[When the rift opened and Mandalus was flooded with people, the city was damaged, of course. Peter had been out there, in costume, trying to help as many people as he possibly could. It was difficult to rescue the people trapped and in danger, but he was doing his best. Firing up his phone to make a broadcast, sure plenty of people were out there already, he knew they needed to get the few people left trapped out and safe.]
Hey, guys, anyone, we've got trouble down by this big rift thing that opened up. It took out a few buildings and people are trapped. Any help would be great, okay? [He kept the phone in his hand as he moved in, trying to get a few more people safe. He hadn't expected the building that came down to come down so quickly. The footage blurred as he rolled out of the way quickly, only managing to snatch out one woman as he escaped danger.
He couldn't save them and it shook him so hard he felt like he was going to throw up, seeing them vanish away under the rubble, crushed by it, their screams clipped off so suddenly it left ringing in his ears unlike anything he'd heard.]
No!! [Spider-Man lurched forward, leaving the woman on the ground, his phone dropped beside her, propped against debris. He tried digging through the rubble but there was no response. They were dead.
He wondered, often, why he never could save everyone. He failed at this whole "hero" thing, and no matter how many people he did save, it was never enough. He was never good. Backing away from it, tears streaking his face under his mask, hidden from view, Peter crouched down to the woman, grabbing the phone to shut it off.]
