01:12 pm [fleeting_feet] [Link]	Barda needs a diversion I managed to get my hands on scans from the Justice League Unlimited series that ran for a short while. While thumbing through it, they apparently did special shorts at the end of some of the issues. One of these shorts was one with Mister Miracle and the Slab. added: This was found in the back of Issue #3 of Justice League Unlimited and the title of the short is "Escape from the Slab". This is a cute story, but what cracked me up the most was these two panels. Or maybe it was the two three margaritas I downed at the restaurant down the street during lunch. So I got to thinking. What if DC did a Divas/SATC type story? You know, have some of their lead women get together to discuss their love lives. All while doing some female bonding at a spa. Oh wait. They already did. 3 and 1/3 pages from a 10 page story from JLA Giant number 2. 10:28 pm [seriousfic] [Link]	Big Barda vs. Knockout -- No, the other one Way back when, Circe turned all the men into animals, leaving only women to save/destroy the world. As you'd expect, the execution was pretty half-assed, with just a few panels dedicated to each fight between characters before they got back to a "Who's Who" entry and waited for Grant Morrison to decide what zeitgeist they fit. But hey, that doesn't mean a few panels can't be awesome... 05:40 pm [porringer] [Link]	Mr Miracle - really as awesome as you all said So, without you guys at s_d I never would have heard of Blue Beetle, or Booster Gold, or Mr Miracle, or Big Barda. I never would have been at my first ever comics' fair, looking through boxes. I wouldn't have looked at the section labelled Mr Miracle and I would have missed HOLY SHIT, YOU GUYS! THE MOTHER LODE! 50p each! I was very restrained and only bought 8 issues. 02:43 pm [perletwo] [Link]	Mr. Miracle's funeral, Justice League America #40 I had a request in an earlier JLI post I did for a page of Superman and Batman talking after Mr. Miracle's funeral. Naturally, I can't just do the one page, because the whole funeral is so awesome. Six pages of a 22-page comic, plus preview (plus a few non-comic images), not my scans. So yeah, starts out with big fight with Despero, which J'onn ends... ( but at what price? ) BTW, this seems as good a post as any to throw this out there. It didn't strike me back in the 80s because I hadn't seen the movie, but now that I've got both the first JLI trade and the Omen series box set, I'm wondering if deMatteis modeled his Max Lord on Sam Neill as the adult Damien Thorn? She also met a little girl named Sin who was going to be trained as the next Shiva. Dinah instead brought her back to the US as her daughter. 07:36 am [seriousfic] [Link]	Barda and Scott - Moving Day! This is a very special story to me. Well, not really, but it is where I got my icon from. Around the time of the Bwa-Ha-Ha League, Keith Giffen actually managed to get the greenlight on what was basically a sitcom revolving around Mr. Miracle and Big Barda, who were trying to lead a simple suburban life, complicated enormously by the fact that they were superheroes. Booster Gold and Blue Beetle stopped over, their neighbors got suspicious, there were the Robot Beatles (not robotic beetles, mind you)... fun stuff. It's not quite as good as Jack Kirby's characterizations, IMHO, but it's very hard to dislike. I mean, just look at 'em. In today's installment, our intrepid heroes (and Oberon) are moving out of the suburbs to the big city. That's right, it's Moving Day (what can I say, Giffen likes this plot). As always, disaster, flirtiness, and banter ensue. I think its one of the better cartoon adaptations .
