mandalus :: the city of fates.

[ Hello Mandalus. Ready for another shaky video feed? Because that is precisely what you're getting.

It's Nate, clutching his phone as he sprints. There's commotion around him. Coughing or grunts. Noise and dust and debris, and he skids as he barely avoids a falling wall from the remainder of the building he was expected to 'lay low' in. ] Oh God.

[ He slows to a jog, and raises his device. His breath is laboured from the run, eyes wide and searching as he looks at the mess around him. The bodies, the injured. The shrill of panic is ringing in his ears, his voice, but he's talking anyway. ]

The Serpent - that's what this place wants us to stop? A giant snake that shoots balls of - of - whatever the hell that was?

[ He stops. Takes short breath and moves forward as he tries to mute everything about his surroundings out.There's a beat, something's cracking and it's the pavement that gives out from under him, and he's sent flying down into the Underground. ]

Crap! [ There's a crash, a yelp, and the feed cuts. ]

[ It turns on a little later, and it shows Nate's smudged face, and a deep cut across his cheek. He's obviously further into the Underground now, as the hole that opened up and swallowed him was no where in the sight. He's giving a small frown that tries to hide a wince as he limps onwards. ]

Ugh. So. [ Alright, he's stopping. The blinding panic is mostly gone, in part due to the rush of adrenaline from earlier. But he's getting a bit edgy now, considering he's well. Lost. ] Anyone have a map of this Underground? Or something? I guess I must've taken a few wrong turns, and it doesn't look like they've heard of posting signs [ None that he can see. He passed by some strange engraving, but. That's it. ]

[ And that's as much as he's willing to admit. Not that he needs help no, heaven forbid. For a kid, his ego is far too big. ]

[ the device is turned crudely on, with a clatter as it hits the ground, pans to have perfect view of the sky, and the ledge above it, before the head of a boy - ruffled ash brown hair, and a few scratches on his cheek - is appearing to stare down at it. ]

Oh crap! [ a phrase no doubt used too much by him, he's stretching his arm in an attempt to reach it, but falls short. ] Damn it.

[ he's disappearing again for a moment, and the next thing the video shows is him vaulting off the ledge, hanging before dropping over to the niche his device landed on; it's clear he's done this before, even though his motions are a bit unrefined. then it shifts, and you get a crooked view of the Venetian district, and then a very particular Villa. it moves again, you hear a few grunts as the fifteen year old climbs back to the roof. ] Woah.

[ it's only after that, after he's standing and looking over at the view, does he actually turn his attention to his phone. this is all ridiculous to him - the whole idea of this place - and the only thing that stands out, and overshadows his undoubtable unease, is his excitement ( because that's easier to deal with that anxiety or doubt or fear).

he's shooting the feed a crooked, typical 'nathan-drake' grin. ] Look at the size of this. And none of it makes sense. This building is at least 14th century Italian, but then you've got - those. [ whatever they were; made of glass, and too modern to be seen by him yet. ] What's up with this place? Anyone actually know how old it is? [ a beat. ] - Guess it beats being in Cartagena.

Oh! Ugh - Sully? Did you get dragged out here too? [ clearly, that entire 'saving this mandalus' nonsense wasn't something he was going to be addressing. now anyway.

with that final question - and the smallest sound of hope, he's turning the feed off. ]
