Living with SIN (part 2)
Previously, I posted about how Dinah went to Asia to learn to be Shiva and instead remembered who Black Canary is. She also met a little girl named Sin who was going to be trained as the next Shiva. Dinah instead brought her back to the US as her daughter. Here I post Sin's next four (and last) appearances in Birds of Prey. From #96, #98, #100, and #109.

That's what happens when you try real maple syrup. You never go back.

That last panel made me laugh and tear up at the same time, and I don't think I've read beyond an issue or two with Ted in it.

Some more Sin cuteness, cut short by the fact that this issue also introduces Misfit, and I'm sure someone someday will want to post it.

This next bit is from BoP #100. The actual story is 15 pages long and involves Dinah and Sin packing up and Dinah explaining her relationship with her mother to Sin. It's a bit complicated to post so I say just go check it out, but I included a few bits involving Dinah explaining her relationship with Ollie as that becomes very important very soon.

Cue montage of basically all of Dinah and Ollie's history up until that kiss with Marianne, with Dinah saying that Ollie hurt her badly.

Hmm, that shot about "taken in an orphan girl to boot!" reminds me that there has been a surprising lack of Mia on the new s_d. Although I wouldn't exactly describe her as an orphan girl.

And finally we get to BoP #109, after Ollie has proposed to Dinah but before she says yes. The issue is basically Babs trying to talk Dinah out of it, but there is cute Sin as well:

Big Barda vs Sin: Go!

<3

Next: Dinah considers Ollie's proposal! Ollie has no eyeballs! And Sin gets dealt with in an incredibly stupid way.

No, Sin, you've got it backwards. Dinah hits Ollie. Ollie tazes Dinah. Very different.

::reminds self to start Gypsy posts soon::

I would have loved for Sin to become Dinah's sidekick. Alas, the world hates me, and the joy that Canary Jr. would be was denied.

I mean, BC is one of the few female superhero legacies out there. It would have been great to see it expanded upon. Oh well, I guess Steph can always take up the Junior Canary mantle in DC ever wises up...

Is it just me or did/does DC have a whole bunch of young characters who could adopt legacies right now, or very soon.

A Pre-Teen/Tween Titan group

Chris Kent(upaged out of it), Damien Wayne, Sin, Lian Harper(complete with codename:Dart). Can't forget Milagro Reyes. Jai and Iris West.

That's Superman, Batman, Black Canary, the Arrow legacy, GL/BB, and the Flash.

Can anyone think of anymore?

She doesn't really exist yet but Obsidians eventual Jade II adopted daughter may be around the DCU somewhere waiting to be adopted right now. Since the last issues of Manhunter had the whole future thing 15 years later and whatnot and she looked in her mid 20's she'd probably be like 10 right now.

I don't know... but I always thought it would be an interesting idea if Robotman's niece Beth (if she hasn't been retconned from Arcudi's DP), in some future, has an accident and is made into a cyborg who goes by the name "Lady Steele".

If Milagro doesn't become a Green Latern one day something is very very wrong with the world.

Steph Brown's daughter should end up being a superhero too! She can eventually find Steph and take up the Spoiler costume.

I could be wrong but I'm not sure they ever mentioned the sex of Steph's baby, did they? She didn't even want to find out herself...

(Although in my personal fanon Tim knows exactly where the baby is and he's looking out for it until it's old enough for him to train as a potential sidekick XD)

She didn't and was quite emphatic about it, but when she was "dying" in "War Games", she asked Batman to make sure her daughter was all right.

Oh, these just leave me so sad :(

I miss the Birds. These Birds. Simone's Birds.

And I miss Dinah being, well, Dinah. Instead of that pod person replicant Dinah over in GA/BC.

I forgot about Gypsy. I liked her.

Off to pull out my BoP trades and wallow.

Aww. At least those two are probably alive again.

Barda due to whatever happened in Final Crisis. And Ted is kinda sorta maybe probably alive again in Booster Gold.

Okay, first off, did anyone else look at that scene with Sin eating the pancakes and think of that short Hellboy comic where he eats Pancakes for the first time and the demons of hell realize they've lost him forever?

Secondly; Sin teaching Barda how to play Pokemon will never not be cute.

I've never understood the American obsession with ruining perfectly good pancakes with ridiculously sickly sweet maple syrup, and yes, I've tried to "good stuff", I still don't get it. A little bacon is fine, some sausage for contrast, no problem, but not drowned in syrup.

My family was never big on pancakes, but one does not drown them in maple syrup, just enough to add maple sugary goodness. I reserve my drowning for my dad's amazing French toast. mmmm.

Also oatmeal raisin cookies with maple sugar? DELICIOUS.

In my experience most of my American friends don't use maple syrup, instead using "breakfast syrup" or whatever it's called. I'm Canadian, so using anything but maple syrup is weird and WRONG.

I'd assume that is maple syrup. Perhaps it's some artificial stuff, but it's still meant to taste like maple syrup. Although there are other varieties. Blueberry, strawberry, apple etc.

Pancakes as a breakfast food are just not a British "thing". We tend to prefer toast, or if you're having a cooked breakfast, fried bread.

As for pancakes, well they're treated as a sort of afternoon thing to have with tea. If we're going for the drop-scone approach (Which is close to the American version) then we'll have them with a little jam, or lightly buttered.

If we're looking at something thinner, like crepes then any number of things can be put in those. :)

Okay, now I'm hungry dammit!

well, I don't know how they're made in the UK, but in my experience pancakes are way to dry if they're just lightly buttered. And jellies and jams just aren't associated with pancakes.

Although I actually prefer to put a lot of butter on and melt it and only put a little syrup on them.

Speaking as an American, I've never liked having tons of maple syrup on my pancakes.

Tons of apricot syrup, on the other hand...

Maybe it's just being stuck in the Benes-era leading into Bennett (blech!), but Paulo Sequeira's really won me over here! There's just so much character to the art there, it's exactly what Birds is missing at the point I've been reading!

And this Sin/Barda is incredibly adorable, and a huge notch in Tony Bedard's column. Nicola Scott art certainly doesn't hurt!

I remember when the scans of the first comic was posted on S_D, someone commented that one day when he died, he'd also like nothing better than to have a crowd of incredibly gorgeous women erect something very tall in his memory. XD

I miss the non-McKeever BoP so much. I didn't think it could get any better until Simone took over and she had Helena join the Birds and I realized the true meaning of awesome.

Well I am planning on posting from the Black Canary miniseries with Sin, and I was toying with some Grell-era Canary-ness, and I do have the original 1992/1993 Black Canary miniseries and her own short-lived monthly...and there is bound to be a bunch of silver age stuff with her mum that someone has to share....yes, a Black Canary week is DEFINITELY possible...
