in the mouth of the basic, yet cosy cave that served as his home these days, keeping watch over a probably dying woman as the sun rose on a day that he was expected to spend fighting others.

There was a laundry list of reasons why this was a Very Bad Plan.

Manipulation

Who: Kyle and Adam
Where: Their tent
When: Morning

Kyle pounded out all of his frustrations on the cart rim the blacksmith had him mending, pounding the strip of metal as if it was personally responsible for the fact he'd barely slept overnight, and that he was pretty sure his boyfriend was pissed off with him right now. Kyle had never been particularly good with dealing with issues and he had fallen back into old habits: he had thrown himself into work. He would have stayed at it all day as well, if the blacksmith hadn't pulled him to one side and indicated that Kyle needed to stop before he fell down, plus he was ruining the cart rim rather than mending it.

Banished from the forge, Kyle made his way back to their tent, wondering what he would find.

Adam hadn't gone looking for Kyle right after talking to Kennedy. He wanted to, but he knew Kyle was at work and really he needed to process things, what Kennedy had said, before he started spouting off questions or accusations. Not that he was going to accuse Kyle of anything, but at the same time Adam was worried. Had Kyle only wanted him because he didn't trust him not to sleep with Kennedy? Had that really been all it was? Professions of how much he cared about Adam, about how Adam was his everything and at the same time, was Kyle still trying to keep him from making his own decisions about things? And was Adam that girl that falls for the first guy who sticks around in the morning?

Let Me Make It Up To You

Who: Chase and Justin
When: Late morning
Where: Their tent

Chase knew there was a conversation coming. He'd seen that look in Justin's eyes when he made his way to him the night before, knowing that his tiny little scheme hadn't worked as expected and he was going to hear it. He had already been thinking of ways to make it up to him, but then all hell had broken loose and they'd been focused on not dying because of rampaging wolves and birds and chipmunks of satan. The only reason Chase had made it out without major injuries was Justin, which had him lingering closer to the man the next morning, the tiny crush pushed into something bigger with the display of heroics.

not a great morning

Who: Adam and Kennedy
Where: near the tournament grounds
When: morning

The night, while it had initially been okay, turned out to suck hard, sweaty donkey balls. She had wound up being attacked by various animals, though the worst was the fox. It was bigger than the other ones, and shit its bite hurt. The second most awful was the bird, she didn’t know what kind it was, but she had scratches all over her face and peck wounds on her scalp hidden by her hair. She knew she was lucky she kept her eyes.

So, she was having a shit day. And fuckers were continuing the damn tournament. Normally she had a real hard time giving a shit about much of anything, but seeing that she certainly wasn’t the only one who had a shit night...it was dumb. People were bandaged up while trying to wear fancy clothes, and what the shit. She was seated a ways away from the action, glaring daggers at the tournament while she considered making an attempt to shut it down.

Adam had spent the night in the blacksmith’s forge with Kyle and a few others he’d managed to grab and drag back into the forge with him. There were enough of them that Kyle had decided to spend what part of the night people were sleeping on the other side of the place from him which had left both of them anxious. By the time it was morning and things were calmer, he was working through their trampled tent and pulling what was functioning out, trying to get their money together to see if he could get what he needed to fix the tent.

It was a shock that the tournament was still going on, that vendors were trying to make do with trampled and damaged stalls. He was wandering through them until he slowed, seeing a familiar figure. Heading her way he frowned. “You okay? That’s one hell of a look.”

CHAPTER TWO - DAY 3: The Final Tournament

In the aftermath of the animal attacks from the previous night, the whole of the kingdom is shaken. All anyone can talk about is the witch and her attack on the townspeople. Several people died before the animals were contained or returned to their natural state, leaving the kingdom wondering if things should go forward in the first place or if the tournament should be canceled.

The King had pushed to start the final round of the tournament nonetheless, so close to finishing and under a guise of needing to move on and not be held back by such tragedy, the tournament starts again, just slightly delayed. As a result the competition starts around midday and runs into the evening when the final victor is crowned. As the tournament draws to an end, so does the day

All the residents of the Regent, both new and old, will return to their hotel rooms for the next game day, with everything that they had on their person at the conclusion of the tournament, all theirs to keep.

The Set Up

Who: Justin, Chase, then Kennedy
Where: the banquet
When: evening

As much as Chase really didn't want to push Justin's attention somewhere else, he'd promised Kyle and it was matter of love versus a crush that was clearly going nowhere and even less places considering Chase wasn't usually the type to act on a crush. So when Justin seemed to have a break in his banquet action he found a space next to him with a smile, refilling his wine glass. "You looked great out there today. And definitely caught the attention of more than one lady."

when: during the attack

Autumn had been having a freaking awesome time at the festivities, right up until everything went to hell in a handbasket in, like, no time at all. She was herded along with a group of other ladies back into the castle as quickly as possible, and Autumn spotted Mazie in the crowd. She ran over to grab her and pull her along with the others. She would have grabbed anyone else she recognized too, but Mazie was it for the moment.

Mazie had been just fine, happily chomping on the ends of another turkey let, but what she hadn't expected was that hoard of chipmunks to go ballistic and attack her. She was littered with scratches and small bites when Autumn grabbed her and she didn't protest against the grabbing, just the monsters that were attacking her. "Fuck you, chipmunk bullshits!"

Who: Adam and Kyle
When: Evening
Where: Their Tent

Adam had just barely survived the second match with the giant knight. He'd been faster yes, but it turned out that it was more like 'fast enough to not get killed' instead of fast enough to win. Out of the tournament, he'd slunk back to the tent alone. There he peeled out of his clothes and was doing his best to clean and wrap a cut on his bicep. It wasn't terribly deep but it would definitely scar. He was peppered with bruises too, red marks that were starting to sink to purple, but he wasn't focused on those. Not yet.
