FRIDAY! GUESTS!
![]() Sturgis had never been very good at surprises, but he was an excellent secret-keeper. Even when the secret was one of the most exciting of his life. It was later on in the afternoon of what had supposed to have just been an engagement party, and now that they were stuffed with waffles, bacon, and good cheer, he finally got to spend a moment alone with his wife. Wife! Surprise! How could he feel so different, but entirely the same? He was a husband, now, but it felt like not a thing between him and Nellie had changed. Like nothing, but then everything---! It was a strange, wonderful, daunting, excellent feeling, and Sturgis was glad that she had pulled him away from the gathering. His thoughts were running wild, with how bewildering the whole day had been. He gripped her hand tightly as they descended the stairs toward the small pool that had frozen over. The sounds of the party softened, and the sounds of nature filtered between their breath and footsteps. Sturgis looked down at Nellie, his love, his bride, his wife, and let go of her hand only to run his palms up and down her arms. He knew there were warming spells, but... "Are you cold?" he asked, shoulders already shrugging to remove his jacket. |
