Bizarre City - Modern Fantasy/Supernatural

AVAILABLE | PREMISE | RULES | APPLY
CHARACTER DIRECTORY | FAQ

"It starts in San Francisco, a very Bizarre City...

There once was a time when magic reigned supreme and legends could be made.

Before the Age of Reason, creatures of power and fantasy roamed freely, but then
The Veil fell, blinding humanity to the Wonder of the world.

Now, in modern times, beneath the streets of the cities, a new movement has risen. The mythological beings never left the world, they remained hidden by the fear of humanity.

While agents of The Veil seek to keep humanity in the dark, those who wish to bring a new Age of Wonder about seek to make themselves known to the human world."

Bizarre City, set in modern day San Francisco, is a high fantasy scenario. The idea is that beneath the mundane mortal world we live in; there are hidden pockets of magic from the old, mythological world.

Creatures of fantasy, what are now called supernaturals, exist in the city though they remain hidden to most human eyes: elves, fae/sidhe, maybe even goblins, they’re out there. It's a fantasy set in an urban, gritty environment.

These creatures can't go exposing themselves to humanity (though some try) without repercussions. When the Age of Reason began, what supernaturals dubbed as ‘The Veil’ blinded humanity to Wonder and Magic. In order for an elf, fae/sidhe, or any other fantastic creature to reveal himself to humans, it had to be through an act of will, and the possibility of driving the human mad came as a consequence.

Not everyone believes The Veil is bad. Some enjoy the power it gives them over humanity because it allows them to pull strings from off stage and out of sight. Humanity is a violent and selfish race, keeping them ignorant to magic may be the best way to control them.

Some want The Veil lifted again, but others don't. There is a constant war between the two opposing sides. It doesn't mean they will always fight if they meet out in the open, however. The Agents only interfere when a threat to the stability of The Veil presents itself.

With that said, you can play out nearly any plot imaginable. Yet, keep in mind a character can't walk through the streets flashing around their true magical self without someone taking notice and the consequences resulting in potential insanity for a passerby human, but may well even involve a character death!

We're looking for Original Characters only. The guidelines are for the most part pretty flexible and if you want to play a race not listed, just give us a shout on the journals or AIM Chyleiah or TheMelisande. What we're going for is a friendly modern-day fantasy RP that is fairly freeform and not over-modded, and where no open thread remains open. If you want to play with active, experienced RPers, we can give you that from the start.

Most Wanted:
Kaylee Moreau, Evil Magic User, Aegis Members, Haskel Coven Members, Fae Court Members.

Catch-22: Arkham City

Arkham City: a controversial supermax prison for the patients and inmates of the original Arkham Asylum, and Blackgate Prison. Why is there controversy?

This project is led by the enigmatic Professor Hugo Strange. His goal: to divide Gotham City into two. The law-abiding citizens, and the criminals.

To the citizens of Gotham City, this Professor Strange was previously unheard of. Who, exactly, is he? Where has he come from? And just how was he able to convince Mayor Quincy of Gotham City into accepting this immense project?

Professor Strange was not alone, however. Accompanying his project was TYGER; an elite special forces unit, trained especially for the Arkham City project. Their purpose is to serve as the prison's correctional officers and guards, enforcing Professor Strange's regulations.

There are no definite requirements for a Gothamite to be incarcerated in Arkham City. Rumour is, that petty thugs, drug-dealers and mob bosses are not the only ones eligible for a prison sentence. If the Professor simply doesn't like you, you are qualified enough.

Prisoners are unceremoniously thrown into this walled-off region of Gotham, and are left to fend for themselves. Food crates are regularly deposited in certain districts and at specific times throughout each day, but it's up to the inmates themselves as to how it is distributed. Ordinary, everyday commodities have become treasures, and many are prepared to do what it takes to secure such valuables.
Many gangs roam the streets, and viciously guard their turf from one another. There are only a handful of regulations to comply with, and if not adhered to, the consequences are... deadly.

