I understand now why guys have babies.

I take Ace down to the beach for a few hours, just us guys hanging in our board shorts and no shirts. We're there barely 10 minutes, and these girls just come out of the woodwork. And they're there for ACE. Holy Lord, it was a thing of beauty watching my son flirt with the ladies.

Disclaimer: In no way could this be construed as me flirting with a woman other than my wife. Just pointing out the awesomeness that is Ace. If any of you single guys want to borrow him, be my guest. Be prepared to face disappointment when that brunette in the teal g-string goes for Ace and not you.

Random nights I just miss being a kid like I was last summer. I don't regret what I have. I just miss that lack of routine.

A year and two days ago six tests spelled it out for me.

Six months ago people yelled 'harpoon the whale' whenever I was on the beach.

Tomorrow, my son will be four months old. Eight months away from celebrating his first birthday.

Where has the time gone? A year and three days ago the craziest thing I had going for me was that stupid wedding and those stupid drinks and that stupid arrest thanks to Lassie.

Time's just flying. It's almost been a year since we went to my cousin's wedding on that cruise and I got drunk on those banana rum things.

It's just days from the point where I found out I was pregnant with Ace.

Inglorious Basterds wasn't bad. It's Tarantino, so death scenes had a tendency to be retch-inducing, but it was really interesting and Brad Pitt was actually pretty good. So if anyone's thinking of going to see it, you have my opinion on it.

Ace is gonna be four months old in just a couple of weeks. He's getting pretty good at holding himself up a little on his arms when he's on his belly, but it doesn't last long. Pretty soon he's gonna be crawling and stuff. The time flies.

Josef, tomorrow is out one year anniversary of falling out. We should all get together and have drinks or something. Too bad Sarah isn't here to see this.

So the other day I was... uh.. kind of working my way through this equation in which I had to arrive at an answer to reconcile the rate at which Ancient technology interacts with the plain old spark-fuel combustion engine -- you would be amazed at how volatile unleaded gasoline is with naquadah when combined under the right circumstances... said circumstances still to be determined when they are right -- and mostly trying to work out this equation so the car I'm trying to modify doesn't explode when the driver presses on the gas pedal, because that isn't really helpful to the whole experiment. You know, when your driver and test subject explode.

Um. So. Ah, yes, I was speaking of toasters.

I replaced the electric coil in the toaster -- the heating element -- with a thin wire of naquadah and spliced in a crystal about the size of Rajani's pinky nail and now... Well, I have created a toaster that responds just like the jumpers respond... to the gene therapy and those that are lucky enough to have the correct gene sequence. I mean, seriously, it's like comparing playing craps to ... I don't know.. sudoku? One is a game of chance and the other is thought-provoking and takes skill.

I'm off subject again. This toaster that pretty much reads your basic desire for toast and responds accordingly. Light, burned, just warmed, whatever your toast wants may be. I kinda did the same thing with the godboxes, as far as Gigi would allow me to mess with her creations, and again let me state that if anyone wants any kind of modification to their godbox I can certainly do that. Rajani calls it "pimping them out", and yeah, I guess.. uh, that's a colloquial way of putting it.

And now I'm going to create the world's most perfect BLT made with Ancient technology. And a beer. Before I get back to that damn equation where I can pinpoint exactly the rate of burn to save some guy from exploding in a silver Altima.

Ace man had a checkup, he's fantastic. Was happy not to get poked today. Didn't seem to mind the stethoscope at all. Gave the cute nurse a big grin and further proved, he is his father's son.
