DAY 347 : Haunted Hotel Mingle

[You have a lot of baggage for your stay. Not the kind you stuff free robes and toiletries into. No, the kind of baggage that helps drive the sort of scenarios you experience. Your fears and your hang ups. Or maybe not everything is about you after all and you have a perfectly random, horrific time. Either way, the adventure starts now. Ring the bell for service.]

[If she had know she would have involved him, not tried to do everything herself. She's a big believe in teamwork. But all she knew was that there was someone who needed to be protected, and that's a mission she will fulfill for anyone at any cost now. The exposed robotic joints at her shoulders and hips are slowly starting to cool, no longer red hot metal but still hissing and steaming angrily. She smiles up at him all the same.]

You're alright. I protected you. Thank goodness.

[Even for someone not as good at reading people the implications in the way she says that are obvious. There was someone else she didn't protect, once.]

Yeah... yeah, I'm fine. I'm just fine.

[ Oh, he understands what she's implying. Understands it better than she might realize, not because he's a profiler trained to read the things that people aren't spelling out, but rather because he's been in that very situation a few times too many. One particular not long ago, the biggest heartbreak that doesn't seem to know when to stop.

This isn't the time for all that, though. He's a bit at a loss on how to proceed what with the steam coming off her. ]

What can I do?

I will be fine momentarily. Orgia mode disables my internal limiters, and I have increased speed and strength but overheat quickly. It is something of a gamble in combat situations. [It really only works if she has a team to back her up or if it's an enemy she knows she can take down fast, like this one. Otherwise she becomes useless fast.]

Are you alright? Did that thing injure you at all?

[ Well. Okay then. He'll just... sit here and wait and hope nothing more is lurking up here. ]

I'm fine. It just scared me, but I'm fine. [ A little sore but hey, no damage done. ] Thank you.

[She stands up a little wobbly, looking over at where she slammed the thing into the wal hard enough to leave a dent.] You are welcome. I am sorry I wasn't more use, and that I convinced you to come here where it is so dangerous.

[ He gets up when she does, lingering close just in case she loses her balance. ]

Hey, you don't have to apologize for that. At least neither of us went up here alone.

[ He probably would've gone up here either way, had he been able to. ]

It's very nice of you to say that. Thank you. [Fully recovered again and ready to fight if needed. Orgia mode wouldn't be much use if it kept her out of combat for too long.] How did you stay so calm? I think I would have been frightened of that thing had grabbed me instead.

I wasn't calm. I'm just good at pretending like I am. [ Most of the time. ] It wasn't my first time... well, I don't exactly get grabbed by ghosts or whatever that was on the regular, but I'm a criminal profiler.

It's not uncommon for me to end up as a hostage.

Oh, I see. You are like a police officer? [She starts poking around the room, looking behind boxes and piles of junk.]

Something like that. I work with serial killers, mostly... I'm a Federal Agent, if there's a threat across state lines they call in my team.

[She laughs unexpectedly, the sound brightening up the room.] I cannot think of a job I would be worse at. I am not good at understanding people. I do not think I would be able to react to anyone as hard to read as a serial killer.

I'm sure it's not that bad. [ He smiles, wryly. ] I mean, sure, you need to be good at reading people to do the job but sometimes what we need is a fresh, analytical look at the material. You can't get too emotional, I guess.