One thing is for certain, in this squalid sector.

Escape is impossible.

For many generations, Durmstrang Institute has been a safe haven for all of those who hold strong to the ideal that the wizarding blood must be kept as pure as possible, for no other way can they possibly keep the magic strong. However, times change. And while the countries who send their children off to Durmstrang are many, and their Pureblood number far greater than the United Kingdom can boast, it does not mean that they have gone unscathed. Where thePureblood families of the UK are all but whipped out by infertility and death, those of Eastern Europe are only just now beginning to show the depleting signs.

Thankfully, depending on your stance, the Headmaster of Durmstrang has seen fit to introduce the new generations to a much more progressive way of thinking. Durmstrang is no longer a safe haven of Purist beliefs. Headmaster for fourteen years, Ivanov is now in a firm position and has opened Durmstrang to not just Purebloods and Halfbloods, but Muggleborn as well. With the addition of a vast number of new students, there is also new curriculum and a much larger campus to meet the new demands.

However, not nearly everyone is happy. His position may be saved by his politically unaligned seat of power on the Isle Durmstrang sits on, but he is determined to meet each obstacle head on, for the sake of his students, and the future he is hoping to usher in despite the staunch hold Tradition has on the wizarding populace of Eastern Europe.

Where will you stand?

We Are At War: A HP Second War Game

It's the summer of 1998. A few months ago, in June, Harry Potter competed as the Hogwarts Champion in the Triwizards Tournament. But the final task was a trap, one designed to take him straight into the clutches of Lord Voldemort. Harry escaped, but at the cost of Albus Dumbledore's life.

Now, as Death Eater activity slowly rises, the country is on the brink of war. The Order of the Phoenix has reformed, but the Ministry and most of the citizens refuse to listen to them. They prefer to pretend like everything is alright. They're not quite sure what happened to Harry Potter in that maze, but they're very convinced that it was You Know Who. After all, most still remember the First Wizarding War, and no one can fathom trying to live through a second one.

We Are At War is a slight AU game that takes the events of the Second Wizarding War and delays them three years.

We fear nothing and we will stop for nothing, because we have the power of justice and truth on our side. Those who cling futility to the coattails of a mad king can burn with him. Those who join us will see a world of peace and prosperity such as has never been known before.

Do you have the courage to make a better world?

Age of Kings: AU Harry Potter RPG

Evening Edition, January 20, 2000
Brighton Bombing Blamed on Brotherhood
BRIGHTON - An explosion that rocked the Brighton Pier last Saturday and killed 8 people is being blamed on the Brotherhood.

This domestic terrorist group that formed about two years ago is now thought to be responsible for over a dozen acts of violence and terror and the deaths of almost 30 people. It's known members include both wizards and muggles intent on ending the Crown power. Over the years they have attacked numerous targets, including several prominent businessmen for what they claim to be 'muggle persecution.'

Authorities tentatively place the blame for this new bombing on the Brotherhood, despite a lack of hard evidence. The explosive used was not magical in origin, pointing to a muggle manufacturer. However, the Brotherhood has not come forward to claim credit for the attack as they have done in the past.
Cygnus Black, Duke of Cambridge, issued a statement this morning on behalf of the Crown. "His Majesty's government has no intention of bowing down to these cowardly and unjust attacks on our country. We must all stand proud in the face of those who would see our very way of life be torn down in fire and blood." He went on to say that the Aurors and police have stepped up their efforts to find and put an end to future attacks.

Michael Shmidt, a political correspondence adviser, warns that this might be a sign of martial law soon to come. "There's very little the Duke or anyone else can promise that won't put a pinch on our civil liberties." Shmidt warns that measures such as a curfew or invasive inspections might be right around the corner.

Age of Kings is an AU royals-based Harry Potter game in which wizards live openly and subjugate muggles. Political tensions, a controversy over the next king, and a violently unstable society form a counterpoint for social shenanigans, character drama, and and intense gaming experience.
